With so many OBD-II scanners on the market, it can be a daunting task to select the right tool. My approach was to consider a few factors, all of which culminated in my decision to go with the XTOOL D7S. -Factor 1 (Support): Not all scanners can perform every diagnostic function for all vehicles. Thus it’s important to verify your specific vehicle(s) with customer service as the first step in order to determine whether or not the tool can do what you want it to. -XTOOL excelled in this area of support, they were the only scanner company out of 8 that replied to my email inquiry within 12 hours. After establishing contact with XTOOL, my follow-on inquiries were answered by “Jenny” in just a matter of hours, even on the weekend. They were honest and informative. -Factor 2 (Diagnostic Capabilities): I was experiencing intermittent drivability issues on my 5.7 Jeep. Loud clunking sounds at low speed, loss of forward momentum (felt like the driveshaft was disconnected), dash lit up with traction control and ABS lights and a warning to service the ABS and 4x4 systems. -The D7S proved its weight in gold as it positively identified a faulty left/rear wheel speed sensor. Live-Data showed 3 wheels at 25 mph and the left/rear wheel at 0 mph, while in Park, the 3 good sensors reflected 0 mph and the faulty sensor reflected 8,191 rpm. The D7S displayed 4 related DTC’s, all of which resulted from the faulty wheel speed sensor. -Ordered an OEM wheels speed sensor, installed it and an hour and $48 later, my Jeep was driving like new. -Factor 3 (Cost): The D7S is pricy compared to allot of inexpensive scanners, but the D7S is not an inexpensive scanner. It’s a quality tool. It’s fast, easy to use and has the potential to pay for itself after just one use. Plus, it’s well supported. -I’m impressed with XTOOL, both their products and support. Unlike some other companies that only provide annual scanner updates, XTOOL has their head in the game and provides monthly updates with just the push of a button. This is great for diy if your starting. The more I use the faster system is getting . It’s more snappy once plugged into car. I live all the features. For the price I got it on sale for 366 a deal breaker. Xtool forever. Interface is very nice and intuitive. Great buy.

Originally purchased to program a new key fob to my daughter’s car - dealer wanted over $500 + cost of key. Unit went on lightning sale and was worth every penny. Also allowed us to change settings on our other cars. Good quality.

    • Easy to use
The Xtool d7s is a powerful scan tool. I am not a professional tech but have some background in Auto repair. It was a long time ago and with the help of U-tube and determination I am learning to explore the tools uses. I have repaired a couple of my cars using it. It has saved me a trip or two to the Dealership and subsequent costs. No scanner tool is without faults or holes in its use. Most garages have multiple scanners. The scanner is full featured and has the added ability to code spare keys and take photos. the intergrated kick scan is really good. For me, by far is the Facebook and Reddit support groups.     • An expensive basic code and data reader
Update: 8 months in and I am almost sick that I wasted money on this and let them talk me out of returning it. Not a single issue has been resolved. The tech support is responsive but never solves anything. They seem to just drag messages out to waste time. They did offer to do remote connections but at ridiculous times to fit their workday. Original review: This tool advertises alot of functions and tests but I've found very few applicable tests on the many cars I've connected to. It has trouble auto IDing many makes/models. Manual ID doesn't list all cars in a product line, leaving you with nothing but generic OBD 2 options. Tech support is responsive, but isn't really tech support, they "forward to our technical department", constantly asking for videos, vin numbers, and to connect to wifi, to "forward", but so far not providing a single resolution, or saying a function is "not available on that vehicle", but cannot provide a list of "which vehicle" this test will run on. One specific test, "power balance" was told only works on Ford and GM vehicles. Sending Ford vins that it didn't work on has been met with silence. I'm trying to cooperate and send everything they ask for, but I feel like they're trying to run down the return window clock. It's very suspect that this seller has several listings for this exact tester, then it becomes unavailable, and new listings for the same product pop up from them. Like they try to keep reviews from following this product. Save your money, this is a very expensive code reader, not a true diagnostic platform. PID data can be hard to read because it doesn't filter out unused PIDs and has weird, non SAE names for PIDs. Basic code and data scanners with the same functionality can be had for 1/10 of the price. I tried this because it claimed similar functionality as my friend's Autel, at a slightly better price. NOPE. I'll update this if my opinion changes, but so far, they have about 1 1/2 weeks to provide advertised functionality, before the return window closes, and this is going back. For the record, I am an ASE and factory trained Master tech crosstrained in a multi line new car dealer since 1995. ... show more

Unlike other tools that say they can help diagnose problems, the D7S can, unlike other tools that say they can program remotes and transponder keys the D7S can.
