Update - Added pics to further show. May be a casting issue. Don't know, but will show how there's no material to hold the very thin gasket in place (photo 2). The leak may have not been caused by these gaskets but from the roof rail clips. There is a pending Class Action suit vs Toyota for the 2019. Upgraded from 3 stars to 4. Long story short. Just had to spend a grand to repair my Rav4 ECM. Water came through the front right mount and leaked right down on the Engine Control Module. Which shorts out the car's electronics. Also may want to add weatherstripping where the bars insert into the handles. Easy to install. Sturdy as heck. Just be careful of it not preventing water from getting in. ... show more

    • Terrible Smell out of the box, and tough to install - here are some tips!

Spent the first night trying to understand the instructions, and walked away from it twice. You might as well ball those up and toss them, but luckily it's not terribly complex. One thing I recommend out the gate is do not open the box indoors as the finished product has a terrible and strong chemical smell that gave me a headache. Here are some tips that will likely help you: 1. The end pieces have caps that come off. The instructions doesn't show this, I just happened to be looking at it and made the realization. This is the key as you have to have the caps off to get to the screw holes! Maybe I'm dumb, but it's what kept me from returning these after a night of frustration! 2. The screws are long and take an Allen wrench. It's included but I recommend a drill gun with a Allen bit attached to get them in 80% of the way. Just be careful, the black screws strip super easy. 3. The gaskets are garbage. They don't fit in that well, and the instructions say to tuck any remaining gasket in to hide it - they don't tuck but the part that shows isn't that noticeable assuming your rails are black. It's black on black, no one should notice a loose gasket. 4. The whole process - treat every screw like putting a tire on - don't tighten any one down all at once. You'll want the wiggle room. The hardest part is getting to the Allen bolts UNDER the bar once you have it on there. You'll want to have the loose enough to get the perfect fit, but close enough that you don't have to sit there and screw them in upside down - especially if in the hot sun like I was. 5. Be careful with the final locking mechanism. The "locks" are simple pieces of plastic with teeth, and I busted the teeth off one of mine. There isn't really much security here either, but putting these things on took 3 hours in broad daylight so I doubt any thief is going to take the time. The whole product is sturdy in it's final form, but on a piece by piece basis - be careful. I finally decided not to return mine when I went down to Toyota and saw their brand in person, and noticed that it looked no different then these cheap ones. As for paint, I've read some reviews that say it gets chipped, but I'd think they could be touched up when needed. All in all, it took me about 3 hours to install, but now knowing how, I could probably do it in less then an hour. They're on their now and seem to be super secure. The instructions say to take them off if going through a car wash, and that's absolutely absurd (these are never coming off by my own hand). Overall, when compared to the almost $400 Toyota wants for there cross bars, I'd say this is a steal. ... show more

Overall, very sturdy. My only complaint is that the gaskets are flimsy and too thin and do not provide any kind of seal between the rack and mounting cavity on vehicle roof.

I haven't installed the Roof rack on my vehicle yet because the gaskets that come with this product are pretty much useless to use. They are made of cheap plastic that is impossible to straighten out and get to lie flat. the manufacturer needs to ship them flat instead of the twisted and thrown into a bag. I will probably have to make my own out of rubber. The locking mechanism that holds the plastic covers to the metal roof mount brackets is just a plastic cam that is really stretching the definition of a lock. Overall this rack looks fine and I think the installation will be easy enough. It was a little cheaper in price than the others and will give me the option of carrying items on the roof of my RAV4. ... show more

First let me say I like the racks. They seem well made and look good. The mounting screws are excellent quality stainless steel. Following are my minor issues: a. Instructions are poorly written - at least the English version I received. They do suffice but with considerable effort b. There is no parts lists. Parts are not named. c. One of the cross bars, the rear one, had the “rear arrow” sticker pointing in the wrong direction. I could not get it to work as instructed and finally decided it could not be correct and then I turned it and it went together well. d. The round cap locks ( for lack of a given name ) are cheap plastic and one was broken. I have requested a new one. Meantime two black wire ties hold it well till the new one comes They are not structural so I can use it as is. Cosmetically it is hardly noticeable. e. There is no name or contact info in the instruction sheet - only a model number f. The plastic gaskets are very stiff in cool weather and difficult to unwind and install. If its a cool day you may need to heat them with a hair dryer to soften them up. Hopefully they will switch to a softer silicone rubber. Once I put them together, getting them on, the top of the car was a little challenging. The instructions are a little poor. The locking mechanism is garbage. I watched a YouTube video which really helped once I did that they were up in a half an hour.

These mount fine on my 2023 Rav4 but the locking mechanism is plastic and cheap. I broke a lip on turning coin that keeps the outer housing attached. I'm able to turn the coin in a direction to keep the housing attached but who knows if a bump or wind will blown it off.
