I just bought my second deadbolt after testing out one for a month. I love this lock! Some things I didn’t know before using it: you can lock it when you leave just by touching the fingerprint reader (it doesn’t need to read your print so it’s fast). The print reader itself works about 90% of the time on the first try - you have to press it harder than other readers I’ve used. I also love the auto-lock feature. As long as the door is closed it will lock after a user-specified amount of time. It adds a layer of safety when you are home as it will always lock the door. The install was very easy. I recommend flush-mounting the magnet in the door frame as it’s an eye sore stuck to the trim. It’s not color-matched to the lock. The app has a lot of settings that take a bit to get through. You can set multiple codes and change them easily. Multiple finger prints too. I’m putting my second Yale smart deadbolt on my cabin door so I don’t have to hide a key for guests. ... show more

    • Not Worth the Trouble

I strongly suggest you not buy this lock. I’ve lived with it for 9 months and am now removing it. This is a residential installation and the lock is used only 4;times per day. The first problem is the battery. It uses 4 non-rechargeable AA batteries. If they lasted awhile it wouldn’t be so bad. However, when using WiFi so you can access the lock remotely, the batteries last only 6 weeks. One of Yale’s solutions is to disconnect the lock from WiFi. That is, stop using one of the features that drew me to buy this model in the first place. Really, that’s your solution Yale? And even after disabling the WiFi access, you still get less than 3 months battery life. Also, the battery indicator in the phone app only shows battery charge when the battery is nearly depleted. The software is quirky and unreliable. The lock is supposed to detect whether the door is open or closed. At random intervals the system forgets these settings and you need to recalibrate the system so it can detect door open/closed state. The fingerprint reader works most of the time, but it usually takes 3 or 4 tries for it to recognize the print. On the plus side, the lock is easy to install and sturdily built. Initial program was quick and intuitive. On balance, this lock is definitely not worth the trouble and inconvenience. Maybe Yale’s other products are better. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. After one too many “hey, I forgot my house key” texts from my teenager this lock has been a game changer! Not only can you use your fingerprint, you can also set codes for the different members of your family so you know who is coming and going. Setting up the codes and fingerprints is super easy in the app. You can also check the app see if the door is locked/unlocked from anywhere and lock it remotely. I was even able to set up a routine on my Alexa device that locks my door every night before bed. I have been using this for a few weeks now and I have not had a single issue with the fingerprint scanner or any of the other features of this lock. Hardware is fine, and installation is relatively easy. But the application is not well thought out, and on Android phones it’s so glitchy that it’s completely unusable. I was not able to finish setup on an Android phone. It worked after several tries and resets on an Apple phone. The door sensor was a pain to install and did not work properly in the recommended place. On both Android and Apple phones it often reports the incorrect status of the lock, even if you’re standing right next to the door.
