This lock is awesome. My favorite features is that you can set it up to auto unlock your door as you are approaching. Hugely helpful if your are walking to your door with a handful of groceries. It works with bluetooth so i was a little worried i would keep unlocking my door as i get anywhere near it when in the house. But it is definitely a smart lock. You have to walk at least a couple hundred meters away form your home for a period of time for it to activate the auto unlock feature. All around great loc with so many features. Easy/Quick to install. looks great. works great with iphones. Can customize specific unlock codes for specific people, that are only to be used during a specific time interval. Lock was pretty easy to install but I ran into some issues due to the door I was installing it on. The lock would not show as locked although it was. Found the issue to be the hole that the deadbolt went into was not deep enough so the lock was still sensing it was open. I had to make the hole deeper with a hammer and flathead screwdriver. I also had to purchase a new door plate due to my door being a bit older. After all that the lock works great and integrated with Apple HomeKit easily. ... show more

Paid for professional installation and have had two units shipped (one replacement). Still not fully functional and Amazon not able to help me so they’ve instructed me to contact the manufacturer. I can lock the door with the keypad most of the time but it almost never responds to a hand wave like it’s supposed to. The big issue is the connectivity. Intermittent at best - I can ask Alexa to lock the door, if sends the signal and the lock is activated but then Alexa says the lock is non responsive and the August app says the door is unlocked. I also couldn’t get the Apple HomeKit to register the device. I work for a technology company and consider myself savvy. We have a google Wifi mesh network that’s on fiber and highly reliable. This thing is just plain buggy and I’m incredibly irritated that I’ve spent hours of my personal time alongside almost $200 in professional locksmith fees with about the functionality of what I had before. Update: Batteries have died TWICE in under 6 months, locking us out of our home on the latest. Still doesn’t connect to the internet reliably. Very much regret this purchase and want to throw it away but so much $ and time sunk into it. ... show more

This lock finally got it right. They problem I had with smart locks up until now is that the best software had lousy locks and the best locks had lousy software. This Yale lock solves the problem by making great hardware - a combination lock to Yale Lock standards. Then it has a slot to plug in your choice of software compatability. In my case I chose August since they were one of the first apps. Their module handles the connection to August's app and service. This finally solved everything. It connects to WiFi for remote control and Bluetooth so it has connectivity even if the wifi is down. It handles auto-open very well. First it's optional so you can turn it on only if you are in a place where it's safe. Second, it uses geofencing to detect location and opens when you come home. That solves the problem most Bluetooth locks have where they sometimes don't detect your phone. Kevo in particular has lots of complaints about that, which is why I waited. Third, you get August's full suite of app capabilities - adding guests, adding temporary codes, etc. all from an app with a great UI. Finally it supports Alexa or any other integration you choose. Product seems robust and well manufactured, and easy to use. The lock is manufactured by Yale and August (which I have never heard of until now) supplies the Wi-Fi integration components. That consists of a Wi-Fi module that plugs into the innards of the lock and a Wi-Fi receiver that plugs into your wall socket. I have to give a shout out to the excellent support that I needed to lean on when the lock would not report an accurate open/close status of the deadbolt to the app. I called August support and they eventually pulled in Yale support. The problem was that the deadbolt was longer than the deadbolt it replaced, and I had to drill out the receiving recess a bit more. After that, perfect! The product included a small accessory that attached to the door frame and allows the lock to report on the open/close status of the door. A small but powerful magnet is mounted to the door frame and when the lock is close enough to detect it, the status is closed. I chose not to install that because I didn’t have the 5/8” spade bit needed to flush mount the magnet and I have heard reports of premature battery depletion so I didn’t feel that another battery draining feature was worth it. I may change my mind later, but we have never had an issue with leaving the door opened. If someone forces the door open, it’s not clear that the app will send a notification. Now for the downside - fulfillment was a disappointment. The box arrived damaged, it looked like it was previously opened, and I ordered bronze but received black. To sum it up, the product looks like it has 5 star potential, manufacturers support gets 5 stars, documentation gets 3 stars (diagrams are ok, but not enough verbiage), and fulfillment gets 1 star. ... show more

Bought and installed for a customer. Had everything working great. Then she called Spectrum and they installed a different cable modem and router. Now nothing works. The customer figured out how to manually program it. It was not any failure of the lock. Spectrum just doesn't do site surveys. They modified everything to accomodate 4 TV's. Streaming TV works, Yale Lock and Ring Cameras don't. ... show more

The lock is robust and well engineered, but the unit comes with no instructions for the app setup at all. Spent hours trying to get yale access working, after calling support was told to use the august app as the yale access app is for canada only. The process to create an account kept sending me link rather than codes to validate email/sms. Once I got the app setup the lock was having trouble with the door sense module, the documentation for where to install it is wrong online as it says to install it 1 -1.5 inches below the bolt when it needs to be above the bolt. the software doesnt get any error codes from the lock you rely on the beep codes to figure out what's wrong (the nest version of the lock is much better with that). After setup the lock sometimes doesn't respond to the app over WIFI but works 100% via local Bluetooth connection. The number of settings you can control via the app is limited you have to use the lock menu to change most of the features. overall I expected more from yale and august with a history of great hardware and most functional software on the market. The integration of the two firms has created a product that's good not great, and a setup experience that the worst I've experienced in over a decade. ... show more

I bought this lock in 2018. Found it to be very easy to install and link to my google home. No issues with use. This last week the august connect stop working. I am well outside of my warranty period but I still contacted August to see if it was recoverable. Without me asking they volunteered to perform a one-time replacement for me.
