I purchased this unit because I liked the brand from my experience with Zoeller in industrial applications ( I am an industrial maintenance manager). I also like the charging/monitoring system that came with this unit as compared to others. While I like the quality of both pumps and the charger, I cannot recommend the unit for the average homeowner because, in my case, the unit required replumbing to operate correctly and reliably. The problem stems from the check valve for the 12V pump. While both check valves in this system are not what I would describe as robust, the check valve for the 12v pump is terrible. It would not seal and would always allow water to trickle back to the sump from the discharge piping. While I could describe why this check valve is inadequate, I think that discussion is to long winded for this review. Regardless, this problem is something many online reviewers have commented poorly about and they are correct in their assessment. Zoeller customer service was very nice and they sent me another check valve flapper to repair the unit but this did not fix the problem because it is a design issue and can only be corrected with a new design. They offered to replace the 12V pump thinking it may have a plastic molding issue preventing the check valve from sealing but I elected to correct the root of the problem by eliminating it as I could not see any issue with the pump itself and thought I would inevitably end up replumbing the unit at a later date when the third repair attempt failed. The only benefit I saw with getting a replacement pump was that I would have a spare 12V pump assuming they didn't want he original back and if they did want the original back I would have had to waste more time packing and shipping it. While the manufacturer is quite content to send repair parts, this does not help with the most valuable and expensive part of repairing things, my time. So, I instead redesigned the plumbing using more robust check valves to solve the problem and that was the only reliable solution in my mind. Once having done so, I have a really nice reliable system with good quality pumps and a bullet proof plumbing system. My additional costs were about $40 for the check valves and PVC fittings. I purchased 2- 1.5" clear PVC check valves from amazon with the smallest form factor I could find, purchased various fittings to enable the most compact assembly possible, and built a discharge piping system that not only works better but also fits the crock (18" diameter) better. I replaced the entire factory piping system including both factory check valves and the only thing I reused was the 1.5" rubber coupling with worm gear clamps that connected the main pump check valve to the discharge assembly to enable the piping to be removed from the main pump without cutting. While this is not exactly difficult, it required much planning and consideration along with some expertise to make it all come together. In the end I had a great result and I really like the overall package now, but cannot recommend it to the average DIYer because of the complexity of the repair needed to correct the flaws. Hopefully Zoeller will reconsider their design and use more robust check valves that have a more traditional form factor that has already been proven to be reliable. Zoeller Products are excellent and last long. Unfortunately the package was missing the retainer pin that holds the magnetic float in place for the back up pump control. Other than that I would have given a 5 star review. Fortunately I had a finishing nail that I had to substitute for the stainless steel pin that was missing! I have professionally installed this dual pump many times and they have worked flawlessly for years. Just go to Walmart to get the Marine deep cycle battery for another $90 and you are complete.     • Two Defective Pumps!

Two defective pumps! The first pump arrived damaged AND defective. One of the three plastic feet that support the (A/C) pump was bent but not to the point of being broken. The A/C pump check valve was broken making it uninstallable. I had to make a trip to the store to replace it and redo the fittings to get it to work because it is not the same size as the factory supplied valve. While not an ideal configuration (the taller replacement valve made the backup pump set too high), after a couple of hours I was ready to install the pump. Bear in mind that in replacing the pumps a certain amount of new PVC drain lines need to be installed because every pump sits a little differently in the sump well so there is a fair amount of installation time every time you change the system. After getting it installed, I tested it. Water sprayed out from all around the base perimeter of the pump (no not just the air lock hole - as it should) I assume the pump was either not assembled correctly or something was wrong with the gasket. Either way it was defective and had to be replaced. While it did pump water out of the sump well, I did not want to keep a defective pump as it would have to run more frequently and have a shorter life at best. My next frustration was in arguing with Amazon/NYDirect (the vendor) that I needed a replacement pump to install before I could return the defective one. They insisted that I return the only pump protecting my basement from flooding before they would send a replacement! With much persistence on my part after several days they finally agreed to send a replacement first. The new pump arrived in about three days. After being burned the first time, I fully inspected AND tested this pump BEFORE installing it. The check valve arrived broken in exactly the same place on the replacement pump! While frustrating, as long as the pump didn't leak and wasn't defective I decided I could have them send a replacement check valve that I could install myself. So, I proceeded with plumbing in a test run of the pump in my sink. %#@%&**$!! It also leaked around the same seal as the first pump! It would have been an even worse leak if I had installed it because it would have had ten feet of head pressure on the pump. As I understand it, these are supposed to be %100 tested before shipping, so I'm puzzled as to how two defective pumps got out the door. I've now lost 1 1/2 days off work and much aggravation with what I thought was going to be a quality, trouble free pump. I almost didn’t go with Zoeller in the first place because they had a serious quality issue with bad switches not too long ago that caused their pumps to not come on at all. This pump is awesome the back up swivels allowing ability for adjusting. Drop it in clamp it your done! Very quiet too. ONLY ISSUE THATS WORTH NOTING ,,, In the box with parts is a tiny blue clamp plastic I almost lost it . When hooking up the battery charger to they battery you buy there is 3 pig tails. One each post and A SENSE LINE PLUG on the black chord coming from the pump is a tiny silver stud you put the plastic clip on it to plug into the connector coming from charger .. I luckily haven’t thrown out the box and found it in the bottom with trash going out !!!! Don’t lose that part!! They should tape it to the charger not loose in box. Great pump easy to install All you need is buy a deep cell battery. Figure out your pipe ( straight and elbows 1 1/2 inch get glue snd a cutter a marker and tape measure !!
