  • Well worth the investment
This is my second purchase ( the other one stopped working after letting it sit at the bottom of the pool un-used for several months during the winter). It works great for removing algae and small leaves on our 12x24 above ground pool. I have a dual stage pump and it works on both high & low speed. It doesn’t clean the walls but the circulation of the water pretty much does that. For the cost of going out to dinner, I cut 8 months of sweeping the pool labor down to basically nothing ... show more

  • Cleans pool like a pro
Cleans 6-8 hours a day in a free form pool, still going strong after a year. Better Than the $360 cleaners I used to buy every 3 yrs for years that end up costing $130 a year in parts after warranty runs out!

  • Not perfect, but well enough.
Not 100% perfect, but it works well enough to keep it. I ran it for 48 hours straight and there is spots it just refuses to get, but overall I will keep this as it does clean 80-90% of the floor. I like the fact that I can run it nonstop. No recharging a robot that doesn’t work anyway. This is way better than that robot I returned. ... show more

  • Lasting well
Works well however I bought 4 clip on hose weights to keep the hose under water so it doesn’t get caught in the corners by the steps. It will climb the walls pretty well. It takes some time to tweak the hose lengths and hose weight but then it works great.

  • Worked well for 9 months - Additional review
Did the job from mid-February until mid-November. Just not acceptable … I had hoped to get at least a couple of years’ use. The manufacturer of this product has been totally unresponsive. However, the seller (ihubdeal) promptly replied to my inquiry and honored the warranty by quickly sending the parts that failed. I give ihubdeal a FIVE STAR RATING, but unfortunately this product & its manufacturer (Xtemepower) have earned only a one star .... ... show more

  • A very flawed pool cleaner
I've only been using this cleaner for a few days but it does a great job and I was thrilled to find this generic version for only $96. It arrived only 3 days after my order, ahead of schedule, was pretty easy to assemble. After spending four times as much on three other pool cleaners that each lasted only a couple of years, if that, I am optimistic about this one... It only has one moving part (vs. dozens in the others) which means less chance of breaking down and its brand name cousin has a good reputation for longevity. Another reviewer claimed you need a 2 HP pump. That is incorrect. The manufacturer calls for a minimum of 3/4 HP which is correct. UPDATE: This cleaner worked pretty well until a few months ago when the winds picked up and leaves blew into the pool. It doesn't take much to stop it in its tracks, one or two leaves will do it, and it becomes incredibly frustrating to have to clear them out several times a day. I don't have time for this so it sits stuck in one place until I have a chance to turn off the suction, pull it out of the pool and remove a leaf. Other cleaners I've used occasionally needed to be cleared of debris, but never at the rate that this one fails. And I use a leaf rake to remove the heaviest build up of debris, to no avail. Another issue is that it follows the same route around the pool leaving large swathes untouched for several days. I've experimented with various levels of suction and haven't found a way to improve its performance. It's true that you get what you pay for, and I will have to pay a lot more for a better cleaner. ... show more

  • I love this generic Kreepy Krauly - but I did have to make one small fix!
I bought mine in May 2014 and have been very happy with it. I've never understood why the name brand pool cleaners are so expensive - $350-$400 in my area, and the parts are also expensive, all for a bunch of plastic and rubber. The kit came with all the necessary parts - the cleaner itself, the hose sections, the hose weights, and the pressure regulator that allows you to adjust the water bypass at the skimmer connection. The hose sections are the same size as the ones you can buy for a Barracuda or Kreepy Krauly at your local pool supply store. One guy at a pool store told me they only expect them (the name brand ones) to last about two years, so if you believe that you'd spend about $175-$200 per year on average. I figured that for about $80-$85, I could buy one of these every year if necessary and still save money! I did run into one problem though and it took me a while to figure it out. It may be a coincidence, but once the water got cold all of a sudden my generic Kreepy Krauly wouldn't move when the pump came on each day. The flapper seemed to get stuck against one side. Interestingly, if I reached into the water and fiddled with the flapper with my fingers, I could get it moving again and then it would run for several hours until my pump cycled off. But the next day when the timer started the pump again, it wouldn't move again until I started it manually. I did all the usual fixes - I made sure the pool was backwashed and the pressure was correct. There was no debris inside the head obstructing the flapper, or in any other part of the cleaner. There was plenty of suction - obviously that wasn't the problem because once I started it manually it would run just fine. After much trial and error I finally figured out that the baffle plate was rubbing against the flapper, just barely, but enough to keep the flapper from starting to move. It always got stuck against the same side where the screw holds the baffle plate on. All I can guess is that the flapper is mostly rubber and expanded just the slightest bit now that the water is cold. One side of the baffle plate is held with a screw, and the other side is held in place by two small protrusions from the plate that fit into holes in the cleaner head. The holes allow the baffle plate to move up and down just a little bit on one side, maybe just 1/8", but the other side where the screw is cannot move. I tried loosening the screw, but the suction just pulled the plate against the flapper. So I finally hit on the solution of putting a small washer under the baffle plate, held in place by the screw. This lifts the baffle plate just enough to keep it from rubbing up against the flapper. I bought a stainless steel washer at my local hardware store so that it wouldn't rust. The screw that comes with the Kreepy Krauly is also stainless steel. I have posted photos of the fix with this review - I hope it saves somebody else some time! In the picture the screw is not tightened all the way down yet, just for illustration purposes, but I did tighten it snugly against the washer before I put it back in the water.
