  • The Bear
The bear deserves an award. Really great bear. The bear just wanted their car.

  • Don’t watch sober
This is one of those movies that’s so freaking bad it’s absolutely hilarious. Obviously no one in the mini van would notice that a gigantic grizzly bear had climbed on top of the roof. There’s only one way to watch this movie. Roll yourself up a big fatty, don’t take it at all seriously, and laugh at how incredibly bad this movie is.. ... show more

  • Bear not grizzly at all
The movie wasn't that bad in the in the beginning, except for the fact that I seriously doubt that bears have flashbacks (the scene where he thinks about the cub getting shot). While, I believe a bear will fight for its young, I doubt it will go away and keep coming back the way this bear did. When bears kill they don't usually drag people around (like he did to the first girl), they just kill them. The part where the bear follows the brother to the restaurant and drags him back about a couple of miles instead of killing him was just ridiculous, in fact, it was so crazy that the actor playing the younger brother (Brendan Michael Coughlan) almost busted out laughing at the thought. After being drug back to the vehicle, the older brother states he saw their parents, but clearly in the scene he only made it to his white Porsche before the bear came out. So, the bear followed him about two miles or less, after seeing him in parking lot let him see his parents (why he didn't get the parents attention, I don't know), then dragged back him to the car for the others to see him die. But he didn't die then, he had to find out about his brother and wife's affair. And if he could run to the restaurant then they could have been out of there. And when he ran to the restaurant it was late, so the parents were still there, they were driving in the early part of the day. And the bear can sneak up on people without them hearing, yes a 500ILBS bear can apparently hold his breath(not making his usual grunting noises) and creep up on people in this movie. The ending was horrible, I mean the bear didn't kill her because she apologized. Really ? Speaking of talking to the bear, it was just goofy that the older brother would be cursing and threatening a bear. The shooting of the movie could have been better, you can see the guy with the fake bear claw on his hand in one of the shots. You could tell it was a bear suit in many cases. The parts that work are when the characters are talking about their problems, not the so-called scary parts, because they aren't scary. They could have avoided the whole situation. Brendan Michael Coughlan is cute and I hope he gets better movies than this in the future. ... show more

  • Unlikable characters get fleshed out.
Suspenseful with good character and relational development. Don't expect Oscar-worthy, but better than the 2.5 stars it currently has for sure!

  • You Have Your Facts Wrong.
The Grizzly Bear is the Largest Land Animal in North America. Nope. For those of us who went to school & KNOWS North American includes United States, Canada, Alaska, & any of its' territories. The LARGEST Land Mammal in North America is the Bison/Buffalo. If you are talking just about native bears. The Polar Bear is larger than the Grizzly. Having the wrong facts at the very beginning of the movie, tells about the people who created the movie. 3 Stars for the BEAR. D~ ... show more

  • Ruined my bear movie binge watch...
Everything was going fine, watching bear movies and documentaries in quarantine, I've been through pretty much everything else, somehow got into bears. Watched 'Revenant', then 'Backcountry' (not as good acting/script overall, but the bear attacks are quite terrifying) Then, "The Edge" before arriving at this one, which was probably a bad idea considering it is a tough act to follow. if you have not seen "The Edge" and want a good bear movie, highly recommended, possibly best "grizzly bear" movie ever made! Anyway, 'Bear' kicks off with a road trip, the participants being two brothers and their respective girlfriends. The older brother resents the younger brother for just "taking off and having a good time, being in a rock band on tour" and seems more than a little jealous and snidely chides him with thick sarcasm constantly. This conflict comes off immediately contrived and totally manufactured for the film...it does not make a whole lot of sense. Basically the older brother should just shut up and get over it, but doesn't. It's annoying shallow character development we are being forced to watch. We quickly arrive at the inevitable stranding of the group out in the woods (in a region of the country where you are much more likely to find mountain lions as the scary local animal, but we won't go into that too much, have to have a grizzly bear in this film, no matter if it's out of it's territory). The car get's a flat tire, within moments a female grizzly comes lumbering out of the woods, uh oh. Here is where the acting truly tanks and starts on a downward slope. It is totally clear these people are not witnessing a large brown bear, growling menacingly, and moving closer. It's way too muted a reaction from the group. It's as if they saw a skunk, don't move, play dead, it'll go away...or the worst that might happen is somebody get's sprayed. The older brother shoots and kills it with a hand gun as it's fleeing, then papa bear shows up, he's really unhappy you just killed mama...he's going to maul and eat you for that. There is zero realism here for reference...in terms of how bears (and people) act. Clearly very little research was done and it shows...they just wanted to make a "bear kills stranded kids" movie. It's not that they act dumbly, most people would panic, they don't panic, they just act poorly...as in they are not too good at this acting gig. Basically an insult to anyone interested in these majestic, dangerous (perhaps not as monstrous by default as one many associate) animals. These movie bears are more like rabid dogs in bear suits, it's stupid. I won't give any spoilers but the ending is flatly ridiculous, poorly written and acted. Two stars for the effort, but it's lame and predictably way off, which results in a sad effort that get's tired before it even begins. ... show more
