This is one of those toys that I absolutely wish existed when I was a kid. It is remarkable how good it is at actually doing proper magnification - it seems like it's even better than the traditional microscopes we used at school in the 90s, without the annoyance of using eyepieces. Having a giant screen instead makes it so that you can more easily adjust everything, and also lets multiple people see the image at once, and when your kid wants to show you something cool, that's a necessity. Honestly, if I had something like this growing up, where I could just use it in a "lab" setting or take it outside, I might have become a proper scientist. This microscope is basically ready to go as son as you take it out of the box. I generally think the handheld mode allows for much more freedom and creativity, as a child is going to want to look at the fibers on their jeans, or their skin, or something that you can't just take a sample of easily. Being able to remove it from the base makes this thing much more versatile than it otherwise would be. However, having the base also adds something to it. In addition to feeling more "official", being able to clips things down makes it easier to review the same item, move the whole thing, and then look at that same item or spot again. And the included sample slides are very cool. They're mostly insect parts, which some kids may see as a bit macabre, but it may also give them an appreciation of all the intricate elements that exist in the unseen parts of our world. If there's one thing that's a bit of a drawback on this microscope compared to other, similar handheld microscopes, it's the focus capability. The wheel on the "stem" of the microscope adjusts the magnification, which is, to be clear, a useful feature, but if the view at a certain magnification is not clear, there seemingly is nothing I can do to fix it other than move to a different magnification. This isn't the biggest issue in the world (not enough to take a star off), but it is something to note. Even so, if you have a kid that's interested in seeing the world in a new way and learning, this is a great option. This can do most anything a microscope could do when I was growing up, but better and for cheaper.

Fun for hours and hours. You can n pick up anything and examine it under the microscope. It brings everyone together to enjoy and see what you can seem it comes with so many things to make this fun and educational. The light is bright and looking at the magnification you can see all depths of what your looking at. The functionality of this is amazing and really is fun. The look is stunning and the quality is strong and well crafted. The price of this is beyond fair and a perfect gift for anyone really. Highly recommend this product.

Oh my goodness! I was so happy to see the quality of the magnificent this little device puts out. There’s so many fun features included, from simple magnifying, it also takes pictures and videos and you can connect it to a laptop for viewing images. The feature of being able to turn the light to 3 different levels and makes the HD Color Screen even better! Glass slides and a dropper, 4 cell small containers for holding specimens, a Petri dish all make for great fun for kids and adults alike.
