    • great for small jobs
I have been using another brand electric chainsaw for about 2 years now and have enjoyed the convenience for small jobs. The original saw I've been using is quite heavy though so when I saw this I wanted to try it because it looked even lighter. I comes in a nice case. Once I opened the case I realized that it had been previously opened and the contents where everywhere. Nothing was used but just a mess. Chains out of the packages and the 3 different size bars where sliding around. Besides all the mess, this electric chainsaw is much lighter than the one I have been using. I put it to use right away. This does not come with a battery, which is stated in the description My dewalt batteries fit and worked perfectly! Adding oil was simple and mess free. I used it around the yard with no issues. Obviously small jobs. This is not a gas powered chainsaw so I couldn't expect the same power. Today we had a large snow storm and some huge pine tree branches were weighed down badly over the driveway which would badly scratch vehicles. This little machine powered through branches for over an hour in the snow. I really have no complaints performance wise and really respect this little machine. I dried it all off before storing away for the next job. I recommend this for around the home small jobs. Don't expect it to match the power of your gas powered machine. This will handle small jobs with no issues. I like how lightweight this is and how easy it is to change out the bars and chains. ... show more

    • Small and not very powerful
I ordered this electric chainsaw, knowing that it is not a true Dewalt product. Although it can use the Dewalt batteries just fine. I put on the 12 inch bar and chain and tried to cut a few branches and a little firewood to test it out. This unit is OK for a very small wood logs. When I tried to use the saw on anything bigger than two or 3 inches thick, it would bog down and not be able to finish the job. I tried also using the other bar and chain options and can see a little improvement, but it still takes far longer than firing up my gas chainsaw. I also know that using the larger Batteries might work better, but I don’t have any of those. All in all this is a OK tool but not for heavy duty work. The saw is small and compact, it’s easy to put oil in, and pretty easy to change bars and chains as needed. ... show more

    • I think this is OK, but...
...I can't actually test it, because I haven't gotten hold of the right battery for it. As a reviewer, I test what I'm provided. No battery came with this product. I'm a little concerned that the chain-bar is so narrow. Chainsaws require a certain amount of chain-tension to cut effectively without chain whip. But, tension causes friction between the chain and the chain-bar. Frequent oiling can decrease friction, but not eliminate it. That friction is greater if the radius of the outer end of the chain-bar is smaller, i.e. the chain-bar is narrower. Friction eats battery power and decreases saw cutting ability, and eventually results in chain and chain-bar wear. The chain-bar on this saw is *very* narrow. This saw comes with three lengths of chain-bar, and different length chains for each. I wonder what percentage of users, likely having obtained this saw because it has a convenient 12 inch bar even though its actual cutting capacity is not much greater than other battery powered saws, actually install any bar other than the 12 inch one...? An oddity of this product is that it arrives packed in what at first seems like a convenient fitted tool-case...but, upon assembling the saw with anything other than the shortest (6 inch) bar, one realizes that the saw no longer fits into the tool-case. So, for most users, the tool-case likely is useless, and the cost of that element of the product was wasted. I hope eventually a battery for this saw will be available to reviewers. If that happens, I'll revisit this review and report on testing results. ... show more

I have used the 21V imported chainsaws that includes thier own batteries, and this is a much better tool. It's not a Dewalt quality but is pretty close, and the 60v battery will fit the tool. The trigger is Off/On, you can't feather the speed like a gas saw, however it has a 2 second ramp up to get too full speed. This is probably to help protect the tool and prevent injury. The bar and chain assembly is quick and easy, the quick tensioner works. The tool is light and easy to handle. The chain oiler works and it turns the saw and operator into an oily mess in true chainsaw fashion. It includes a small brush to help clean chips and sawdust out of the working parts. Instructions are So-So, they use terms that are odd for a knowledgeable chainsaw user. It's not ideal for dead dry wood, but it cuts green wood like a champ. The chains are rather tiny though for any heavy use. I had good results trimming cedar evergreen trees and elms, it only struggled on the old dead stuff. I was very careful to not let the bar or chain get pinched in the kerf. This chainsaw would be ideal for taking up into the canopy of trees, or getting into dense shrubs and thinning. I think it's a decent tool for the money and would recommend it to someone who already has a Dewalt battery powerd tool collection. I Hope My Review And Pictures Were Helpful To You!! ... show more

    • Very small and light
This is a very small chainsaw. I knew it would be but this is so small it's easily operable with one hand (but don't). After reading the instructions and putting it together, including adding the not included oil, I tested it on some dead branches on my property. I was using the smaller chain size and it cut right through them. I tested on a thick branch and every now and then it would get hung up, but not often enough to be annoying or cause problems. This thing is powerful but not as much as a gas powered chainsaw, which should be expected. I prefer using this now over a gas powered because I always have 20v dewalt batteries charged up, whereas I have to drive into town to fill up gas tanks for the gas powered one. 5 stars and I highly recommend it. ... show more
