The new Yale fit in exactly the same doors as the existing deadbolt, so installation was a breeze. I did use the larger striker plate that came with it so that there was no resistance when locking (some deadbolts are hard to turn because the clearance is small). It works manually with a key, just like the old deadbolt, if needed. I have it (optional) set for automatic lock after 30 seconds, but I can see that could be a problem if you have guests that step outside and get locked out. This was the cheapest Yale lock I’ve bought and I’m unbelievably impressed. I usually expect good quality from Yale, but being a grade 3 lock, I wasn’t sure where they’d cut corners. One area is the buttons. They’re more like rubber-dome buttons, which is perfectly fine. They work great and feel premium, but they’re a step down if you’re used to the Assure buttons. The other area is the motor housing on the inside. The Assure line is all metal, while the inside portion of this one is all plastic. The outside portion is still full metal construction with a plastic face. Honestly, I don’t really notice any downgrade in the motor itself. It runs smoothly, seats firmly even with a slightly swollen door frame, and it’s fast. Time will tell how well the motor holds up, but the shank and all visible motor parts are metal, not plastic like cheaper brands, so that impressed me at this price point. The plastic interior box is something you stop noticing the minute the lock is installed. It looks great, runs great, and the install was a breeze. The captive screws on the motor body are a really nice touch. I wish they’d add those to the Assure line too. The backlit keys are bright, the speaker is clear and loud, and there’s a switch to turn the beep off if you prefer (I like it on). My only odd complaint is that the Yale button isn’t backlit, which is annoying when your door is in the dark like mine. You have to press the Yale button to lock and unlock, so you end up feeling for it even with the backlight on. Minor gripe though. Been using this for a few months and I like it. Easy to install, looks great and has operated well. Looks like it will hold up well but we shall see. I like the raised buttons. They are superior to the flat non raised ones imo.

    • Stopped Working After 2 Months

Stopped working after two months. It gives the 5-beep battery replacement notification but new ones don't fix it (and I tested both sets of batteries and they had lots of juice left in them!). I tried factory resetting it but that was also a "no." After factory resetting, it lets me key in a new code to set it but then the keypad will stop registering presses of the top few rows of buttons. Very disappointed. A positive is that it was easy to install... and then subsequently uninstall to swap it out for a competitor's replacement. If you're thinking of getting this because you want to save some money compared to another reputable brand, maybe don't and just get the other one from the start (because I ended up having to buy that other, more expensive deadbolt as a replacement anyway!). ... show more

The lock looks nice on the front door and the keypad is convenient for keyless entry. Basic locking and unlocking works fine when everything is lined up correctly. The problem is the inside dial is misaligned, and if it is not properly positioned, it will not trigger the auto lock. That makes the auto lock feature feel less dependable than it should. I have to double check it more often than expected, which defeats some of the convenience. Overall it is usable, but the alignment issue makes it feel like an average lock. ... show more
