This thing makes ice faster than our old Frigidaire brand one and it takes longer before melting within the basket as well so I think it's better insulated. If you add cold water to the reservoir, it makes a little bit larger pieces that take longer to melt than if you add room temperature water. Also, having had experience with countertop ice makers, I also rinsed it out well and let it dry completely prior to first use and that eliminated most of the plastic/metallic taste from the ice you get in the first few batches. Also, I highly recommend using purified or distilled water as tap water can cause it to clog with sediment. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would gladly recommend. ... show more

After our ice maker in our freezer broke and the part to fix it was discontinued, we purchased this to sit on our counter. Love it! The ice is the perfect size and it's super speedy. I do feel like I'm constantly refilling the water tank though - but we drink a LOT of water. I read the directions and filled the tank for the first ice. It wont suck up the ice and says I need to add water. I tried unplugging and plugging it back in, but it just keeps telling me to add water. I have a $100 doorstop now. YAY. Updated 08/15 I sent the unit back yesterday and received a notification that a refund has been issued. I am happy with the customer service and how fast they sent a refund, but I would still rather have ice. I probably won’t order a new one, but I appreciate the fast customer service. ... show more

Makes ice quick! This is our second one. We learned last time it’s best to use purified water as city water causes the machine to get nasty and was hard to clean. this ice maker works pretty good. once it’s done making ice (the bin is full) you have to manually reset it to make more ice, but other than that it’s great. makes ice pretty fast.

The cubes are bullet shaped, the basket is small so you will probably have to empty it twice for an average run. It took me all day to fill a 1 gallon ziplock bag plus 3 quarters of another gallon bag. I did as instructed before using and one of my complaints is that it took additional runs to get rid of the metallic taste plus you can’t leave cubs in the machine because once it has filled the basket it no longer keeps them frozen. I really like this it makes the ice fast but it doesn’t seem to make enough for two servings. If you’re using a lot of ice and the ice is very thin so it melts very easily if your drinks not already cold, best thing to do is to put the ice in a zip lock bag, put it in the freezer for later use
