The base is NOT suction is IT a magnet so I am not sure it will work for my original purpose of a sewing light... but as cute and bright as it is... and super priced... I bought 2 of them.... This compact LED gooseneck lamp has quickly become one of my favorite sewing accessories. It puts out a bright, clear light that lets me see every stitch, even when working with dark fabrics, narrow hems, or tiny details. The gooseneck is easy to adjust and actually stays where I put it (my machine has a steel body), so I’m not fighting with a droopy lamp mid-project. The suction base holds tight to steel surfaces and keeps the light steady while I sew. I appreciate the full-size AC cord, which feels a lot sturdier than the USB cords some other craft lights use. It’s simple, reliable, and works great, not just for sewing, but also on my craft table when I’m doing beadwork or anything that needs good light. I don't make a habit of sewing in the dark, but just to show how bright it is, the last 3 photos were taken at night with no flash and all other lights in the room turned off; the only light was being produced by this lamp. As a supplemental lamp with normal lights on, it's absolutely fantastic. For the price, this little lamp punches well above its weight. This is a nice little light, but it is NOT a "strong suction" base as the listing describes! The base is magnetic, so it will only stick to steel surfaces. The mag-base does seem to work good when on a steel surface though. I'm still happy with it so far even though it wasn't what I expected. It won't work for my sewing machine, because the entire machine case is plastic. I think this will make a nice inexpensive light for my drill press though, or maybe even when working on a car. I can "stick it anywhere" on a car and position the flexible neck to hold the light right where I need it. Note: the "protective silicone" does not cover the magnet, so it may scratch paint. I added a layer of tape on the bottom to fix this. I like that it has a toggle switch on the base instead of an in-line switch like many other lights like this have. The warning label here leaves a bit to the imagination... but I was able to figure out what it means, so I guess that's ok. ... show more
