  • Really good camera. Detailed pictures and smooth video. Really good camera. Detailed pictures and smooth video.
So, the camera came with a big box. The package includes a thermal camera, a soft case, an adapter USB Type C to Micro USB and an User Manual. My smartphone has no USB Type C, so I use the camera with adapter and it works fine. I can also flip camera over and make selfie. In user manual and on back side of camera you find QR Link, which sends you to "Hti Image" App for android devices. There is no software for iOS. Enclosure of camera seems like plastic, but it is aluminium. The camera has a big 13mm lens. Many other thermal cameras have only 6-9mm lenses, but the bigger lens is the more infrared radiation pass through and the better quality of image. If you rotate lens, you can adjust focus. Minimum focus distance is about 15cm. Quality of images and video is very good. I was impressed. The pictures are cleary and not noisy. Video is really smooth and detailed. 25Hz and image sensor with 384x288 resolution make good work. Unfortunately all photos and videos will be storaged in internal phone's memory, there is no "SD Card" option. If your video recording is longer than 3 minutes, it will be splitted in parts. Sometimes video freezes for one second, because image sensor makes recalibration with shutter. I just make manual recalibration before I start video recording, so I have no problems with freeze moments. I used "Hti Image" and "Therm Viewer" Apps. Both work O.K. "Therm Viewer" can record video with or without sound, and "Hti Image" only without sound. "Hti Image" has 6 types of color pallets. "Therm Viewer" has a bit more, there are some interesting pallets, but im my opinion "Hti Image" pallets looks better. "Hti Image" has two temperature ranges: -20°C ~ 120°C and -20°C ~ 400°C but can measure temperature up to 600-650°C. To choose high temperature range, you need first activate one of temperature measurements, otherwise software will be crashed. I made some tests with ice water and boiled water and I can say, that temperature measurement is correct, but don't forget to set right distance and other settings in software menu. I made some photos and video, but amazon has compressed my video. Original video looks much better. In conclusion, I would say, that I'm satisfied with this thermal camera and can recommend it. ... show more

  • Great buy, minor issues Great buy, minor issues
For the price (US $787), this is the best IR camera out there if you have Android. (Sorry, no iOS.) I'm using this for building evaluations and it works for me without a hitch on Android 9 (LG V35) with Hti's app. Like others mention, the aluminum chassis feels surprisingly solid. Performance is very quick on screen, no hesitation. It's the best resolution (384x288) in this class and 25 frames/second for video is movie quality. I can produce crisp, clear IR images with plenty of resolution to see air movement, siding fasteners, and lots of other interesting and useful details. The tiny carrying case is a nice capsule lined with high density foam that includes a soft rubber lens cover. One oddity is the noticeable mechanical clicking sound the camera makes every 20-40 seconds or so that freezes the output for a second, but it doesn't affect the operational effectiveness for me. The Hti app autorecognizes the unit when plugged in. I find the app very stable and it hasn't crashed for me once in hours of use over every available option. Snapshots and videos seamlessly end up in Google Photos. All the options and settings are intuitive and useful. Another third part app advertised, "ThermViewer", works with this camera, but I find it buggy, slow, and doesn't list that it costs $35 after 72 hours of use, which is a non-starter for me. Frankly, that app's only advantage is the thermographic scale displayed down the side of an image, which the Hti app can't do. But Hti's app can display high-center-low crosshairs as well as several other points touched anywhere on the screen, which is possibly even more useful. Hti has six good IR color schemes. I find the "Ironbow" the most intuitive, high contrast, and easily converted to conventional white-black thermographic image. There are a few small detractions for me, barely problematic enough to lower the rating to 4-stars and symptomatic of being a lower cost unit: 1) The aluminum lens cylinder is focused by simply by twisting it into and out of the aluminum chassis, metal on metal. The threads are course and loose fitting. It is so loose that focus is difficult to set and relaxes just touching the lens. You have to gently twist and carefully let go to keep focus. Fortunately, the image is very crisp so this is obvious, but I have to re-focus every shot. 2) I measure the field of view (FOV) at only 28° wide. The other Hti cameras report 35° and 56°, so I figured this would be at least as wide. But you have to step back pretty far to get an entire building facade in view, although the high resolution allows a lot of data capture in a small focused area. 3) The software does not provide image-over-IR type blending like other (FLIR) apps. To get the same effect, you'll have to switch to the camera app, take a picture, and then overlay it with the IR image in 3rd party photo editing software. One Hti app option allows a camera picture-in-picture to be included, but it is too large and occludes quite a bit of IR screen data. Certain reporting standards require some sort of real vision camera shot overlaid or adjacent to an IR image for reference, so this software limitation adds an extra 15 seconds per shot and you can't forget or the IR image can't be used in the report. 4) When changing to another app (camera) the IR selection window setting is lost. I use the three-point to record high-center-low temperatures and crosshair locations, but switching to the phone camera for a reference shot looses the crosshairs. This is a big deal when out on site and you forget to record temperature data on a few critical time-sensitive shots but don't realize it until you are back in the office. Again, I'm using this semi-professionally, so this wouldn't be a worry for casual use. 5) Hti's app does not provide an option to hold the color scale to a constant range. Each shot uses a relative color range. (Pink might mean 78°F in one shot but 52°F in another.) Pro cameras use this feature to visually compare shots or merge multiple IR images into single larger one. 6) Data is captured only as an image, unlike more advanced pro IR cameras that convey the recorded IR data at each pixel for measurement later. This is a minor concern for a unit in this price unit, but a pro will need more. In summary, it's a great little camera for the price point, useful for casual and non-pro thermography use. ... show more

  • Unbelievable Value That Largely Outperforms Competitors.
This camera provides amazing value that rivals anything even remotely close in price. I've messed around with many thermal cameras for paranormal investigation, and this takes the cake. Once the lens is in focus, the image is super crisp, even in low light, the color palettes are excellent, and this device doesn't drain your battery as much as some other phone thermals do. Another thing worth mentioning, this device doesn't auto calibrate every few seconds either, which is nice. The main selling point for me is the 24Hz refresh rate. Most cameras that aren't several thousand dollars are limited to 9Hz. The thermal resolution is also something that you only see in super expensive cameras. The 384x288 resolution outshines the FLIR One Pro (160x120) and the Seek Thermal Compact Pro (320x240) and has more than double FPS. This camera also outperforms the handheld cameras in a similar price range (FLIR C3, Seek Shot Pro, etc.) and even the FLIR E8 which is $3,000. If there are any cons to this device, I would have to say the lack of temperature/color scale is a little unfortunate, along with the lack of any sort of zoom function. I've also noticed that if you record video, it breaks the clips up into 3 minute segments in your gallery. That's not a huge deal, I'm just being a little nitpicky. The bottom line is simple, if you want to find a similar camera that's handheld with the similar specifications, you're going to be spending anywhere from $5,000-$10,000+ (FLIR E85 as example). I just can't say enough about the value. I recommend this camera 100% for someone in need of a good thermal camera for any purpose. I'm also attaching a video to show off this camera at night time outside. ... show more

  • This is the real deal, worth every penny This is the real deal, worth every penny
I have several thermal cameras, this is the highest performance for the cost I've ever seen. It may even beat the significantly more expensive FLIR Boson320 on resolution and thermal sensitivity. This camera is excellent for outdoor wildlife use, you can actually see the area in detail rather than just detecting hot things. #### Pictures The pictures I've included in this review were taken at night time in a rural area with the black-hot palette. Take a look at the wooden fence, you can see where the support boards are behind the fence because they are perhaps 1-2deg warmer, and they are keeping that part of the front of the fence very slightly warmer than the rest. None of my other cameras could see that, and there would be a significant amount of noise even if they could. Same for the barn, you can see where the support boards are behind the metal. #### Video I have this camera mounted on an OpenHD drone now and plan to use it for monitoring wildlife (deer and coyotes). I've included a test flight video where several cars drive by, and I panned around looking at the nearby woods and structures. If you see the green bar at the top it's "telemetry" information from the camera, it's designed to work like a webcam (no special driver) but they include extra information in the frames, and I have not excluded it yet. #### Technical details The noise level on this camera is very low, even when the shutter does a flat field correction it isn't a dramatic difference because the sensor is a 17um array to begin with. And there is a relatively large germanium lens on this camera, which makes a significant difference compared to other cameras with silicon or chalcogenide lenses. This is a big part of the reason you can see such small temperature differences in the example pictures and video, and why this camera is a very high end sensor relative to some of the other smartphone thermal cameras you can find for sale. Use the ThermViewer app if you want this camera to work well on Android, it does post processing of the video coming from the camera, which looks like it has a sharpening effect applied to it in the camera itself. You can also use the "USB Camera" app for simple testing, you will be able to see the sharpening there. ... show more

  • When it works, great. No support when it fails.
I bought the HT-301 a little over 2 years ago. It is now past its claimed 24 month warranty and it failed one week after the warranty expired! Talk about planned obsolescence! One fine day, I plugged it into my LG smartphone and it briefly came up as usual and then the screen froze. Tried plugging in several times, restarted app etc. but nothing. So now, the unit is as dead as a dodo and doesn't work. I tried installing the app on a different Android phone and it wouldn't talk to it either. I thought I could at least get it repaired under my credit card extended warranty but there's no hard warranty with the unit/manual except for the blurb on the Amazon store. So, my credit card company is stalling on any refunds/repair costs. Here's their statement -- "WARRANTY: We offer hassle-free after-sale services: 60-Day money back guarantee, 24 month warranty, Lifetime technical supports. We won't let our customer waste their money." So, above is not worth the paper its printed on? which I don't have anyway! So, I wrote an email to the address in the package and I got a response as: "Thanks . we checked your order. as we said, the warranty is 2 years ,but we found your camera was just out of the warranty. you may ship it back to repair,if the IR sensor is problem. you need to pay 200 usd to repair or we send a lik-new one to you . what do you think? " So, I replied asking them to clarify their statement. I think what they mean is that if it's a sensor problem, it would be fixed for $200. I assume anything above that, they would send me a "like-new" unit. I also asked them to send me a written official warranty so I could deal with with my credit card company which would pay me for the repairs. I haven't heard back XT Instruments for more than a week. So, I am stuck with a non-working unit, no support and no means to repair it. So, if you are smart, unlike me, you would insist upon a written warranty and/or get a secondary warranty to extend the original. I'll take down/modify this review if anyone from that company reaches out to me and helps to resolve this issue. Great product when it works, but overall rating is a 1 star for the lack of support, specious warranty and gas lighting me. If it were a $100 item, I wouldn't be too upset, but this is a significant chunk of change and they are not standing behind their product or matching their online statements (quoted above). ... show more

  • Exceeded my expectations. Pros & Cons in description
I wanted a thermal camera for security reasons, as I live in a wooded area and all the IR sensors in my property continue to go off at odd hours of the night due to critters, so it gets me out of bed every night with a flashlight and weapon ready to roam the cold night, so I wanted a thermal camera that could help me find and identify any animal within 100 yards and differentiate between a stray cat or a human. This thermal camera delivers, and then some. Pros: For this resolution, this camera is thousands of dollars cheaper than the competition, I can easily make out a person at 100 yards, maybe even at 120 yards. The small form factor is very easy to transport, and also, since any system recognizes this as a USB camera, you can mount it on a drone (it's very light!). Doesn't need an internal battery, so there should be nothing there to degrade over the years. It uses almost no battery, I ran it from my phone for hours and the battery drain was no different from using my phone without the camera. The great refresh rate makes moving objects (or me not holding the camera steady) a non issue. Somewhat small FOV (this is a pro for me, not for all) this is perfect for looking at things that are somewhat far away without sacrificing much resolution. You can still use it for close-up things, but you need to be at least 1 to 2 feet away. The convenient carrying case is small but very protective, you can easily throw this $760 thing in your pocket with zero concerns. Great temperature sensitivity, I could detect the nails in my roof heating up the wood, I could see the coils in my chest freezer and the veins in my hand. Lens cover and USB C to Mini come included. Starts working immediately after being plugged in. Looks solid and well built, I wouldn't get it wet or throw it in the dust, but as long as I care for it it looks like it should last a long time. Cons: If you have a case on your phone, the USB C connector may not fit, you'll need an extension. I read that it only works with android, I don't remember seeing an apple app so I think that's true. Manual focus, if you need to adjust the focus constantly it can become inconvenient, but it still costs thousands less than others with autofocus, so I don't mind. The app is fine, but I worry about what could happen if the manufacturer stops supporting it and with all the upgrades in android and in phones, the cam may stop working one day? Then again, it's recognized as a webcam and I understand that there are third-party programs that support this camera as is, so perhaps that's a non-issue. Overall I've only used this for a few hours and I'm more than happy with it. I'll try to mount it in a gimbal and later see if I can mount it in a drone (the main issue with that is the rigidity of the USB cable interfering with the movements of the gimbal). But even if I have to use it by hand, it's already a win for me. ... show more

  • Exceptional picture quality, video recording, minor flaws Exceptional picture quality, video recording, minor flaws
In the past couple months I've purchased several different kinds of thermal imagers. I first bought the FLIR TG165, then TG267. While both great thermal imagers for the price, they lacked the thermal resolution I was hoping for. I then purchased the HT-19, it's thermal resolution was beyond what the FLIRs offered, but I wasn't satisfied with the build quality and buttons. I almost purchased the FLIR E8-XT, which has the same thermal resolution as the HT-19, but many more options, and having owned two FLIRs before I knew the build quality was top notch. The price ($3k) kept me looking for something else, and I'm glad I didn't buy the E8... This thermal imager is much better than I expected. The thermal resolution is outstanding. Compared to the handheld imagers slow refresh rate (~9 hz), this is levels above, enough to record video seamlessly. The menu options are easy to access and view. I have a Galaxy S10, Android 10, so you have to download the HTI Thermal app apk from their website. It was all in English and easy to do. They provide a QR code to scan which takes you directly there, download then install, done. Every time I plug in the HT-301 it auto detects and opens the app, which is very quick. I did have a few problems at the start with the app crashing, but it hasn't done it again since. There are some negatives with the HT-301, but all very minor when you consider everything else. One downside is the "Thermography Settings" in the app. Even if you change to deg F in the main settings area, all the settings with thermography remain in metric, deg C. Another negative is there is no zoom (in/out), and sometimes I wish I could have a wider FOV for closer objects. The focus on the imager isn't very secure, it has some feedback/resistance which is good when focusing at longer distance, but shorter distance is loose and will unscrew off if you turn it too much. Overall it's a great buy for the price and quality. ... show more

  • SURPRISING QUALITY FOR PRICE
This product provides Thermographic images that far surpass cameras I have used that cost 5 to 10, even 20 times as much. I have to say, it looks cheap. It feels cheap, meaning the focal adjustment feels loose, and is over- sensitive, the size is so small it looks deceiving toy-like and fragile. There's no telling how this camera will hold up over time. But the quality and sensitivity of the infra- red readings is stunning! There is no interpretive software & no way to access any data detail to back up the images, but for our use shooting exteriors of buildings, this is a fabulous tool. ... show more
