I live way out in the sticks and no one is going to drive (including AAA) to my rescue if my truck won't start. I got this "all-in-one" charger for backup, when needed. We also have a quad that often goes dead when the key or lights are left on or when we haven't started it up for quite awhile. It is interesting that one of the features does a battery repair to older batteries. I appreciate that this charger is "smart" knowing whether a battery is 6V or 12V and it knows whether you put the clamps on right. That part scares me so much that I don't want to even try putting the clamps on! The instructions say it will give a warning with flashing lights. That is reassuring. The "trickle" feature is something I have never heard of. It would be great to be to have a device with a "trickle option" attached to your battery full time when a vehicle is rarely used. No more wondering if the vehicle will start after spending a lengthy time without using it. I am pleased to have this backup battery charger stored in my truck for emergency situations. Five Stars!

This charger has 3 modes, and support 2 voltages (6 and 12). The modes let you charge a flooded lead acid (FLA) or absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery, a lithium of LiFEPo, or use a repair mode, that suggests a pulse charge. The voltage selection is automatic, and seems to infer it from the current charge level of your battery. It comes with screw-on leads and clamps, and you can switch between them with the SAE 2 terminal plug that is fairly standard across battery chargers. I tested this on my car, and it detected the voltage fine and started charging, although not for long since it was already charged. I also put it into repair mode on a really dead battery, and it did detect the battery, and start the pulse charging. But, the auto voltage detect means that if your 12 volt battery falls below 6 volts, it's going to be treated as a 6 volt battery. This was the case with my test battery, and I don't expect it's going to be fixed by the repair option. Any lead acid type battery is pretty much a goner if it falls below 9 volts or so. The clamps do seem to have an issue where on one side, the metal does not extend past the plastic outer housing (see photo), which means that side of the clamp won't make contact with the battery post. It hasn't affected the operation, and this charger won't put enough wattage to overheat the clamp due to less contact area, but it is poor quality. As far as value goes, this one is OK. It's not too cheap, but not more expensive than a name-brand 3 amp charger, and this one does have three functions whereas most just handle 12 volt FLA or AGM batteries. Overall, I give it 4 stars, minus 1 for the sub-par clamps.

I haven't often needed a charger for standard lead acid batteries. However, of the last few years I've started acquiring a small collection of LiFePO4 batteries for my ham radio hobby, as well as hurricane preparedness. You can't use just any charger with LiFePO4. For long life of the batteries, you need ones that will specifically cycle the power a certain way while charging. The chargers I currently have look nearly like the standard laptop charger, a large rectangular block in the middle of an otherwise unassuming power cord. While I have two of these designed for LiFePO4 charging, they provide no feedback about the charge level, so I was looking for something better. Plugging this new charger up to one of my LiFePO4 batteries, it began to charge right away and provided a 4-stage level of how charged the battery was (25%,50%, 75%, and 100%). When I began charging the first battery was already blinking at the 75-100% and after a few minutes was solidly showing 100%. I'm now topping off the second. With the older charger, I'd have probably let the first sit longer as I couldn't be certain it was full. The control is very simple. Just one button to switch between lead acid and LiFePO4. For my ham radio configuration, I always use Anderson Powerpole connectors, so I bought an SAE to Powerpole cable. It worked well, though fortunately the adapter cable came with a gender changer on the SAE for as with the other reviewer, the charger's connector was reverse of what it should have been to connect to the cable. Otherwise, no issues charging or connecting. I did also use the provided terminal clips to charge a LiFePO4 battery that had only standard blade connectors and it worked fine as well.

This is a YHCHKJ trickle charger/battery maintainer that can be used for a variety of batteries, including 6 volt and 12 volt vehicle batteries. My husband is retired and doesn't drive his car very often, and on several occasions when he wanted to go somewhere he found his battery completely dead. That's not great for the battery of course, so we got this trickle charger. We already had a regular battery charger/starter but it isn't a trickle charger/maintainer. I was happy to see that this trickle charger is just as easy to use as our old charger. As soon as we hooked it up, it immediately auto selected 12 volt. There is a handy display that shows how charged your battery is, and tells you when it's full. Once your battery is full, it automatically switches to trickle charging to maintain your charge. This trickle charger is working great for us, and it's nice to know my husband's car will actually start when we need it to!
