  • Can't Remotely Configure // Remote access is CREEPY
Color: Wired-8Cam
OK, this is going to be a bit technical, but I want to offer a THOROUGH review here of why I'll be returning the system. I bought this system to obtain a higher resolution system to replace a wired system I put in about 5 - 6 years ago, which has worked flawlessly over that time; except that many of the LED lamps that surround the optical lens to facilitate night vision had burned out. And my old cameras were 480P and of course these new ones are 1080P. My old wired system was a brand.....GENERIC CHINESE BOX, no name at all, somewhere around $150 on Amazon. Seriously, it's a noname. For this new system, let's begin: The GOOD: The new cameras are exceptionally clear, and the night vision is OUTSTANDING. The BAD #1: My DVR "hub" is up in a closet, such that the wires from the cameras drop down from the attic to the connectors on the back of the unit. It is NOT AT ALL convenient for hooking up a monitor or using a mouse, etc. to setup. This is not a problem, as once it's configured on the network, I access it through a browser for all the camera setup features, such as areas of motion detection, alarm settings, etc. OOOOPPPPSSSS! This systems doesn't support that!!! My 5 year old system could be remotely accessed via a browser using the local 192.168.x.x addressing, but this unit has NO SUCH CAPABILITY?!?!? You have to install a .exe program on your computer and run it, and it will snoop out and find your unit on your INTRANET, but the program is a cripple application with no setup features whatsoever. I'm in shock about this, and never expected to go so far backward in functionality. I simply cannot lash a monitor onto my system every time I want to wiggle the configuration, and this is just inane and silly. THE ABOVE IS NOT MY MAIN GRIPE, believe it or not.... The BAD #2: HUGE HUGE HUGE >> This is where is gets really technical, and I've not wasted the time to figure out all the details of what's going on, I've seen enough to want to be done with this system....OK, take a moment to go the the Android Playstore, and call up the ZOSI App on the playstore, WHICH I FAILED TO DO BEFORE BUYING, and read some reviews, and then come back here and continue......OK, here we go....the APP reviews will discuss at some length the incredible lag in accessing images using the phone app. Well, I think I can explain that, and nobody has apparently connected the dots. On my OLD APP, with the OLD DVR, when I ran the phone app, it was necessary to program in my external "home" IP address, the subnet, the port, etc. to tap into my DVR remotely. It was not trivial to do, and I had to open port 6036 on my Mikrotik router to get through, as Suddenlink default blocks some more typical port numbers, think 8080, etc. OK, but when I ran the phone app, I got all my images in real time after only the typical internet lag/latency of a second or two, as (this is important) I WAS GETTING THE IMAGES THROUGH A DIRECT LINK BETWEEN MY PHONE AND THE DVR. Now, when I setup this ZOSI DVR, I was somewhat amazed that simply by using the Android QR Code reader on my phone and taking a picture of the little grid QR stamp on the DVR, I was literally looking at my home camera images some 25 seconds later. Exactly HOW did this connection get made so automatically? (And not my home WIFI INTRANET here, I turned off WIFI and was seeing the images through 4G cell service.) I'll tell you how, more or less -- the moment I plugged my router into that DVR, and the DVR found its internet, it "phoned home" to a server somewhere, and told that server it's own unique QR code, it's IP address is found itself on, internal DHCP assignment, etc, such that the server PROBABLY BACK IN CHINA, immediately had established and recorded that entire route. So, now when I did the QR scan on my phone, and the APP on my phone sent the QR Code, AS READ FROM MY OWN DVR I JUST HOOKED UP, back to the server in CHINA, it was immediately able to make the association between MY phone application, and MY HOME DVR. I literally never entered anything about device addressing. While this makes setup a real breeze, my conclusion here is that all the real time images that one views on one's phone, are traveling via that server, somewhere offshore. There is never a direct internet connection between the phone app and the DVR. I believe that the DVR sends a "heartbeat" to that server perhaps a few times per day, and certainly whenever it comes back up from a power loss, in order to ensure that link remains. I'm 100% sure I could disconnect that DVR, take it do a different house 1000 miles away, plug it back in, and with no IP addressing entry at all, I'd be watching the new images on my phone. Do keep in mind, this solves the problem that early generation DVR's had wherein if you had a dynamic (changing) IP address, you phone app would lose the link to your DVR. But the downside, is the incredible travel delay, and the fact that the China server is seeing all your images all the time, including possibly (likely) even when you are not personally accessing them. Frankly, I don't care much if that Chinese see my yard, but I'm offended at the infrastructure here not being explained, and I can't take the transit delay which is 25X worse than my system of 5 years ago. BIGGEST CURRENT PROBLEM: Is there ANY system still sold that avoids this mess? Good luck, when you boil it down, the RING systems aren't any better, except the transit is quicker, and I suppose the server routing is in the U.S......maybe. Thanks for reading! ... show more

  • I had upgraded to a 16 channel DVR that I got for a great price that was made in Austin TX
Color: Wired-4Cam
These cameras were shipped out and received within a few days of placing the order. I had upgraded to a 16 channel DVR that I got for a great price that was made in Austin TX. The dome cameras I had were from the old DVR that the 16 channel DVR replaced and are made completely of plastic. Once I received the Zosi cameras, I had noticed that the housing including the ring and the base was completely made of metal and had a good black finish. The ball housing that housed the camera and electronics is completely sealed other than the hole in the back where the wire exits the housing. I had read reviews where others had complained that moisture or condensation had got inside and fogged up the camera lens. This hole is the only place that moisture can enter the camera housing so I filled the hole around the wire with a little silicone sealant. The sealant I used is a sealer for rain gutters that can be purchased at Lowes or Home Depot. I live in Houston which has a high percentage of humidity and have had no problems yet. When I first received the cameras I hooked them up in the house to compare them to the old cameras I have. The colour on the Zosi cameras was much better than the old cameras. I was wearing a black T-shirt that looked black on the Zosi cameras and look washed out gray on the old cameras. The second thing I noticed was that the Zosi cameras had a much wider angle of view and much better resolution than the old cameras. The third thing is the Zosi cameras has a much better picture in dark conditions. There is a click noise that the Zosi cameras make as they switch to the night mode that would indicate that they are using a relay to switch as I have read about in other review but I have not yet had any problem with the cameras getting stuck in black and white mode, Overall I am quite happy with these cameras. ... show more

  • Very good for the price, but a few quirks.
Color: Wired-4Cam
Excellent image quality for the price, and good range on the night vision. But, a couple of drawbacks. 1) The camera switches to Black & White in lower lighting conditions, and the threshold for this is quite high. Meaning, even when there is a pretty good amount of light, the camera will still switch to B&W. 2) The switch that toggles between color and B&W and turns night vision on is a mechanical relay. All of my other cameras have had a solid-state (i.e. transistorized) switch. The problem with the relay is that it is quite loud. If you try to take a nap in a room with this camera during the day, depending on how the light shines through the window, you will hear the relay frequently toggling back and forth, and it is noisy! And, I have doubts about the longevity before the relay contacts wear, and the unit appears to be sealed such that you can't open it to change the relay. 3) The mounting / swivel mechanism is lousy compared to other similarly-styled cameras I've owned. 4) The aspect ratio is claimed to be 16x9, but I don't believe that is accurate. When displaying the image on a 16x9 monitor, everything is visibly stretched. It looks like the actual aspect ratio of the signal is somewhere between 4:3 and 16x9. But, at the price, these are quite good, and the image is notably better than the lower-resolution analog cameras I previously used. ... show more

  • Definitely check these devices out!!
Color: Wired-8Cam
Pruduct is used to monitor my Homestead, in a very rural mountainous region of the West Coast of America. It was a simple installation and straight forward. Quality of the camera image and entire system are pristine. Night vision is extreme! I can see much further with clarity than what is described in the documentation/stats of the device. Very, very reasonable pricing which will deliver you peace-of-mind, both when you're local or away, via a swift, secure and a streamlined accessibility to your security DVR system. I confidently believe you would not be disappointed, or regretful in any fashion, with a purchase from ZOSI. I hope life is treating you and your loved one's well. Stay safe, secure and confident and enjoy the peaceful frame of mind you have given yourself. ... show more
