Look, I bought this for the purpose of reprogramming a Body Control Module on a GM vehicle. I also have other branded vehicles, so I saw this as an investment for future programming endeavors. I was between the TOPDON RLink and the XTOOL XTS500. Having owned other XTool products, I decided to give this one a shot. Huge mistake. Now, the presentation of the product was great, the box was premium, and it included a Bluetooth adapter, an OBD2 extension, and even a lanyard. The physical pass-thru felt solid and appeared premium. To get this tool to work, you need to download XTOOL's J2534 driver toolbox onto your laptop. From there, you connect a USB-C cable from your laptop to the tool, which then connects to the car. In theory, you should have no problem connecting to whatever OE software you're using. I was using SPS2 and Tech2Win from Techline Connect. Now, let's say you have an issue and want to test if the tool is identified by said software. The idea is that since the product is connected through USB-C, you'd assume that it also gets powered through that port, in case you wanted to test it out before taking it to the vehicle. Wrong, absolutely wrong, the pass-thru is solely powered by the OBD-2 port. This means that any connection issue with the software must be resolved when the device is connected to the car. This might not have been a dealbreaker if it weren't for the fact that this product just doesn't work. I spent hours outside in the heat trying to get this product to work to no avail. The tool was successfully able to connect to the vehicle using SPS2, but failed every single update, regardless of module, due to a "Reprogramming Error". Another module couldn't even be read. For Tech2Win, I tried for hours to get it to connect, but the software was unable to see the tool. I genuinely thought I was an idiot since, at the time, the posting clearly stated that Tech2Win worked. I was losing my mind, so I decided to contact support, thinking it might have been a driver issue or something. After a discussion with support, it turns out that Tech2Win isn't even supported, despite being advertised as such. So at this point, a refund was the only acceptable resolution. Now they've since updated the posting and removed the picture advertisement of Tech2Win, although the picture is still available on their official XTOOL store for XTS500. Now, I still need to update the BCM and perform some updates through SPS2, so I ended up buying Topdon's Rlink. Let me tell you, that tool actually functions and is able to do everything that XTOOL's XTS500 couldn't. No problem updating modules through SPS2 and Tech2Win was able to identify TopDon's Rlink within seconds. Best part, the whole tool is powered through USB-C and not solely reliant on the OBD2 port. So please do yourself a favor and do not buy this product. Buy the Topdon's Rlink or some other tool, but please save your sanity and buy something else. All the R&D money must have gone to the presentation and nothing to the actual software.

Well it says on the information to run GM techline direct and download SPS you need Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10 and GM techline direct says that the laptop x tool says will work will not so be advised you need to have an i7 iCore You've got to have $500 to a terabyte of memory you got to have Windows 11 professional and a gigabit internet connection which frankly most people don't have and can't get so if you're buying it for GM unless you have these things it's useless so don't purchase the software before you double check your laptop specs I will be sending this back cuz I'm not buying a laptop a scan tool and paying for the GM software sorry if you got to do it that way it's cheaper for me just to pay GM to do it

Seal was broken on box on arrival, didn't think it was a big deal, but: Very disappointing, great packaging, looks like everything you need, even software looked ok, but, plug it in and I get.... Nothing. No lights, no indication that it's even on or working. Tried to update firmware, plugged into PC, doesn't detect at all, not even unknown device. No response whatsoever , baffling.

Did not work at all and fried my trucks tcm and I had to pay twice and get another reprogrammer and a new tcm for my vehicle because of this tool... would never buy one of these ever again

As an independent auto repair technician, I'm very demanding when it comes to diagnostic tools. This XTOOL J2534 VCI device has completely exceeded my expectations. I mainly use it with Toyota and Ford's official software (Techstream and FJDS) for programming and key module matching.
