  • Impressive!
This has been my first experience with a motorized gimbal, so I will not be comparing it to other offerings. The package includes a pelican case like hard shell, and everything else that is listed in the contents section. My unit came with a grey Sony cable as opposed to black (it doesn't blend in well). After using it with my Sony a6500 coupled with a Sigma 16mm f/4 wide angle lens I was very impressed by the smoothness of the footage. The tripod stand is a nice and welcome addition, it helps tremendously when balancing the camera. I haven't come even remotely close to the maximum payload of 5.51 lbs which means I should have no problem mounting heavier lenses on my camera. I will soon be testing it with an a7iii and a Zeiss 16/35 f/4 lens (more to come on that). The only issue I am slightly concerned about is a subtle judder of the brushless motor when getting very low to take a shot then slowly rising to waist height. Also, the zoom control button on the gimbal makes a clicking noise which may be picked up by the cameras onboard microphone. I don't know if I have a faulty unit, or if that is normal across all copies. Hopefully, Zhiyun can reach out to me and address that slight problem. Overall it is a solid choice for a motorized gimbal at a fair price point. I would not hesitate to recommend it. I can't yet speak for the durability and long-term status but will update at a later date. ... show more

  • Great gimbal - can balance a Sigma 18-35 with some counterweight modifications! Check my video to see
The media could not be loaded. 2 weeks later and so far I'm pretty impressed with its performance. One of my main concerns with getting a gimbal was that it had to be able to balance the sigma 18-35 w/ a GH5 (my setup). Unfortunately it wasn't able to balance it without dropping the roll arm all the way down. If you do this, you can get it to balance but it's not a proper balance, and if you tried to use the pitch axis the gimbal would really struggle and just stop and reset. This bummed me out but I knew the Crane plus was capable of this load capacity (much more even) so I decided to try adding some counter weight to the back of the GH5. At first I taped an old battery from a canon camera to the back of the GH5 and with the additional weight I could lift the roll arm higher and still get a stationary balance. Now this also allowed me to move the pitch up and down. However, the gimbal was still technically not balanced properly because with the gimbal off you should be able to move it in any position and it will stay. So I decided to get some industrial strength velcro and put it on the back side of the GH5. The counterweights I used were 2x210 gram weights from my old steadicam. This makes the whole setup about a pound heavier but allows you to balance the gimbal very well without it being powered on. Still not perfect because it will not balance on the roll arm, but it will stay in any position for the pitch arm - check my video. The only other downside is that if you are using the joystick control for the pitch arm it does not stop smoothly (even when set to 200 smoothness) but rather abruptly and you can seen the lens do a small bounce. This is just the nature of having such a heavy lens! It looks bad if you're trying to achieve a cinematic camera movement. You can combat this in 2 ways. If you want to use the joystick then try this - as your moving the joystick in one direction quickly move into the opposite and hold for a second or so then let go. This will make the gimbal decelerate and come to a smooth stop. It's not easy to do and will take practice to get the timing right. The easier thing to do is to just put it in follow mode, no issues with the pitch, just super smoothness! Like anything it takes practice and I still need to work on my walking and grip of the gimbal but I believe it can get me all the smooth motions that I am looking to achieve. I feel that the dual grip handle bar might help a lot with steadiness so it will probably be a purchase I make in the future. Hopefully this information will help someone with a similar setup! ... show more

  • Efficient and Effective
When we first tried to get this gimbal to work, for some reason it wouldn't. My husband took it to work to mess with to see if it was us or the product; he turned it on and it worked. We're not sure what he did differently, but suddenly, it started to work. Both times we followed the instructions, maybe it just need to "rest" overnight before getting to work. Since then we've been able to use it with no problems. It can't really balance with extras, like a mic, on your camera. I would recommend this to vloggers, film students, or over enthusiastic soccer parents. I'm only a student and haven't worked with professional grade equipment, so I can't say if it's on par, but it gets the job done for my student films. ... show more
