The wall around the base is actually not metal, but a waterproof vinyl similar to a trampoline material. That’s probably how the manufacturer is able to keep the cost low. And the cost is great for a propane firepit that works, looks good, and is easy to assemble. It looks really stylish with the pattern on the vinyl, but since the base isn’t metal, be sure to buy a waterproof cover. It works great so far! I love that it has the table insert so you can use it even if you’re not having a fire.

I bought four of these and they all had good size dents on the top of them gave as gifts but very disappointed in them I should have sent them back but the people I gave them to had already put them together I was very embarrass when I seen them
