  • Awkward
Color: 16" BBQ Smoker Grill with Built in Therm...
Got this as a backup and travel smoker and so far it’s working out well. Wish it came with a travel bag. Not top of the line but holds a lot and is versatile. Taller than expected. Assembly took longer than anticipated but wasn’t difficult. Multiple layers let it work as a smoker, grill, or even firepit. Built-in thermometer and access doors make temperature control easier. Sturdy and functional, though the pieces are a bit awkward to carry around. Still, it’s convenient for travel. Smoking meat has been better than expected with consistent heat, and the flavor comes out nicely. The versatility makes it feel worth the effort to assemble each time. ... show more

  • Works but Low Build Quality
Color: 17" BBQ Smoker Grill with Built in Therm...
This smoker/grill is a mixed bag. Out of the box, there were several issues - chipped coating, severe geometric deformation, sharp edges, and an overall "flimsy" feel (see photos). After assembly (which was severely hampered by the geometric defects mentioned above, which required extensive re-work to resolve), I coated the inner surfaces using aerosolized avocado oil and did a "burn-in" to remove any manufacturing residues and season the grill. During this initial burn, the paint began peeling off at the lid-grill interface (see photos). This was all wiped away prior to actually cooking food. Also noted during the burn-in and subsequent cook was the excessive smoke leakage (see photos) due to bad fit between mating parts. (This will be corrected with further re-work and the addition of gasketing material before cooking again.) As a test, I smoked a spatchcocked chicken. As can be seen in the photos, a standard size charcoal starter chimney just fits. The chicken was approximately five pounds, so you get an idea, from the photo, of the capacity (on one of the two available cooking grates). Remarkably, during the cook of the chicken, the temperature was very easy to hold steady at 250 °F (± 2 or 3 degrees) (see photo). I never rely solely on built-in thermometers and always verify with a high quality instant-read thermometer. I have no idea whether this aspect of the grill's performance will continue to be the case or was simply "beginner's luck". My chief concern is durability. This thing is ultra-flimsy. It's light weight and easy to move by simply lifting it (there are no wheels). The low build quality, sub-par materials, and the enormous amount of re-work necessary to make this smoker even minimally useable make the price point fairly excessive for what you're getting. ... show more

  • A great little grill/smoker
Color: 17" BBQ Smoker Grill with Built in Therm...
So I have to say this was a lot to put together. It comes in tiny pieces and strips. However, once you do get it together, it has these clips on it so that you can break it down to put it in a car to travel so that is definitely an extra perk of this thing. It’s actually a quite nice quality The powder coating on. It’s very nice. There were no dense chips or cracks in. It came with all of the hardware needed. The handles are thick and durable very good quality and can withstand the weight of the grill. I love that. It comes with several racks and a drip pan as well as the pan that holds the wood Did not take my husband very long at all to put it together. The instructions are very simple and straightforward. It is absolutely worth the price that it’s listed for it is a nice grill. It looks exactly as it’s shown in the item description you’re not gonna be getting some variation of the product you will get exactly what they show for that alone. It deserves at least four stars, but really the overall quality definitely make it worth an order. I love that you can grill or smoke with this using charcoal or wood and I imagine pellets would even work pretty well in it too. There is what’s it called a slide on the top that lets you control how much smoke comes out of it. It does slide very smooth. It opens and closes with ease. Overall I do recommend this grill great value for the money. ... show more

  • It's crooked, requires modifications to fit, but works
Color: 17" BBQ Smoker Grill with Built in Therm...
The media could not be loaded. This is a functional budget charcoal/wood smoker. Unfortunately, it has some problems. Assembly was fairly straightforward, though the instructions were kind of blurry and it was difficult to figure some steps out, but I think I got it right. I used wood to smoke a chicken. Here is my experience: THE GOOD: - When fully sealed, it drops the temperature at the top of the smoker to around 250-300 degrees Fahrenheit, which is good for most smoking tasks. - Thermometer works. THE BAD: - Heat shielding is poor, with the wooden handle of the lid getting quite warm and the charcoal door's handle being downright impossible to use without a heat resistant glove. - The door is also very light and blows open from the wind, so either you keep it closed (which can extinguish the fire) or you risk it being blown open and having the temperature inside the smoker skyrocket. It really should be possible to partially open it and keep it there. It was also crooked (like many other parts) and doesn't really close flush (see picture). Shockingly, the instructions actually tell you to force it into shape if this happens! - The lid was crooked. I had to force it into a different shape just to get it to fit, and it's still a struggle each time to get the lid on. - Many parts are also crooked. The whole smoker just feels cheap, with paper-thin materials! I was able to bend them into a usable shape, but I don't expect this smoker to last very long. The steel seems to be even thinner than that of budget carbon steel grills. - There is no access hatch to the middle level. In other words, you have the bottom hatch for adding wood, the lid for accessing the top cooking grill and water pan, but the middle grilling surface is inaccessible. I'm still giving this 2 stars, because it works. However, the quality is definitely lacking! Likewise, the design makes half of the grilling surface essentially unusable. Overall, I recommend skipping this item and getting another smoker on Amazon. There are items in the same price range that at least have the second hatch. ... show more
