I ordered this heat pump during a temporary discount. It arrived dented, the fan blades clanked inside, and it wouldn't heat. I clicked on "Return or Replace Item" with the plan to exchange the item. I was only given the option to return the item. If I were to return the item and reorder, I saw that the discount was no longer being offered, and so I'd lose the discount price. As I didn't want to lose the discount, I called Amazon Customer Service for help with the matter. (I don't honestly remember how I acquired Amazon's customer service phone number, have had it awhile and keep it on file.) One could email Amazon customer service if they can't find their phone number. Amazon sent Varminpool an email for me, stating that I would like to exchange the damaged heat pump. Amazon has your back; I love that about Amazon. Varminpool customer service responded right away, and they were excellent to work with. They sent me a replacement heat pump with no charge, sent me a return Fed Ex label for the damaged heat pump, and I boxed it, taped it up, taped on the return label, arranged for Fed Ex to pick the package up, and all was charged to Varminpool who had pre-paid for the return label. Fed Ex came within a day to retrieve the damaged heat pump. The new heat pump arrived also with a dent, yet smaller. We went ahead and hooked it up; it runs great and heated our pool water in record time. I was able to connect the heat pump to the downloaded app on my phone via bluetooth capabilities. I could then see on my phone screen the temperature of the water coming out of the pool, and the temperature of the water heading back into the pool. There are other functions on that app, but unfortunately, our weather changed drastically, leaves began flying off the trees and into the pool, the air grew cold, and so swim season came to an abrupt end and I really had no time to use the app before storing everything away. Varminpool customer service representatives stayed in touch with me every step of the way, and helped me figure out how to connect the heat pump to the app. They are very knowledgeable. If I had had any issues with the newer heat pump and wanted to return it due to the dent, they would have surely exchanged it once again. As it turned out, they offered me an extended 4 year warranty on this heat pump should I decide to keep it, which I did, for it runs just fine. I'd like to make a note on how to hook the heat pump to hoses which come with an Intex above ground pool. I'm posting a picture of the two Intex attachments which screw right onto the Varminpool heat pump and fit the Intex hoses. All one needs to do is go onto Intex's website and look for accessories. These will be there. One could then order them through Amazon once they know what they're looking for, or order them from Intex. This 27,000BTU heat pump is projected to heat my future 18 foot round Intex pool, but for now, I have a 15 foot round pool due to our little grandson's current height. This heat pump heated chilly water overnight in our 15 foot round pool. I'm super excited to start our season out next year with this heat pump. It's quiet, it can sit in the elements be it rain or sun, doesn't need to be covered, and it's great. My husband questioned the need to cover it, but right outside our house sits our house's heat pump, and it gets covered with rain and snow each and every season. What I DO cover, though, is our pool pump. I cover it with a tote to keep the rain off the motor. Posting a picture of the tote over the pool pump before we bought the Varminpool heater, then a picture of our setup with the Varminpool heater and the tote removed for picture taking purposes. All went real smooth in setting this up. Varminpool's customer service rep asked me to be sure and reach out next swim season should I have any issues and need their help in any way. I'm a very satisfied customer.

Great mechanical performance and electrical efficiency. I have been extremely happy with this unit overall. Customer service is awesome. I managed to throw away the o-rings (for the pump). They sent free of charge and even followed up to see if I had received and and it installed ok. They are open to feedback to improve their product. I was asked to provide detailed feedback for their engineering group. Their aim is to provide the best unit possible at a great price. It does have some connectivity/controller issues, but nothing that would make me choose another manufacturer if given the option to go back to the beginning and do it again. Mechanically it is solid. Quiet and performs exactly as rated - you just have to make sure you understand that rating. Make sure you take the time to do the math and right-size your heat pump based on pool size, covered or not, your climate, and ultimately what your want as a set point. Use ChatGPT if you need to. Most that are unhappy with a heat pump's performance had unrealistic expectations. That said- My pool is 5500 gallons. 40,000 btu is rated for 13,000 gallons. That rating is based on set point below what most would want. In Phoenix in the middle of the winter I can now heat my pool literally all the way up to 104°F (max allowable setpoint). The first month (all of January) I set it on 104°F. From 57°F starting point it ran continuously for about 2 weeks to get to low/mid 90°s. My January electric bill was $90 higher than the previous year. On heating mode it only pulls about 5.7A (nameplate says 12A - I assume cooling mode will draw more.) Now that I proved that it can truly heat that far and aligned with my math, I lowered it to low 90s. Don't go in thinking this is a super-heater. It is a super-efficient heater that harvests most of its heat from the surrounding air. It's COP is dependent on the outside ambient temperature. A properly sized heat pump (based on economics/efficiency) will need to be set to maintain. You can't say I want to swim in 90° water tomorrow and have 20-30° to go. That kind of performance requires mass energy (and significantly increased costs).

The app removes the heater every time I leave the house. It does noes heat my pool up so I don’t know if it is a dud or what. Going to return it I guess.
