  • Worth every penny
The media could not be loaded. I’ve been a professional mechanic for years and I’ve worked with everything from basic handheld OBDII readers to higher-end dealer tools. I picked up the XTOOL IP909BT because I wanted a wireless bi-directional scanner that would cover my wholesale cars and customer vehicles without breaking the bank. After using it for a couple of weeks, here’s my honost review..The IP909BT came well packaged. The tablet itself feels solid with a bright, responsive touchscreen and decent weight, battery life is great and it is really solid. The wireless VCI is small and plugs right into the OBDII..I did forget it was plugged into a vehicle a couple times so I taped a lanyard to it to help me not forget to unplug it. Setup was straight forward, hook it to wifi and update all the manufacturers supported by the tool (which is almost every vehicle ever made that supports obd2, which is nice), took about 20 minutes to have the scanner ready to go. The tool supports a wide range of service functions like injector coding, battery registration, SAS calibration, EPB reset, ABS bleeding, and more. Ive used it to perform rear brake replacements on multiple vehicles with electronic parking brakes that need to be put into service mode, performed steering angle sensor relearns after clockspring replacement, and was even able to recode a used abs module for a Volkswagen to get rid of all the fault codes which was suprising. I did have an issue trying to get into a module on a newer ford mustang that was not listed as an option in the tool, I contacted customer support and they helped me out right away and sent an update over the next day which took care of the issue. For the price point, the coverage is impressive. Scanning speed is quick, a full vehicle scan takes under 2 minutes on most cars. Live data refresh is smooth, and graphing multiple PIDs at once is easy. I like that I can overlay graphs to compare sensor readings in real time. Overall, I’m really impressed with the XTOOL IP909BT. It hits the sweet spot between DIY scanners and high-dollar professional units. For my work on wholesale cars and general customer vehicles, it does 95% of what I need. The wireless function alone makes life easier, and the bi-directional controls work as advertised. If you’re a shop owner, mobile mechanic, or even an advanced DIYer who wants more than a basic code reader, this tool is a fantastic value. ... show more

  • Very capable scanner for shade tree mechanic and diyers
This is the second scanner I have bought from xtool, and for the price to performance ratio I would bet there isn't a better brand out there. I really like that the communication with the vehicle is Bluetooth and has no cable hooked to the VCI, it's just a Bluetooth dongle that plugs into the OBD2 port and wirelessly connects to the tablet style scanner. The bi directional interaction is great when trying to pinpoint issues. I was able to stand out side of my truck today and activate the headlights, turn signals, and brights with a few touches on the screen. The amount of services provided is excellent too, it has more options than a guy like me who does work on my own vehicles as well as friends and family. I have used a few other scanners from other way more expensive brands and I feel like the xtool is easy to navigate with the touch screen and the menu style is fairly easy to find the options you are looking for. The speed is plenty fast, but I can't compare it speed wise to the other scanners because they are 3-5 years old and we know how fast technology advances. I have no complaints in this department, if I press a button to active something it instantly does the job and refreshes on the screen. I also really like the way they setup the report on these scanners, it allows you to enter your shop's credentials and clearly shows the scanning report with any of the issues found at the bottom. I also like the fact you can send out the report via email to your customers that clearly shows any problems. You can also print them out wirelessly if desired. Another thing that I REALLY like is the integrated stand on the back, this makes placing on the dash or over the steering wheel very easy. It can also work as a handle for easy one hand gripping. My other xtool doesn't have a stand but has screw holes for one to be added, if it becomes available for purchase I will be grabbing that. The charging on this is simple too, takes a USB type c on the top of the unit that is under a rubber plug that is inserted after charging to keep the port safe. This scanner has the ability to be used with their proprietary borescope as well as a camera to snap pictures that can be used to remember where certain things belong under the hood or under the dash, it's a nice feature that people who are forgetful will like. Back to the borescope, I can't comment on how well it works but I am interested to get it and test it out, to see how the picture quality, lighting ability, and flexibility is. Now to a couple things that I wish were different or could potentially be changed. The first one is this unit doesn't have the topology viewing which is not necessary but after having it on my other xtool scanner it's my preferred way to use the scanner. It makes it easier to understand and explain to customers that want to see their vehiclecs issues. It give a visual representation of the modules scanned and if nothing is found it goes green, and if it turns red it shows the issues. And one other minor finding that may be on all brands of newer scanners, is that if a function is not supported I would like for it to either not be visible or be grayed out and not able to be selected. For instance newer Ford trucks require a parking brake programming to changed the rear brakes, this scanner can do that function but on my 2014 this is not needed. But on the scanner I can still select it but it then takes you to another screen with a popup that says it's unsupported. This is not a huge deal but some vehicles just don't allow as much stuff as other so if it was blocked out it would make doing things you wanted a little easier. Overall I really enjoy this scanner, it hefty and feels well built. I would recommend it to someone who works out of their garage and needs to be able to access and active many options on vehicle. The manufacturer list is huge for the automobiles available. This can do many of the things the scanners at the dealerships can do without the cost or the hassle of taking your vehicle in. I will keep this review live and active with updates as I have more time to use it. I know the developers push out many updates to fix bugs and to make the devices better. ... show more

  • Disappointed and Not Worth the Hype
I tried the XTOOL IP900BT on my Infiniti, Chevy, and BMW, and the results were frustrating. Many functions were unstable or didn’t work as advertised, and the so-called advanced features like ECU coding and PMI were unreliable at best. The WiFi connection kept dropping, making diagnostics slow and inconsistent and the unit took an unusually long time to charge. For the price, I expected professional quality, but instead, I got an overhyped tool that falls short. Definitely not worth the investment. ... show more

  • Fantastic and intuitive user interface
The media could not be loaded. The xtool is great for getting into diagnostics and troubleshooting fault codes. It has a ton of features built in and great support from the company. It even has ability to remote connect via team viewer for pro level support. There's a camera for documenting problems and for recording how to put things back together. The wireless OBDII toll worked flawlessly for my 2021 bmw and 2019 Ford. You can generate professional level reports and email or print them all from within the tablet. I was able to save a few hundred by buying my own battery for the BMW and programming it myself rather than having a shop do it. It made the process easy. It's the same tool a lot of people recommended on YouTube for my car. Now that I'm out of warranty it will only take a few more maintenance DIY days to have more than paid for the tool. ... show more
