I'm the one who ordered this, but I'm not the one that will be using it luckily. It's heavy by itself. I don't think I could fill it with snow and lift it! Luckily I've got some strong men at home. Phew! Recently when I went outside I saw one of my snow shovels had pieces breaking off on the ground around it. Not a good sign. Then another one had a bend in it. We had a record breaking snow fall last year so they got used a lot. I figured metal is the way to go so it will last longer. The handle is a bar going all the way across and not just a little hand sized handle like most of them. So you can get a good grip on it. Luckily it has some rubber to hold onto. Otherwise the metal would be so cold. The edge is much better than my other shovels so it can get more of the snow off. But... it's heavy... I'll have to use the plastic one while one of the men uses this one. But it's super quality so we'll still be using it years down the road. ... show more

I already have a shovel that I have been using for several years that is extremely similar in design to this one, made by ManPlow. That one has a thick HDPE plastic blade that is 48” wide. It has been a fantastic shovel for my long driveway that snakes down a ridge for an eighth of a mile. The only drawback to that shovel pusher is that because of how wide it is, it can become difficult to push when the snow gets over a foot deep, especially with the heavy snow that we have in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. It is also sometimes a bit too wide to get around obstacles like vehicles and trailers. So, I decided I wanted to add a second pusher style shovel to my arsenal for the tight spaces and deeper snow and decided to give this Yard Butler version a try with its 24-inch-wide blade. This shovel is a bit stouter than my ManPlow, but it is also somewhat heavier with its all-metal construction at a hefty 14-pounds, which I guess can be both a plus as well as a con. It works exactly like my other pusher, and it is solidly constructed so that I am not concerned about bending or breaking it. The powder coated steel handle has a narrower diameter than that of my other pusher that has an aluminum handle, but because of the heavy gauge of steel it doesn’t feel like it will bend. The blade on this is also not nearly as tall as my other pusher at around 8-inches high, whereas my other pusher is 13-inches tall. I do wish the blade on this were somewhat taller so I could push a longer line of snow. Any other issues or cons? Just a couple. The instructions indicate that there are six #10-24 x1.5” screws, but there are actually pairs of three different lengths, so make sure you figure out where each set goes, or you may get to a spot and find you have screws that are too short. Don’t tighten down anything until everything is in place. I also had one screw hole that was misaligned and one that was not properly drilled all the way. Fortunately, I was able to correct the issues, but if you don’t have a home workshop or are not handy, then you might be so frustrated that you’ll want to run off to Burma like J. Peterman on Seinfeld. I shouldn’t have needed to do that on something new out of the box. I had no tolerance issues with my ManPlow. So, is it worth the price? I guess that is for you to decide. It’s somewhat pricier than the lighter yet larger comparable Manplow Pro version that I use, and this is made entirely of steel. The heft helps push heavy snow, but only when you have gravity helping you and not working against you. I’ll keep it and continue to use it, but I do wish the blade were a tad taller. ... show more

The Yard Butler Snow Plow Push Shovel is unique and will really move the snow. Assembly was not difficult, just make sure to correctly match the orientation of each of the pipes. The shovel is very sturdy with a wide plow for pushing a nice swathe of snow in each pass. The reinforced blade is made of solid metal that can easily handle the weight and density of snow. The ergonomic shovel design reduces strain on the back and shoulders. The long handle also provides excellent leverage to push through heavy snow with ease. Ugh I shovel so much snow. Seriously so much snow. I wanted so bad to love this. For $120 I was REALLY hoping to love this. But I don't know. It is SO heavy which is really good for everything except freaking snow shovels. I know this is meant for pushing and not scooping but man it's heavy. But that aside is not any reason for me to detract stars. For some reason the screws I was sent are SUPER long and there is a stopper on the nut that stops me from screwing all the way in. So all the pieces are together very very loosely. This snow pusher is really well made. The parts are all sturdy steel (not aluminum), including the blade which measures .110" thick! The parts are powder coated with a hammered grey-black finish that is way nicer than most any paint I've seen on decorative items - much less a snow removal tool. There are foam grips on the upper and lower crossbars too. The powder coat and thick blade will likely last a very long time before it wears out. Assembly was fast using a Phillips screwdriver, and a couple wrenches. There was excess powder coating inside a couple of the tubes that I had to trim away with a knife to get the tubes to go together - a bit of extra quality control needed there. I've used snow pushers similar to this in the past with lackluster results. Mainly because they were too wide, they couldn't handle any more than a dusting of snow before becoming too heavy to move. But this shovel is narrow (24" wide) and the blade is heavy so it doesn't skip up and over the snow. We've had less than 1" of snowfall so far to test it out, but this pusher worked okay to move light snow short distances (a car length) before needing to be lifted and dumped. To use, it works best to put one hand on the lower handle, one hand on the upper handle, angle the blade and walk the pusher along to push the snow off one edge of the blade (don't allow it to accumulate into a pile that you try to push). Then walk it off to the side. Repeat this process, moving snow across the surface, very much like scrapping an ice rink with a pusher shovel. But, this thing is no shovel. Because of its weight, it is VERY difficult to use it to scoop, lift, turn and dump snow like a normal shovel. Don't expect to lift any snow with it, especially if you have ANY sort of back issues. I haven't been able to test it in wet, heavy snow of any depth yet. But my initial impression is that it will work okay to clean small areas (sidewalks, small patios, small sloped driveways) of lightweight snowfall of 1" or so. The problem is, at $120 (price at time of this review) there are lots of normal push shovels that will do this same thing for a quarter of the price. And the hefty weight of it makes it more difficult to carry around and store. These are the reasons for taking off 1 star from the review. ... show more

So much easier than the previous plastic/other metal shovels we've used. It's much easier to get a good grip on this heavy duty shovel and does a far better job. Can easily use it to break up pieces that have melted together and is a more even shovel that does a better job than any shovel. Easy to handle and doesn't seem to cause as much strain on my back. Stores away easily and hope to get several years of use from it. ... show more

Immediately upon getting this box before I even opened it I was struck by how heavy the box was. This snow pusher is very solid metal, and solid metal is not light weight. This is so heavy that it’s not possible to use it like a regular shovel, it can only be used as intended as a pusher. And it works great for that, though it is still pretty heavy to push around. But that also means that it gets all the snow in one go, there is no need the majority of the time to go over the same area more than once.
