  • great buy for the money
Color: Lilac
great little ball winder for the money. Was really sorry to see it's currently "Unavailable". This is the second ball winder I have owned. The first one, my cats knocked off the shelf it was sitting on (counter space is often at a premium in my crafting area) and managed to hide / lose the little clamp thing that holds it to the edge of the desk. That wont happen with this one cause there is a bit on the end inside it to keep the clamp from completely coming lose. You do have to make sure to not lose the wing nut or the plastic "foot", but just grab a mesh unmentionables laundry bag from Dollar Tree to zip it up in and you're all good. I am an avid crochet / fiber artist (no it's not pronounced crotch-it-er no matter how that crazy woman on youtube says it) and have been using it quite a lot since it's arrival to tame the hug honking laundry hamper I have of left over yarn from other projects that have become an Almost impossibly tangled mess. It's been a life saver. I it ever becomes available again, it's lovely. Oh, I will say to turn the crank clockwise or the post it winds on can unlock itself. Found that out the hard way when I was going a good clip and it went sailing across the room, much to the delight of my cats. Also wind with one hand and let the yarn run through you lightly pinched fingers to control the tension or the ball will be insanely loose and oversized and it help let you know when you have a tangle so you aren't winding the tangle into the ball as it is. *thinks* Oh, and "jumbo" and "1 pounder" skeins will need to be wound into multiple balls so be aware. :) Enjoy! ... show more

  • Compact. Easy to Use. Highly Effective! Somewhat Addictive.
Color: Lilac
Relatively low-profile winder that clips and sits on a desk edge or some other edge you might put it on. Very straight-forward to assemble. Easy to wind once loaded. Creating a soft line of tension in your hand to feed yarn to the feeder will help make the ball a little tighter. But it will still load up pretty nicely even if the tension feeding into the unit isn't semi-firm. You wind up with a thick cake and a yarn feed from the center. The other end of the yarn will unravel quite easily as to be expected. I prefer to work from the center of the yarn as opposed to the outside, so I wound up (no pun intended) taking several yards of slack off the outside end and wrapping it firmly around the width of the cake to lock it down so I can feed from the center end. Quiet. Pretty fun to use. I almost enjoy winding up the yarn as much as I enjoy making projects. Finished cakes do look somewhat homemade; the crisscross pattern is somewhat loose relative to a machined commercial skein of yarn. I have zero complaints. The latching foot is padded and bound to the table by a wingnut. Feels very secure. The only wobbly bit is the yarn feeder arm, so take care to avoid excess strain on that bit to avoid it bending out of shape. But I'd imagine you'd have to pull it quite firmly to ever see any issues. Overall, excellent gadget. Glad I have one! ... show more

  • Very happy with my cakes!
This product held up to its name as a yarn ball winder. Relatively easy set up and deinstall; all parts were in working order. I was able to wind a couple of cakes of yarn in no time. At the time I got this product the price point was listed under $15 which is a pretty darn good price. Best of luck finding a comparable item at this price. Like the other reviewers, the unexpected bonus are the small yarn tools that came with the package (pair of thread/yarn scissors, stitch markers, pair of yarn needles). If you are new to the world of fiber arts, the yarn ball winder is an essential tool in spinning a ball (cake) of yarn from a hank of yarn. You will quickly know how much of a pain it is to ball by hand out of a hank of yarn if you haven't tried already as it tangles really easily. Using this ball winder will help save you time and frustration. Some handling may be intuitive, but I'd recommend going over the instructions a couple of times. Of course, you'll need to find your own yarn swift to complete this ball winding process. Overall, I'd recommend this product for what it is. ... show more

  • Works well
Color: Lilac
This is a great little machine with a couple of caveats. First of all, don't be lazy like me. Use the string guide. That's what it's there for!! I thought I wouldn't need it since I was only doing a small bit of loose yarn. I ended up having to unravel the yarn from underneath the mechanism because it had started wrapping under isntead of over and I didn't notice until it was already too late. That is 100% user error, or what we call a PEBKAC error in computer technology (Problem exists between keyboard and chair). The other caveat is to go a little slow until you're used to the cadence. It's set at an angle so that the string gets caught without tangling, at the level of the string guide, but that also means it has a little wobble to it. This is normal. But if it's not firmly attached to your table, or if you go too fast and you're unwinding a skein, and it hits resistance, it might fall off at that point. There's really not much more they could do about that unfortunately. It's a tradeoff between stability (which is good enough) and preventing your new cake from getting tangled (which is overall great). ... show more

  • Need a ball maker for your yarn or twine? Here ya go!
Color: Lilac
Ihave to say that this is genius!! I rolled all my yarn into balls in no time flat! It’s super easy to use and can connect to just about any surface so you can roll yarn, twine, whatever ya need to with this! Ya lay the yarn/twine into the top grooves and get to hand cranking! Now as a person who has a lot of yarn this takes me a ton of time compared to making the ball with my own hand and wrapping it around just to have it alll tangled up. And it takes up very little space on my shelves so I can see colors better. ... show more

  • Works great and saves a lot of time
Color: Lilac
My wife recently discovered C2C crochet and was in need of a yarn winder for some of her projects. This Nicpace yarn winder fit her needs perfectly. This little tool is easily set up and disassembled for storage until it is needed again. It does require a square edge under 2 inches and fit on our desk with no problems. It is a hand winder, which is what she wanted, and has worked very well at rolling several balls from 1 skein. ... show more
