  • Circuit board was wired incorrectly! I fixed it and added audio out.
The media could not be loaded. Installed on 2008 suburban ltz. I bought this after reading a review with a guide hack on how to get audio out working. As soon as I opened it up I notice the circuit board is completely different that the review had shown and no longer are there pins that can be used for audio out. Actually upon closer inspection there is a small connector on the board with a left and right audio +/-. I was able to do a horrible solder job and attach a aux cable to the right +/- and combined the left aux with the right to make mono audio out. Audio works and is good but light noise/static can be heard. When I attempted to turn it on by supplying B+ and ACC with power and the GND on ground I only got a black screen. I can get the dome lights to work and the power button is slightly red and when pressed all the soft touch buttons turn green. The screen stays black and for a split second I can very so slightly see the logo displayed. It is nearly zero back-lit and after it goes away the screen stays black. I've tried different power sources, a fresh battery with 14.2 volts and nothing. After messing with it I realized there is a connector called back light and they had a random super tiny wire soldered on the back of the board that should have been attached to a pin on the male connector. I crimped the wire to the pin and plugged the connector in and bam... Backlight is working! Who builds this stuff?! They didn't even have it wired correctly. After finding a ground/power/acc and my door light wires from my old flip down screen in my suburban I was able to wire it up correctly and everything works! Even ran an hdmi to my center console where I have a hidden fire tv stick and I ran an aux cable along side and plug it into my suburbans stock stereo aux in. Overall it looks like everything is good to go but I'll never get the 8 hours I spent working on it back. Stay clear, looks like it is a gamble if you'll get a working unit or not out of the box. If you don't you can attempt what I did and it might work for you. I'm just worried that this thing will die in the next few months. I don't trust it at all. ... show more

  • Won't even turn on
I've been sent two of these units, and neither work. Their behavior, however, is different, despite them not working. The first one, white lights turn on and soon as B+ is hooked up. And if I start the car car, those lights flash quickly. That's it, no other signs of life. The second one was obviously a return, as it had no packing material and was missing all of the screws. On this one, the lights would change if I pressed the lights button, things would flash if I plugged in a USB drive out pressed power, but nothing at all on the display. I've tested proper voltage and ground to the screen connections, and everything is good. Pretty disappointed in this product. UPDATE: The new item I was sent was indeed bad. The used item I was sent was actually good. I was attempting to run power to the device through the red wire on a video/power siamese cable, but it wasn't big enough. Once I ran a dedicated wire just for power, it booted up just fine. What I'm dealing with now is alternator/fan motor noise in the composite video picture. Turning the AC off gets rid of almost all of it, but that's not an option in Las Vegas. Playing directly from USB there is no issue, however, that's not how I want to use it. I've got composite video hooked up to my head unit to playback from USB there. I'm going to attempt to install a Pipeman's Inline Power Noise Supressor Filter on the power coming off the battery to see if it clears it up. A lot of people use them for audio noise, but I've heard of them clearing up the picture on backup cameras too. Hope it does this trick. Changing review to 3 stars. ... show more

  • Great quality overhead screen with a trick inside to get aux out ;-)
The media could not be loaded. Amazing flip down tv! I agree with others that this may not truly be a 1080p display, but it is super clear and has great picture and aspect ratio settings! The usb and sd can go beyond 32gb. Just format your drive to FAT32 (I used 64kb cluster size) and make sure your media files don’t exceed 4gb each. Windows 10 doesn’t format larger usb flash drives and sd cards to fat 32, so I downloaded Aomei Partition Assistant (freeware version) and that allows you to format any drive to almost any format. This player does not support drives formatted as NTFS or exFat from my experience. For those who reviewed usb doesn’t work, that may have been the issue :-) your drives 32gb or larger may be exFat formatted when purchased and that’s no good for this player. Now for many of us concerned about sound, let’s address the elephant in the room, Lack of Aux or Audio Out. Luckily I like to tinker and took this bad boy apart, SEE MY PHOTOS FOR MY WIRED AUDIO OUTPUT TRICK! Also try my trick at your own risk, know how to solder or show the pics to a professional installer that knows how to solder and is willing as part of your install. I can only confirm that this works for the Xtrons CM136HD 13.3”. Xtrons other models that are missing aux may have these same connections available inside, but I don’t know for sure. Make sure your connector matches mine as well, in case Xtrons decides to make revisions to their design :-) ... show more
