I was hesitant to buy this for a long time because of the price but it is 100% worth it. I was visiting Sonic 3-4+ times a week for several extra large cups of ice before getting this machine and I'm so glad not to be eating their (often dirty) ice anymore. It makes perfectly sized and chewable ice. I don't love the ice immediately after it's made as it's a bit too hard and not crunchy enough, but after it sits for about an hour, it's so perfect and do delicious. It's easy to use and fits on my counter well. It does get a little noisy, especially when low on water, but it's not so terrible that it's not worth turning it on or anything. I received this product as a gift and was extremely disappointed when the first ice machine arrived and was broken and non functuonal. However, they were extremely quick and efficient in sending a replacement with minimal questions! The new one is flawless has been constantly running for about 3 weeks and it works great! I have made sure to do regular cleaning on the machine - I hope this causes it to work perfectly for a long time! Love the nugget ice, there is nothing better! ... show more

    • This machine is dangerously flawed. Three units - all bad.
The media could not be loaded. In less than two months I have gone through three of theses machines. They all did the exact same thing. Every few hours it would start making an obscenely loud hammering noise for anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. When the first one did it, I ordered a replacement. While waiting for the replacement, it stopped making the noise and seemed to work perfectly. I received the replacement and immediately cleaned it and got it running. The next day it started making the same noise. The first one was still behaving, so I sent back the replacement. A few days after sending it back, the first one became unresponsive. It would turn on, cycle the water and then shut off. It had only been running for a few weeks and I had only used bottled water in it, so it was NOT due to build-up. I ordered a third one and set it up yesterday. It immediately started with the same hammering noise every few hours, but I let it run to see if it would work itself out. Today it started making the noise and this time it was worse. I took the video and right afterwards it began to smell like it was burning. I immediately unplugged it and had to open the window. The right side was too hot to touch. There is obviously a design flaw. I am so lucky I was home and near the machine because I’m certain it would have resulted in a fire. An hour after unplugging it I wanted to get it dried out for packaging. When I drained the hoses, the water was hot. I just cannot trust another one. Edit: After several months of not having my nugget ice, I saw the machine on sale for prime day and decided to try it once again. I only had it running for 3 weeks and the pump went out. I was past the 90 day Amazon warranty due to being out of town. working with GE was a nightmare. After several phone calls and emails with repetitive requests for the same information I had just provided, they said they only replaced machines with refurbished ones. Ok, no problem… except the one they sent me looked like the previous owners had it for a year. It was dented, scratched, and had layers of calcium deposits around the dispenser, it hadn’t even been cleaned! I contacted GE again and sent them pictures and said this was unacceptable. They agreed to send me a new one this time. I have been waiting for 2 months now for the replacement. They said they were back ordered, but what they were doing was filling Christmas orders first. I have been without a machine for 6 months now. They won’t refund my money. I even offered to pay the difference to get the new model that came out right after I bought mine hoping they’d worked out the problems in the updated model. Nope. So I am now still waiting for my 6th machine and will only have a partial warranty on it. This has been one of the most regrettable purchases I have ever made. ... show more

Bought this my temp rental house had no ability to make ice in the old fridge. we live in hot summer place. purchased this unit it's the BEST ice! especially for smoothies and iced tea. get it and the side reservoir too! make sure you clean it. LOVE LOVE IT bought it on amazon prime day.

I have a spouse that loves to chew ice. But, she only likes to chew "fluffy, crunchy" ice. So, she saw a machine like this at work and said she wanted it for a Christmas and/or Birthday present. I think it's the best present she's received from me (much to my surprise). The ice really is fluffy, but chewable. She uses it daily. The ice takes about 10 minutes for it to get going, but it fills fairly fast so there's plenty more after 30 minutes total. I'll address the noise; it's loud if you live in a small place. We only run it to make the ice and we never leave it on. But, yes, it's a little loud. Not horrible, and definitely does not impact our 5 star review. The ice it makes is excellent, and it makes plenty of it. It may fall short for a large gathering, but for 3-4 people it keeps up no problems. It makes quite a bit of noise, and, as a counter top unit, that noise is projected all around the room, unlike a full-size refrigerator or a below-counter ice maker. Depending on the point in the cycle it goes from a noticeable, but not terrible amount of noise, to a loud whir and gurgle combination, to ridiculously loud screaming and grinding sound. When you get to the screaming phase, it needs water. It won't tell you it needs water for another 15 minutes, but it does, and it will quieten down once fed. It also needs to expel a lot of hot air out one side, the hot air was expected, of course, it is a tiny freezer, but it's one-sided-ness was not. While facing the unit, the right-side rear is the air vent and you do not want to block this. I had to relocate things a bit once I discovered that. I've had it going for 6 months now w/o issue, I use only RO filtered water in it, so no clogging or cleaning has been required. I have it on a schedule to run from about 8a to 10pm, and there's usually plenty of ice left if you need an 11pm drink. If power is lost to the unit for long enough, it will forget the schedule. WiFi would be better than BT, or at least BLE, the BT range is about 15', so it's only good for setting the schedules. WiFi ( and homeKit and/or an API ) would be a worthwhile upgrade, but hardly necessary. I did not get the external tank, will probably try to plumb it to the filtered water tap now that it's worked through at least some of the warranty -- as that will void the warranty. If you have more than a couple of people using it, the external tank is probably worthwhile, though expensive for what it is... ... show more
