This is the best scan tool I have used, The topology view makes it far easier to get an overall view of system faults. It is much faster than any others I own and the extended free updates make it well worth the price. Right out of the box it supports a lot of functions on practically all vehicles and seems to receive updates pretty much daily. The wifi wireless dongle allows you to take the tool under the hood to view live data while at the engine. It also is very fast and has a very long range, I've taken it over 50ft with no problem. It comes in a very nice carrying case that feels ruged and high quality and holds the tool as well as the accessories included. I've also found the diagnostic reports it creates are very well laid out and professional looking, It actually lets me send them to my printer indoors directly from the tool in the parkinglot. I have been impressed by the battery life, I've used it for several hours at a time and it still keeps nearly a full charge. The size and shape of the tool make it very easy to hold and the kickstand on the back is oerfect, not flimsy like some I have used. I wanted a tool that would let me not only scan and analyze literally EVERYTHING in our vehicles, present and future, but would also allow me to change features, add new stuff, and make a service record for each one - and this tool does all that. But first, a word about something VERY important: Customer support and communications. Before I bought from this company, I looked at dozens of reviews for this and other companies, and it seemed as though the negative comments centered around poor or no customer service. Not so with XTool. They've answered every question almost immediately, many on the same day. I sent them the VIN numbers for all of our vehicles, ranging from Dodge to Jeep to Hyundai. They verified that this tool would work with them and they did it right away. I've already received over 100 free software updates, many for American made cars. And they just keep coming. Dealer service mode? No problem. The D8BT will let you perform service tests that you thought only a dealership could. I immediately checked/recalibrated the HVAC door actuators, tested the audio system, and changed several settings in the ECU to change things that I found irritating before. Check out some of the pictures. The information given on some of these screens is stuff that normally requires very expensive test equipment to obtain, and a lot of time to connect the equipment. If you're a small shop or backyard mechanic, this tool will be gold. I've already used this to locate and correct issues with three of our vehicles, and some with friends' cars also. I have yet to experience a rude surprise. A couple points: If a control module for a vehicle that you're working on doesn't support a particular Special Function, you can't change it. You'll get a screen that says "The selected Function is not supported". Also, American made vehicles won't let you disable the engine stop-start feature, although many foreign cars will. However -- it DOES recognize the aftermarket MPC Remote Start and the PAC aftermarket backup camera systems that I bought here on Amazon. That's a pleasant surprise. They both work great so I didn't need to change anything, but it's nice to know that they're "in the loop", should it become necessary. I haven't had a single instance where the Bluetooth connection was glitchy, or the D8BT failed to auto-identify a vehicle automatically. So I'm happy! My only complaint it with the case. The unit is held in place with Velcro straps under foam, which doesn't last long. I'm working on a solution for this. There's a full 16 pin OBD2 male to female extension flat ribbon cable sold here on Amazon that works great with the Bluetooth dongle supplied with the D8BT. It makes reaching hard to reach or "backwards" ports easier to connect to. UPDATE (2.23.23): I just made a key for my son's 2016 Jeep Cherokee. Boy, was that easy! It took all of 2 minutes. All key functions work perfectly, including the remote start. That saved me about $200 in dealer's fees. ... show more

I purchased the D8W Scanner and I don't regret it. I have not been paid or asked to make a positive review in exchange for a free product. I am an Amazon buyer and more than a DIY mechanic that work on all of my family and friends cars and so, I had the opportunity to test this machine on a variety of vehicles from diferent manufactures and models as well as to compare this tool with others competing in the same market. I put together a few thought to help you get a detail view of what this product can do for you and so, make it easier for you to decide if it's right one for you or not. 1- The topoly feature on this scanner (D8W) is fast and, can only be obtained from XTOOL on this price range. No other scanner in the market offers it for less than $900. 2- The D8W comes with an 8" display again, something you can get from other stableshed brands of manufactures of Auto Scanners but at a higher cost. 3- Don't think that you are buying a flimsy and cheap product because it is affordable, this scanner feels solid.and it weights more than any other unit I had the opportunity to test/try of this size, assuring the buyer they are buying something durable and well made. 4- Across the market of wireless OBD scanners, many people complaint about miss/lost communication between the wireless OBD2 adaptor and the main unit but, till now, it hasn't happen to me, what leads me to believe your product does not have that issue and the connection between them is very stable. 5- Compared to other scanners on this price range, the UI is simple enough for anyone to use and even known, sometimes you have to play/look around to get to what you are looking for, if does offer a fair amount of choices and information to get the job done. 6- It comes with 3 years of free updates. At $199 a year, it's a hello of a bargain. 7- The frequency of updates provided to the D8W, is like no other manufacturer in the market. Like I said before, I not only had a few makes and models of both scanners and automobiles on hand to test them but also the time and interest to do it, and none of them had updates every week or almost daily like XTOOL do. I concider it a good thing because, it.is proof they are.working constantly to improve and maintain their product up to date with the latest software. 8- The battery, as long as you turn the unit off, like I do when you are done using it, will remain at the same level and will nor drain on its own. 9- You don't have to add your email to the device in order to be able to use it like you do with other manufactures. This simple thing avoids the multiple emails to fill up the device-storage and also the annoying notifications and remaining of them. 10- The D8W has a bilt in speaker. Yes, you may be surprised with this statement but, I had a well stablished brand scanner that didn't have one, making the feature of auto web search weak and sometimes unusable because is very hard to desifer what people are saying on a YouTube video if they are not speaking directly into the camera. Granted, not everything is perfect on this unit and, I m going to tell you about it too. If you are a professional mechanic that deals with scanners and work on the Fiat/Chrysler brand, you will now the TPMS issue is the number one complaint amount this family of automobiles. I believe they can sell this scanner for more money if they were to concider making a few minor adjustments/improvements to it. 1- My screen is not too bright and hard to see outside during the day when exposed to direct sun light. I confess, I haven't remove the screen protector that came installed on top of the screen yet and, I am almost sure must of the screen glare will go away once I do it. 2- The trouble codes have a brief description next to it but, if you want to get more info, you will be directed to the web using the tablet's web browser Google Chrome". You won't have to remember the codes numbers because, the machine will do an auto search on the subject to make it easier on you, the user. 3- The TPMS feature still very basic, I beleive a grafic UI can be shown with the tire pressures, temperature, sensor ID and battery status of all 4,5 or 6 tires, on a single screen to make better sense and understanding of the system functionality and how the computer is receiving/reading that information. I am incredibly impressed with the XTOOL D8W. I originally bought it hoping to tackle a few specific issues that usually require a trip to the dealership. I'm happy to report that it handled everything I threw at it. My main project was programming a new TPM sensor. The dealer wanted a significant chunk of change just for the service, but the D8W guided me through the process, and I successfully programmed the new sensor to my car without a single hiccup. Beyond that, I was amazed at the customization options it unlocked. I was able to dig into the settings and customize various remote functions, such as rolling all the windows down when holding the unlock button. These are exactly the kinds of "dealer-only" customizations that you're normally stuck with. For any serious home mechanic or DIYer, this tool is a game-changer. It's already saved me time and money by letting me skip the dealer appointment, highly recommended. Update: for clarity, the TPMS work I performed was to add a new Toyota sensor to the spare tire. I swapped out the steel wheel for a matching alloy wheel and had a new tire installed with a Toyota sensor. These come pre-programmed with a sensor ID. A simple ID registration step was needed to program the 5th empty slot on the 2015 4Runner. The D8W scanner makes everything easier and saves time, The Wi-fi interface is super-fast, I actually think it is faster than a wired connection. I have Bluetooth scanners and they are 3 times slower than my D8W, the D8W is fast, plus the new AI features are great, you can have AI research your specific error code and it will provide great suggestion on the next steps you can take, or you can simply select the lookup code option and it will do a google lookup on the specific code giving you more than enough information on your P-Code. I love the special functions, with my newer cars doing my rear brakes is a breeze, very easy to set the rear brake pad to Maintenance mode, change the brake pads, and then set to normal mode, made my life easier. I was also impressed with the refresh rate on the screen when you do live data, there is no delay. Using the graphing function in the live data I was able to test the drop voltage on my battery and the charging voltage on my alternator, I posted it on my video for reference if you are interested in seeing. Another feature that I find extremely helpful is the topology feature, you can quickly see what module has issues, great feature. This is a full bi-directional scanner that allows you to control individual components in your car, no need to remove a part to test individually, if the component is supported then you can turn it on or off directly from the D8W, keep in mind not all components are supported for all vehicles, there is no tool that offers that support, that being said, the D8W is a full system scanner for high-end diagnostics. ... show more

Tool review I don't normally leave reviews, but I have to leave a review for this tool. First off the design and build quality of the tool are excellent. The interface is easy to use and I really wanted to like this tool. It is the only tool that offers topology at this price range now for the issues I have been diagnosing Automobiles for 30 years. I own a snap on P 1000 a Mac MDT 10 and Autel MS 906BT a Kingbowlen K7 and a think car think scan 689bt and numerous handheld OBD tools so I would consider myself well-versed on how these tools operate. The first day I went to use this tool was on two Chrysler products 2018 and newer, I have registered this tool with Auto Auth, this tool will pick up the VIN number but will not communicate with the vehicle any vehicle modules It does not give me an auto auth login screen or any way to confirm it on the tool. The third vehicle I tried to diagnose was a 2013 Ford edge a simple test to activate the canister vent solenoid. The tool would not perform this basic function. I checked with two other tools and the solenoid worked as it should, now anyone that has diagnosed an electrical issue knows that this could've have sent me down a rabbit hole if I had not checked with my other tools. I sent an email to the company Tech Support on the address given to me on the tool under the support tab five days later still no response. I contacted the seller on Amazon directly (the seller was XTool the company that produced the tool) and theyresponded a day later telling me they would forward this issue to their tech-support because they had never received any emails from me. Five days later still no emails, When I am diagnosing customers vehicles, I have to get the vehicles in and out in a timely matter so if I contact customer support, it can't be a day to five days later therefore I am forced to return this tool to Amazon . Like I said before I really wanted to like this tool and add it to my diagnostic tools because of the topology. But unfortunately I cannot keep a $700 tool that doesn't perform basic functions and does not offer a quality technical support. ... show more

Overall, this scan tool is a good value when you compare the purchase price, the capabilities, and the fact that you receive three full years of updates. Most competitors only offer one year of updates, or possibly two at the most. While there are many pros, there are also some cons as addressed below. Pros: 3 full years of updates. Bi-directional control of components (this will vary based on your vehicles capabilities). Latest update added topology scan option. CAN FD Bluetooth adapter. Main screen is very intuitive and provides easy access to all the main menu options. Can send reports via email using Xtool servers without setting up the email app. Suppose to have the ability to Wi-Fi print to your online printer; couldn’t find my printer. Has both 2.4 and 5GHz wireless connections. Excellent and responsive customer service support. Cons: The biggest con with this scan tool is its live data recording function. There is no way to set an automatic trigger event to start recording a parameter that is above/below a threshold. You cannot flag a point in the recording if you detect a problem while on the road test. Perhaps the worst aspect of the recording function is that there is no way to quickly fast forward through what you recorded while looking for abnormalities. Your only options are to advance frame by frame or watch the whole recording. I went on an approximately 7-minute road test while recording 8 parameters. This data event resulted in over 20,000 frames that you would have to either manually advance through one by one or watch the whole recording in its entirety. This is not practical or efficient. Xtool should mimic what Autel has done with their data recording by incorporating automatic trigger recording, flagging anomalies, and most importantly incorporating a slider bar that you can use to quickly skim through the whole recording; see comparison photos (Xtool is 1st, Autel is 2nd). I have had issues with mileage populating as kilometers even though U.S. units were selected, and even then, the km reading is way off from what a converted mileage would be. I was not able to Wi-Fi print to my printer as the scan tool could not find my printer on the same network. You cannot expand the storage by adding a Micro SD card to the tool. There are some grammar errors with the translation that could be confusing. Overall, this is a good product and worth the price. Xtool’s customer service is excellent and very responsive to inquiries. However, if you rely heavily on live data recordings for your diagnostics, this scanner completely fails at providing a usable platform for that capability. ... show more
