  • Good for light duty work, limbs and small trees
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
Good. Light and easy to use. Light to moderate power. Some say oil leaks, not uncommon for any chainsaw, but one solution is to simply store it on it's side so the oil fill cap is up at the top. I wish it had more power, but it's okay for limbs and small trees. Best with high capacity batteries. DeWalt should make a bigger saw with two battery slots. That would be a game changer. ... show more

  • Good stuff
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
This is a really good reliable chainsaw. You just had to have a few batteries on back up, but I’ve used it for hours on end with no problem. Just now I had to replace the bar. That’s so much. I’ve used it. Lightweight and does a good job.

  • Much improved over the DeWalt 16" I bought in 2019
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
First of all, I am still using the dccs670x1 that I bought in 2019. My favorite chainsaw ever! The issues with the sprocket cover / bar locking knob assembly have since been corrected. I was willing to put up with the problems reported on Sept 9, 2018, by a justifiably irate customer. He was spot on. I just adapted my behavior to this situation. Two worn out bars and how many chains later, I'm still using the 16" flex volt version. I'm trying to get a question about the interchangeability of the bar locking knob answered. It looks like it might be possible. I'm going to just see pretty soon. If there is no reason not to do this swap, I'd like to know if I can order a cover and knob assembly. By the way, why is this old negative review still live? It is rather out of date and no longer true. (That customer, if he is still in the Amazon/DeWalt system, deserves a free replacement saw if there was no satisfactory response off the record that we did not get to see.) I ordered the 12-inch 20-volt version because I have been checking out the 20-volt replacement batteries that are flooding the market. I needed a 20-volt tool that I use regularly to properly discharge these batteries, which mostly work well enough, but exaggerate their working amperage and who knows how long they really last? Because I cut 4 to 6 cords of wood every year, this will be two birds with one stone for me. Another by the way, I see in the manual that we are still expected to drain the bar oil after every use. Good luck with that! The correct way to store these saws overnight is to hang them, vertically, using the convenient hole a few inches below the tip of the bar. Very little if any oil will drain out. I also note that failure of automatic oiling is apt to occur after several hours of cutting especially if much fine sawdust is being generated. A properly sharpened chain helps a lot, but even so, when you notice that oil is not flowing, it may well be time to remove the chain and rake out the guide groove in the bar. Pay special attention to bar oiling area. The groove in the bar intersects with the bar's oil hole. I find that an old miter box saw is perfect for pushing the compacted oily gunk out of the bar channel. While you have all this taken apart, you may insert the battery and run the saw to see if oil is pumping out of its discharge hole. If not, it is not too difficult to clean out the oil tank and check the filter plug at the tip of the uptake tube. For some reason these matters are not covered in the manual. You may note that there are two oil holes in the bar. This is because the bar is meant to be turned upside down after it has worn enough on the bottom edge. Lastly it is not tricky to remove the motor cover to clean out the cooling-air intake screens when they become clogged. There are reasons my old saw is still running great after many, very-many, hours of use. It is a small disappointment that we are not trusted to do all the basic maintenance this saw is designed to make easy. I could see this if maintenance shops actually existed, had a short turnaround time, and did more than point out that a new tool will cost less than an avoidable repair. Still, on the whole a satisfied customer. ... show more

  • Good climbing saw for trimming
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
What you saved in fuel, you'll send that in chain oil. These saws go through the oil. Just setting without being used it leaks. Other than that it's a good saw.

  • super nice to have for small jobs
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
I have multiple chainsaws. They are loud and heavy but a necessity. That said, this is a great addition to the mix. It is basically tool-less if you discount having to sharpen the blade. I was using the medium sized 20v (5ah) batteries. These would last almost a tank of chainsaw bar oil, so they got that pretty darn close to ideal. I was cutting maple 12 inches thik with this. Its so much nicer to be using a quiet saw than a gas powered saw. Not that I recommend using one hand, but there were times when I had it easily in one hand for some of the smaller pieces of the tree. Things that are not big negatives but might be nice address in future designs: 1. The bar oil reservoir cap is a bit odd to get used to. It is like a half turn instead of a screw off cap. 2. The kick-back safety would be nice if there was a light or something that was on telling you that the safety is engaged. The first time you discover this you will think the battery is dead or the saw is broken. 3. If takes a second for the saw to come to speed. Its almost like a soft-start... where there is not much power at the time. Do not cut by applying pressure on the bar.. this will bog the machine down. Let the saw do its thing and if the blade is sharp you wont have a problem. Definitely would recommend this item. UPDATE -------------------- This is still going strong. Really like using this when I can. I have done plunge cuts, cut with the top of the bar and the normal cutting on the bottom of the bar. As long as I don't try to force the cut, I am getting pretty good cut times on a single battery. A few things that I have noted from use: 1. Its really easy to overfill the bar oil. Have a rag handy so you don't get oil in the motor. 2. Do not store this with bar oil in it. It will leak every time. To be honest, all my chain saws do that, but if you are not a normal chain saw user, you will think "what the heck???!!!". 3. Make sure you sharpen the chain saw blade. Again, this needs to be done after every so many minutes of use. This is what you need to do for any chain saw blade, but its super important on this one if you want to get the maximum time cutting per battery. 4. This is not suitable for a chain saw mill. Also not a surprise since most gas powered saw are not suitable either. I have found it to be very nice to use in conjunction with my mill to trim branches. Saves me a ton of time by not having to pull my gas saw off the mill. Still highly recommend this chainsaw... it kind of makes me hate getting out my gas chainsaws now. ... show more
