This is a great way to teach children how to weave; however it produces a small potholder. In the photo, on the left is a potholder I made as a child. The potholder in the middle is one I made today using a more expensive kit with a metal loom and thicker loops. The one in the middle is what I was expecting. The one on the right is from this kit with thinner loops, plastic frame and a plastic hook. The colors of the loops in this kit are very pretty. Be aware that the included plastic hook has some sharp edges and also some rough spots that snag on loop fabric while in use. I had to remove the tool from a partly woven loop and smooth the rough spots before it was usable. Note that a nail file can do the smoothing.

This is a reasonable starter kit for weaving potholders, though the frame is not very sturdy, and the pins are a bit pointy and could break off easily. There is a good variety of loop colors, though some of them are small in size, and don't fit or don't fit easily on the frame. We could stretch some of them out, but using them might be a challenge and discouraging for some children. The hook is fine. Instructions are basic - a few more illustrations for kids might have been helpful. I had issues with the packaging. I had ordered 2 to give to two kids as gifts, but Amazon took one out of its box, so I received one box, and the contents of the other box. It probably made packaging a bit easier, but was confusing and not what I expected or ordered. This item is probably fine for use a few times, but I don't expect it to last long before it breaks. ... show more
