This is a nice example of a traditional cast iron pan. It requires thoughtful use and care, but if you do so then you will be rewarded with exceptional cooking performance. As with any cast iron pan, don't leave this sitting in water or run it through the dishwasher. There are numerous online tutorials about the benefits of classic cooking with cast iron and instructions on how to season and care for your pan. The skillet was advertised as 6 1/2 inch but was only 6 inches in diameter. That doesn't seem like a big difference but is was enough for me to return it. It was just big enough to fry one egg!

I've only ever used non-stick frying pans until now. I've started cooking a lot more since retiring and Covid and have read so many chefs/cooks rave about cooking in cast iron. I always thought it sounded like it was such a pain to care for cast iron pans, and I am not great about the care of my cookware. I finally decided to give it a try and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I went on YouTube and learned how to season my pan before I used it. I think the most important thing to remember is do NOT leave it to soak in water, it will rust. When I clean mine, I put it on one of the stove burners on high for a few minutes and it dries completely. Every couple of uses, I use a very tiny bit of vegetable oil and a paper towel and wipe the inside with it. As of today, the pan is about $26 plus has a 20% off coupon, which I think is a great deal for a pan that will outlive me, and possibly the next generation! ... show more
