  • Best rice cooker I've ever had
Color: White Size: 5 1/2 cup
I've tried many rice cookers. First my mom taught me to make it in the microwave, which is messy since it overflows. Then I purchased rice cookers. Several burned at the bottom. One ALWAYS left a gooey wet clump of mushy rice in the middle. Worse than burning; horrible stuff. The Aroma rice cooker was much better, but I was very interested in finding the ultimate. When I purchased this Zoji, I made a batch in it, plus a batch in my Aroma. The Aroma rice was fine. But the Zoji rice was absolutely perfect and sublime. The best way to describe it is perhaps eating a peach from the grocery store vs one ripe from your tree. Also, using cold Zoji rice for fried rice made perfect fried rice. For the first time I didn't have to heavily oil the wok. It didn't stick! Don't ask me how. I'm very happy with the Zoji and the Aroma has since been rehomed. ... show more

  • 100% real Asian Brutha from Another Motha Approves
Color: White Size: 5 1/2 cup
As a 100% Asian who eats rice regularly and therefore has owned many rice cookers throughout life, the problem with rice cookers are two things: 1. The actual cooking. Does the rice cooker cook rice good? Or does it overcook/undercook the rice, making it soggy, or still hard, or perhaps unevenly where parts of the rice are overcooked and soggy near the edges but the center portion is still undercooked and hard. Or perhaps the bottom layer is burnt to a crisp. This rice cooker cooks every part evenly. No sogginess. In fact, OGs like myself knows how to steam rice properly like in the olden days before rice cookers were invented. I learned to do this when I was in the 2nd grade, when my mom was on a week long trip. My dad (who's really picky with how his food was prepared) approved it so I kept steaming the rice manually for the entire week. This rice cooker cooks rice as good as the manual way. 2. Extending the life of cooked rice. Does the rice on the top and or sides at the top start crusting dry rock hard or turn yellow after a short time like 24-48 hours? This is a clear sign of poor humidity or temperature control on the part of the rice cooker. If you finish your rice within hours, this is not a problem for you. But if you need the rice to last a few days, this is a real problem. This rice cooker keeps cooked rice in perfect or near perfect conditions, even after 24-48 hours. Cooked rice rarely goes hard (especially top edges) or yellow even after 48+ hours. Throughout the years, I've owned many rice cookers. Eventually things break and the cooked rice starts to form hard crusts on top, or start turning yellow, sometimes in less than 24 hours after cooking. This is not normal, and not acceptable. This rice cooker has not given us much problems after a year of ownership. Mine was purchased summer 2021, and made in China... but, it works great! I was afraid made in China and "they don't make them like they used to" would be negative. Still, this has better reviews than newer models. Rice is in "Regular" mode, and NOT "Extended" mode. Regular is basically what the rice cooker is in after it's done cooking. Extended mode is if you manually put it in that mode to extend the rice. But...the irony is extended mode will increase higher probability of the rice yellowing due to a decreased temperature. Read the manual. I've had my rice in regular for 98 hours and still good to eat. Although note this is with 2 cups brown rice and 3 cups white Jasmine (Budda brand) rice. No watery smells etc. But that'll probably be the limit I'm willing to do LOL. Usually we finish the rice in 2 days, sometimes 1. One thing I have noticed is that this rice cooker has a plastic piece on the underside of the lid that surrounds the aluminum top. The edges of the plastic is supposed to be on the bottom of the aluminum lid, so that it allows only just enough steam out (while cooking) and humidity (after cooking to extend the life of the cooked rice for a few days). When opening the lid, sometimes it'll jerk up fast and forceful, causing momentum to move a part of the plastic above the aluminum. I think this can cause the top cooked rice to crust and turn yellow, which can happen if the positioning of the plastic and lid aren't correct during cooking, or afterwards. I pay attention to that from time to time and fix it by pushing the alluminum lid up to extend the life of the cooked rice. You can pull the aluminum top off to clean. Also, word of advice:. Don't buy cheap rice. Italians will tell you the type of grain used to make pasta makes a world of difference. Same with rice. Usually long grain "Jasmine" rice will cook better and taste better than cheaper rice grains. BTW, I'm straight up 100% Asian and eat rice meals multiple times a day. Many reviewers might eat rice once a week or month only. You do NOT want to be taking "rice" advice from someone who doesn't eat rice regularly LOL. That's like taking advice from your car mechanic for a medical problem you have. The Tiger brand rice cookers used to be the shiznit decades ago, but they don't make 'em last anymore. This is so far the better rice cooker I've bought. Also, searching "yellow" in the reviews, this rice cooker had the least hits. I'll update this as the years go by. 100% authentic Asian (who actually eats rice) approved. ... show more

  • Love it!
Color: White Size: 10 cup
We purchased this as an upgrade from our previous rice cooker. The price is really worth the quality! My guests were always impressed on how the rice were cooked perfectly. It was just a bit confusing to use at first. Overall, love it so much!

  • LOVE IT
Color: White Size: 10 cup
Our household has a small capacity unit of this rice cook and love it so much for many years!! Now our headcount is increasing. So itโ€™s time to go for a bigger one. We brought the same brand because it is no brainer.

  • Compact, easy to clean, and makes wonderful rice...but the timer...
Color: White Size: 5 1/2 cup
I upgraded to this model after my cheap rice cooker just was too small for my needs. I went back and forth on size between 5.5 cup and 10 cup capacity and decided that the 5.5 cup was better suited for my needs. I use a rice cooker daily for not only rice but for: boiling eggs, cream of wheat, oatmeal, cornmeal porridge, steaming a small batch of potatoes, and even just heating up a can of baked beans. I find the tune chime charming (for now at least :) ) and it is nice though that you can turn it to a plain beep or turn it off. The handle is convenient and the unit is light but sturdy. I had to balance what I wanted with price. The size of this cooker was what I expected -- nice and compact but can cook a lot of rice. I cook for 3 people and so didn't need the 10 cup capacity. It makes perfect rice and it doesn't scorch on the bottom. It is so much easier to clean than my old cooker -- it was clearly designed with that in mind. However, I hate the timer. I feel that strongly about it. It isn't a deal breaker but I find myself frustrated. I like a timer that you can set easily for minute intervals whether that be 3 minutes or 32 minutes exactly. Or a delay timer that I can set for 5:00 and have it on for however long I want. This timer (from what I can see) only allows you to set an exact time in 10 minute intervals. So if it is 2:03 pm and I want to cook something for 20 minutes I can't. I can only tell it to be /done/ with rice at a certain time. It's fine for rice because it has those functions but not so nice if I want to use it for hard boiled eggs. Just to make any buyer aware, the time is set in military (24 hour) time and cannot be changed. I'd rather have the option to just set it for 20 minutes and be done. Yes, I can use the quick cook function and set an external timer but it's not what I prefer. For all that my cheap cooker had flaws, I really thought the ability to set the timer to what I wanted in addition to the rice pre-cook time was its best feature. Of course it didn't have a delay time to set it to turn on by itself, but I found that I didn't really need that functionality. Though, it would have been nice to have both. It is probably the case that a more expensive model that comes with a steamer function and a steamer basket has the coveted flexible timer ability. It's a shame because this is a wonderful machine and it doesn't seem to me that the timer needs to be designed the way it is. Overall, I highly recommend this cooker. You just have to decide if the timer is something you are okay with and if the lack of being able to set the machine to turn off when you want is something you can adapt to. I'd say if you are going to use this machine for rice only, its 100% designed for that and you won't have an issue. If you like to make hot cereal daily or like to use it to steam your eggs too, you might find the timer issue very tedious, so you might consider another model. ... show more

  • 14 years of service
Color: Beige Size: 5 1/2 cup
I bought this rice cooker in 2009 and wondered if I spent too much money. I did not! It is still going strong. I actually wore out the power cord about a year, but it was easy and cheap to order another one. Quality doesn't cost, it pays.
