  • Great pool
We got this pool because of size constraints of the back yard. Setup was easy (would have been easier if it wasn't for the hot Florida summer sun and mosquitos this year.) It took about an hour to completely set up with 2 people (after days of site prep). This thing is heavy, the box was almost 300lbs. It took approx 9 hrs to fill the almost 7000 gallons. Here are some reccomendations I have while setting up. First, level ground approx 21 feet by 12 feet, compacted and covered in sand is a must. The slightest differences in the leg heights will be very noticable when filled with water as the water line will not follow the pattern on the inside of the liner. Second, You WILL need wood blocks under the legs. I used a 2x10 treated board and cut 12 pieces to 15" each. The weight on the legs will cause them to sink badly without spreading the weight on blocks (pavers not suggested as the would pobably break). Even my blocks sunk slightly under the weight and 2 of the corners are a little higher than the rest of the pool (how I know that the water line is noticeable in the first suggestion). Third, use baby powder on the long poles across the top before sliding into the liner (will make it MUCH easier to slide the poles in. Some things I noticed while filling. One, the corner pieces will fit very loosely (they don't snap or clip in, can leave you scratching your head). As the pool fills, these will get super tight, almost like they are going to break. This is normal and they will be loosey goosey at the end, Two, the long sides will bow way in but they straighten when the pool gets close to completely full. The ladder does what it is supposed to do, but it is flimsy and shaky when you get on the top of it. Would reccomend getting a more sturdy ladder for safety. This pool comes with the pump/filter (which so far, works great), the ladder, Complete cleaning kit (including a vacuum, hoses, attachments and skimmer (holes in skimmer screen are way to big, good for leaves only)), a cover for the pool and a vollyball net. I have read some reviews suggesting a lager pump/sand filter which I will probably upgrade to in the future as the vacuum works but is really not strong enough to pick the sand from the bottom. The upgrade filter assy was approx $160 on Amazon. I would suggest getting a seperate timer to turn the pool pump on/off every day (got mine from eBay for $27 shipped). You will need to cut the GFCI plug off of the motor and replace it with a waterproof 15amp 3 wire plug cap (Lowes or Home Depot for under $10). Black wire to brass screw, white wire to silver screw and green wire to green screw. The reason to remove the GFCI is that when the timer turns off, the GFCI will trip so you would need to reset it every time the timer turns back on. Please plug the timer into a GFCI receptacle for safety. I got the Intex 54601EG saltwater system separately. Took 2 40lb bags of pool salt and I am at approx 2900 ppm salt concentration (Intex says 2500 to 3500ppm is ideal). The water is always clear and blue (nice to be able to just get in and swim, not having to deal with chemicals). They do reccomend Cyanitic (sp?) acid to help stabilize the chlorine but I am yet to use it. The water is soft with a very slight salt taste but it is AMAZING how you can keep your eyes open under water with ZERO irritation or burning (so cool!). Well woth it. Amazon was great (as always). Best prices, free shipping, no tax. Got it 2 weeks earlier than expected. Delivery persons brought it right into my garage for me, not just dumped in the driveway. All in all, this was a great decision and we are hoping to enjoy it for years to come! ... show more

  • The Best Item We've Ever Bought On Amazon.
We love the pool that is why I am giving it 5 stars but we do have a single minor complaint concerning the things we were NOT told would be needed to operate the sand filter pump that came with the pool. Another reviewer may have mentioned these things but we missed it before ordering the pool, otherwise we would have made sure to order these things at the same time we ordered the pool and save some time and money. First, let me tell you why we love it. I just took my first swim in it this morning with my kids. Oh,what joy! Swimming in this pool makes me feel like a kid again! I really have to thank my husband as this purchase was his wonderful idea. He's a triathlete and had been saving up to upgrade his bikes but instead suggested we buy a pool and get it set up in time for Easter. I'm so glad we did since this is really something our whole family can enjoy. The pool itself also just makes our back yard feel and look so much more like a place where we want to spend time and my husband and I are already inspired to begin some other backyard projects to enhance our property even more. Installing the pool was much easier that I expected. It only took three of us (my husband, my 13-year old daughter and I) to get it set up and we did it in less than 3 hours. We started setting it up yesterday at around 4pm and had it ready to start filling with water before 6:00pm. Preparing the ground and making it level was the hardest part since our back yard was very rugged with heavy clay soil. We waited patiently for 2 days straight as my husband worked his behind off (my daughter and I helped a little) with only a shovel, pickaxe, a long level and a wheelbarrow to try his best to remove all the grass and make the ground perfectly level (he's a perfectionist). By 3:30pm he was beginning to doubt that he could get the ground perfectly level before the end of the weekend. But the kids and I were tired of waiting. We wanted to have our pool ready in time for Easter Sunday. My younger daughter (the most gifted communicator of us all) managed to coax him into going through with it and so it was with some hesitation that he decided to start setting up the pool on the imperfectly leveled ground. By 5:30am today the pool was almost completely full to the recommended water level. The difference in the water level around the perimeter of the pool is only about 1.5" at most and the bottom is only slightly bumpy at one end only but I think we can live with that. At some point in the near future when he has the time I expect my husband to try to fix it. Perhaps he'll do so before he starts building the deck around the pool. Our Only Complaint: Our pool came with a sand filter pump 12" (model SF10110). The idea of using sand to clean a pool is all new to us. At first when we read "sand filter pump" we thought it was a pump that removed the sand from the pool and thought OK, cool! I kid you not! Anyway, if you are ordering this pool, make sure to buy the required type of sand (No. 20 silica sand or glass sand with particle size range 0.45 to 0.85 mm and a Uniformity Coefficient less than 1.75) to put inside the sand filter pump tank. That's a special unit of the pump where the water is filtered using this special sand. I still don't know how that is possible. Anyway, I wish we knew about the special sand requirement when ordering our pool so we could have ordered the sand too. The other missing but required part that is not included is the drain hose/pipe or at least a garden hose adapter to connect your garden hose to the drain/waist outlet hose connection port on the sand filter pump. ... show more

  • INTEX Ultra XTR Above Ground Pool 9’x18’
We are very pleased with our purchase, it’s exactly what we wanted. We decided to scale down from our 12’24’ INTEX Ultra XTR to a 9’x18’, it’s a great pool for a summer cool down and 52 inches deep, approx. 5,000 gallons. If you have kids, go with a bigger size. The pool ladder INTEX provides is cheap and not childproof, we invested in a better ladder. The sand pump filter works great and is easy to set up, all your hoses are provided. You need to purchase the filter sand separately specific for sand filters. The pool is easy to set up, you need at least 2, maybe 3 people when you go to stand the sides up and connect the pool supports. It probably takes 1.5-2 hours, less time each year. The pool is sturdy and the liner is high quality. We take the pool down every year, that will preserve the life. This pool needs level ground. I prefer a sand base and soft ground cover for a soft feel on your feet. Read the set-up instructions and watch set-up videos before you start installation This seller was very good with communication and quick to respond. ... show more

  • Great first pool
It is a great pool as long as you follow all the instructions. I'd read the reviews on-line and did a bit of research before we started. We had to prep the area by removing the grass with a sod cutter. We leveled the ground by adding dirt and tamping it down. We built the 15" by 15" treated wood platforms to put flush with the ground. And then we assembled the pool. Two people are needed to assemble it. We found the DVD instructions helpful but the pool can be assembled with just the manual. This is our first pool, so leveling the area took a bit of work but completely worth it. Our nieces love the pool. Our siblings and parents have enjoyed swimming too. The sand filter does a great job. We bought an Intex saltwater system separately and are pleasantly surprised by it's performance. Very little maintenance is needed. The water really is crystal clear! We bought a solar cover and use it along with the debris cover that is included. Using these 2 covers every night has helped keep the pool water warm and kept a lot of leaves and bugs out of the pool. We are thoroughly enjoying the pool. Next year the area will already be level and we can assemble the pool more easily. ... show more

  • Great pool for the money!
I can't top the already well written and researched reviews here about this pool, but I just wanted to add a few things that we've experienced since we bought (and set it up) in July 2016. 1. We live in PA, so we were on the fence about taking it down every winter, as is recommended. Laziness won out, and we haven't taken it down at all, only winterized it like a hard sided above ground pool. It's held out great for three summers now. My husband WAS very careful about installing it, though, leveling the ground first, placing sand as the base, and following the recommendations by the manufacturer for the pillars for support. 2. We did have to upgrade the pump. The first two summers we used the pump that was included, but it didn't clean the pool very well. The pump we used this third summer was a used pump we got from a friend, from an old, much larger pool, so I can't give any recommendations (sorry!) but it works much better than the pump that came with this pool. 3. If you have anyone larger than a small adult using this pool, I absolutely recommend upgrading the ladder. The ladder that comes with this pool seems to bear a lot of weight (judging from my own use! I'm not a small person) but it's wobbly and feels unstable when you're stepping over the top to descend down the other side. Even bolting the ladder down at the bottom onto our deck didn't solve the stability issues. Larger people, and especially, older people, might have trouble getting safely into and out of the pool. However, I haven't yet upgraded the ladder myself, and I'm still here. :) So, nothing more that hasn't already been said, actually. I know that a lot of people have already mentioned these issues, but I just wanted to add that we've experienced them too...and still, the pool is amazing. It's so hard to find a pool to fit a small yard, and this one does the job nicely! Our backyard has become a small oasis ever since we've installed it. For some reason Amazon the link to add a photo isn't working right now, or else I'd share a few. We love this pool! ... show more

  • LOVE this pool - on its 8th season! LOVE this pool - on its 8th season!
Love this pool! We purchased it in summer of 2009, and we are still using it! When we bought it, it came with a small pump and paper filters (useless), so we purchased a sand filter and it works great, along with a larger pump. The steps were very flimsy, so we ordered a very nice ladder. Be sure to level the ground, put sand down under the ground cloth (we are now on our 2nd tarp) and put wood blocks or pavers under the legs (the instructions state this, so I wonder why they do not show it in their pictures). I marked the rods with a permanent ink pen to make it easier to put up come summer, and duct taped them together. Use baby powder on the rods to help them slide in easier. The pool will look caved in until it fills with water. Once full, it is very stable. Putting blocks under the legs can correct for slightly unlevel ground. If the ground is not level, the weight of the water will bend the steel rods. We have well water, but installed a whole house filtration system, so we fill it from the hose and don't need chemicals because the water is balanced. Do some research on "balanced" water and have your water tested at a pool supply store. They will tell you what needs to be done. If your well water is not filtered, the chlorine you put in will turn the water a sick shade of green. Buy something that takes the metal out - a pool supply store can help you. Also buy a solar blanket - they really do work! We take the pool down in the winter. I should also note it has only been used by myself and my husband, and a few adult guests - no kids rough-housing in it. ... show more

  • Super easy to set up!
We were lucky because we already had a concrete slab to put this on. It took my husband and I about an 1 hour or so put this pool together.. It was very easy.. We did have help lifting the sides they are pretty heavy. We also put baby powder on the rails as others have suggested. It was a good idea. They slide much easier. It would be a lot more work putting it on the grass. If you do be aware that you will need to put something under the supports (recommended is 15x15x2 pressure treated wood). You will need to do this or the pool supports will sink into the ground. Also the supports come out at least a foot from the liner on the pool. Its more like 11x21x52 when you account for the supports. The pump (sand filter) works great. We also bought the salt water system, pool skimmer, and a better ladder. All are working out great.. We are very happy with this pool! Update 7/21/14- we still love the pool..but we were ready to get rid of it because it was so hard to keep clean.. The pool cover that comes with it is trash.. You have to tie it and remove the ladder to keep out the leaves and such.. We have trees, which is not ideal we know.. You cant keep the ladder in the pool with the cover that comes with it either..This gets pretty annoying over time.. After much looking we found the best cover ever!!! Is it ugly yes!! Does it matter no!! I went from vacuuming the pool 3 times a week to doing it once month..It is a mesh cover that allows water to move through it.. but keeps bugs, and leaves out...Water never gets caught on top on the cover.. Which makes it so hard to get the cover off the pool without a lot of pulling.. Then everything on top of the cover goes into the pool(dirt, bugs, leaves)I bought it much larger than the pool, so no need to remove the ladder..It goes right over and still covers up the pool..It was the best money we ever spent..Super easy to put on, or remove by yourself.. Here is the item..I could not get it to come up in the product link even though I bought it on amazon..so here is the web link http://www.amazon.com/Robelle-382545R-In-Ground-Cover-45-Feet/dp/B009QGLUKS/ref=sr_1_2?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1405976779&sr=1-2&keywords=mesh+pool+cover Update 6/5/14- Here are the items we bought and are happy with all,and I also wanted to mention the pool fill process. As it is fills the sides will bow in a lot.. Don't worry. Once the pool is just about full they straighten right out (as long as everything is level). • If you bought this pool set it up and fill it...FAST!!
I made the fatal error of purchasing the pool before I was ready to set it up. It sat protected under a tarp on my patio slab for 8 months in southern California so it wasn't exposed to extreme temperatures. I set the pool up this weekend and set up was pretty easy. Without any help, I had it up in less than 2 hours taking several breaks because of the heat and humidity. Once the pool was about 1/3 full, I noticed water puddling in a couple spots. I saw no leaks on the sides where the water was coming out, and after closer inspection I saw that the water was seeping out from underneath the pool where the seamed joints occurred. I got into the pool with a bottle of red food color laid down a 5"-6" bead of food color along the seam in the vicinity where it was leaking. I saw no evacuation of the dye. No punctures either. Now it's too late to return the liner. The liner is warrantied only for 90 days. Other parts are warrantied for one year. Intex doesn't even sell that liner any more which is a good indication that they know the product is crap and they are cutting their losses by no longer offering them for purchase. If I can't stop these leaks, I will have to take an $800 bath...but not in my pool. It doesn't hold water ... show more
