**Updating review from 3 to 4 stars based on app update, DVR firmware update, 2 cameras replaced and responsiveness of customer service. Will update full review shortly.** This is an update to a review I had posted previously. I had amassed a long list of problems with the device and associated software; numerous emails to support went unanswered. I finally posted a one-star review with the 'short list' of problems and before long I was contacted by Emma who has been quite pleasant and helpful in sorting through the problems and figuring out what this system will and will not do. Really the main issue confronting the system for me is that the motion detection is based on pixel changes in the camera image, not PIR motion detection, so it is subject to ongoing false alerts in an outdoor environment. There is no way around it with this system. Right now I am upgrading to three stars based on Emma's emails & help troubleshooting, her replacement of one camera that was not capturing images well, and the usability of the system to review events post-facto as a low cost substitute for a more expensive system that would provide proactive, real time alerts based on good motion sensing logic(PIR) and allow you to get in front of a problem before it happens instead of just seeing the wreckage afterwards. Notable issues: -Android app crashed a lot -- appears solved within a few weeks by version upgrade -PC camera monitoring program started on bootup despite being disabled in Win10 -- solved within a few weeks by version upgrade -There is no way to download footage recorded by motion sensor trigger without physically accessing the DVR console[fixed] -PC app is suitable only for live viewing -Android app is suitable only for viewing/recording live and viewing/recording saved footage one event at a time --no way to play an entire day's captured footage in fast forward. Must click through and watch event by event in real time. I have submitted a suggestion on how this functionality could be easily achieved and my suggestion was received gladly. -Motion sensing is not useful in the outdoor environment. Even on the least-sensitive setting, a leaf blowing across the lawn or tall turf blowing in the wind can set it off. If you have alerts turned on and, God forbid, it rains or snows, you will be receiving constant alerts. So motion detection functionality appears suitable only for an indoor environment. -Email alerts, similar issue, they come whenever motion is detected. Even for a split second. If motion continues the DVR will constantly send emails. Possibly as quickly as one per frame(mine is set to 15fps). This is being looked into by their tech support. -The device does offer a function to block certain areas of its field of view (FOV) from triggering motion detection. However I've found this feature to be problematic and I have decided not to troubleshoot it since I will not be using the unit for proactive alerts but for reviewing footage post-event only, due to the overwhelming number of alerts seemingly generated by natural motion in the environment. -Once motion is detected, the camera begins to record. This means that you don't get to see exactly what caused the motion detection to trip, if it stops before the camera starts recording. It could be a leaf blowing, or, it could be a person or a rabbit suddenly shows up and you don't see how they got there because the system doesn't hold a few seconds of footage in memory to record once motion is detected. I've made this suggestion and it was received gracefully. -As mentioned, the system WILL work without network access, however your ability to view footage and receive alerts on a remote device is absolutely dependent on the DVR's ability to see the Internet. No holes must be opened in the firewall, which suggests that both the DVR and apps are clients to a 3rd party server. If this server is compromised, your entire system should be considered compromised. -Also as noted these cameras are approx 75* FOV... if you take the time to sketch out your environment you may find that an upgrade to a system with 105* FOV cameras is worth it. Certain setups (such as a long straight wall) will require three 75* cameras to cover completely whereas they could be covered with only two 105* cameras. -Also as noted, a monitor is required but not supplied. -Lastly the documentation provided in print form, with relation to the console firmware, internet view, smartphone app and PC client, is very limited and much different from the actual firmware/software loaded in production. If you're not comfortable diagnosing problems/testing/making educated guesses at why things might not work as expected, this isn't the system for you. Go with something that has been more rigorously documented, has better "help" functions, etc. Pluses: -System is inexpensive for the number of cameras -Got it hooked up to mail server lickety split -The cords are combination BNC/DC video+power and are easy to fish -If all your camera cords come together in a place where you have WIRED ethernet access, you won't need to set up an auxiliary wifi extender to get your DVR on the network -If your DVR is also located in a secure place where you can set up your monitor and easily sit at the console to review footage, then the shortcomings in the droid app as far as quickly reviewing a day's footage, should not impact you. -Support is good once you get a hold of someone who is in a position to help. It is unfortunate that I had to post a bad review on Amazon to get attention. In short: Buy this system if cost is a top priority, where remote configuration/monitoring is not a top priority, and where you are monitoring an indoor environment or real-time alerts are not a priority (i.e. after-action review is okay). If you are hoping for a system that will alert you in real time to someone straying onto your property without permission, this is not the system for you; you should probably opt for a PIR-based motion detection instead. All things said and done I would probably invest in a system with PIR based motion detection, but, now that this is wired and in, it meets the need sufficiently, and at a very attractive price point. Upgrading to a few cameras with wider fields of view would be a strong recommendation if it benefits your setup, as the price difference is minimal.

I ordered this system. It arrived super fast and communication with the vendor has been excellent. My plan was to power up the system on the kitchen table and let it run for 4 or 5 days to become familiar with it and verify that it works. I figured being Amazon I could send it back if it didn't live up to expectations. So far, so good. I have been running this system in one configuration or another for more than two months now and have not regretted the purchase. The quality and software capabilities far exceed my expectations at this price point. My only complaint on it so far is the remote app for android. My problems with it are outlined below. Since I am not that interested in remote viewing this is not an issue for me. I have NOT been given a discount for this equipment as some reviewers so the comments below are strictly my own. 1-4-17 Received the system and wired everything except WIFI and video out. Everything worked well on initial power up. Easy setup with the Wizard. Good clear image for each camera. As night approached and the lights turned off I checked night vision. I don't know what it will do for long distance but in the house in total darkness, 15 feet away I could easily see a person move and what they were wearing. I could not make out details of the face. 1-5-17 I let system run all night and recording worked fine. Today I opened the DVR to see how it was built. The hard drive is a Toshiba 1 TB 6 GB/s SATA drive. My plan is to install a larger drive so that when we are on vacation we can have two weeks of saved video. I can then use this drive as a backup drive in my server. There is a small cooling fan on the left as you are looking at the front of the unit. There is a good size heat sink on the main chip. I plan to install the DVR on its side so the fan should be up with space on bottom ( right side of unit ) to assure air flow. There are three USB connectors. One on the front of the DVR and two on the back. A mouse comes with the system. I tested it with a wireless mouse but it would not work because you couldn't load a driver for it. The two other USB ports can be used for a backup drive and a wireless dongle. There is also an RJ45 LAN port on the back. I plugged a Cisco bridge into it to connect to my wireless LAN. Entered the password and connected with no issues. I ended up running an Ethernet cable from the RJ45 port to my router. I had some issues getting the remote access app to work with wireless. Not sure if that was the reason. Also a BNC video out connector. Not tested yet but my plan is to run this to my video distribution system so that I can view the cameras on any TV in the house. I had an issue with one of the indoor cameras. I moved the camera on its gimbal mount too far and some of the silicone tubes popped out. My error for moving it so much. I attempted to put them back but they would not stay in place and there was no way to get a dab of glue in there. Then I read the camera instructions ( yes, I should have done that first ) and learned that you can disassemble the camera to mount it to the ceiling. Now I can re glue the silicone pieces. One helpful point is that the instructions say to unscrew the bottom part of the mount. I grabbed the two pieces to unscrew and they would not budge. The trick I learned was hold the two parts very gently and wiggle them in a counterclockwise motion. 1-7-17 I set a fixed IP address on the DVR and when I go to the browser on my computer on the LAN and type in that IP address I can view the cameras and change any of the settings. This means I won't need a monitor or mouse connected to the DVR and it can be better hidden. It doesn't do you much good to DVR the bad guys and then have them steal the DVR. Installed the app SECU365 as recommended by Zosi. My Norton AV said there was no risk. After it installed it appeared to install something else and all of a sudden Norton said it sent data back to China and was a privacy issue. Considering that this is a view into my home I'm very concerned about anyone hacking into this. It may be safer to forego the remote view. If anyone has info on a different app that is known to be safer please leave a comment. Also a note on the silicone bumpers on the indoor cameras. After regluing they fell out again while installing on ceiling. The camera still held in the position I set it so it wasn't a big deal. Just annoying. I plan to replace the silicone tubes with something different on the next camera I install. 3-2-17 We have had some milder winter weather in our area so I was able to get all the wiring run in the attic and the outdoor cameras installed. I had a minor problem with one of the outdoor cameras and the vendor responded quickly and took care of the problem. I have been very happy with the quick response on any issue from the seller! With all 8 cameras running full time but not recording any audio I am able to record a few hours less than 2 weeks of video. I have not done much with learning to use the motion detection or the time out for the cameras feature. I would guess that I will get more than 2 weeks of video by only recording motion. I will write more on this topic later when I have more time. One thing I learned was that you can only save video clips out through the front panel USB port. I should have learned this before I installed the system because I had to use a 90 degree USB adaptor and a short cable to access the port. As mentioned before I can view live video, review recorded video, copy recorded video to the front panel USB and change any of the configuration settings from my Win7 browser. I wish there was a way to copy a portion of a recording to my local Win7 drive through the browser. I am planning to write to support if a firmware update would allow to do this or any other features. I will write more on this at a later time.

I have not installed this yet but I did hook one camera up and test it. This is an upgrade to our old Night Owl 1080P system. I absolutely love that it has sound so we can hear what is going on outside and I know that once we are able to set it all up, we will be able to speak through it as well. This is like the Ring camera system but with the advantage of having our own personal recorder rather than having to pay for service to store our videos. I would definitely buy this again?

This is the 2nd of these 16 Channel NVRs that I have purchased from Zosi. After running the network cables to each camera, the system is pretty much plug-n-play to start recording and viewing locally. The POE feature worked great so I didn't have to add power at each camera, and some of the runs were pretty long, around 200 feet. There is the typical extra setup if you want to view over the internet, like over a phone, but I'm fairly techy and the instructions were clear and it was easy to download the app and get it setup. When I added the 2nd NVR I only had to add that device in the existing app since they were for the same account. Several months after installing the 2nd unit, it started beeping and kept trying to restart. I contacted Zosi support and they gave instructions for how to diagnose what the issue might be. When none of that fixed it, they sent a return label and I shipped the base NVR unit back, and they sent a new replacement unit. I was able to set that unit into place, plug in the cables, and everything worked again. It wasn't a quick fix, took about 3 weeks, but the support person Louis was quick to respond to all communications from me and kept me updated regarding shipping times etc. I'm familiar with the product enough that I will not hesitate to use it on future projects.
