  • More than a code reader at an awesome price point
Amazon delivered my new D6 a few days ago and I wanted to start with my first impressions. Out of the box this is a slick little unit! It has fast response and scans all of the modules of my 2021 Kia Telluride. It not only scans all modules for codes and lets you reset them, but it also has more advanced features like live data and graphing on a 5.5 inch touch screen -- all for under $200. Oh, and free lifetime updates! Did I mention the lifetime updates? That is a big differentiator since most scan tools will give you 2 or 3 years free, then want $100 or more per year to get new features and new car coverage. I want to spend some time with this and try it on some other vehicles and give you a better understanding of how it works, what I like, and what I wish were better. I will come back and update this review in a few weeks when I have had time to use this on other vehicles and give my full impression. 2 Week Update ------------------ I've had the chance to use the D6 on my 2021 Kia Telluride and my daughter's 2016 Ford Escape. Pics added showing some of my favorite functions. I scanned my 2021 Kia and there were no DTCs (trouble codes). I like how it has an auto scan option that mostly figures out what vehicle it is talking to. In this mode it will read the VIN and decode most of the vehicle ID, but may ask a few follow up questions like which market the vehicle was made for. The first pic shows the list of scanned modules and a green check mark for each. You can also save these results to a report on the device or email it to yourself (if you are on wifi). Also note the car's voltage is displayed in the upper-left corner of the screen. I went into the live data and selected a few data items (PIDs). The second pic shows the 4 values I selected in a list with numeric values. These values are live and will change in real time. If you tap the expand button it will show that measurement in a live graph (pic 3). If you tap the combine button on the left, it will show all 4 values on one graph (pic 4). This is especially useful if you want to compare more than one value and see how they correspond with time. All of the above stuff was done on the "OEM" side. The D6 also provides generic OBDII access. It is too much to get into here why you want both and when you would use one over the other. Bottom line is the D6 has both. In OBDII mode one of the useful things you can do is check the readiness monitors (pic 5). When buying a used vehicle, someone may try to cheat and clear the codes before you look at it. This check will tell you if any of the monitors have not been run yet, which means a CHECK ENGINE light could be hiding and will appear later after the vehicle is driven a while. I also checked one of the special functions, which are operations to trigger the various computer modules to reset or relearn values. Pic 6 shows the TPMS relearn for the Kia. It was able to retrieve the IDs of the tire pressure sensors and has the option to "relearn" them should you need to swap a sensor. The OBD relearn button on the left would do this, but since I didn't make any sensor changes there is no need. Pic 7 is the scan on the 2016 Ford Escape. It has some codes, so I wanted to be sure to include that example. Any module with a code is listed at the top. If you tap on the module, you then see the code(s) from that module (pic 8). The Escape happened to have a burned out brake light bulb, which was the project I tackled after getting these pics. In pic 9 you can see the progress of a special function on the Escape to reset the steering angle sensor. Some vehicles need this done when the battery is disconnected for too long, or if you make other steering repairs. It wasn't needed, but I ran it anyway to show an example. Normally these are things only available to the Dealer and auto mechanics. Other things I like: - price: It's hard to beat these features for around $200 (sometimes less w/ sale or coupon) - size: it's almost pocket size. I am looking for a scan tool I can keep in the car, but doesn't take up a lot of space - screen: while a bit small, it is very sharp and clear - unit is powered from the OBDII port when connected to car - wifi connection not needed for all basic functions. i.e. you can use it in the middle of no where if your car breaks down. - FREE updates: I almost forgot this one. New vehicles, new features, bug fixes, etc are all free for life Things I wish were better: - No carrying/storage case. The box could be used, but some kind of case to keep the cables and unit together would be nice. - Screen is a bit small, but that is usually a function of price. For $2k you can get a scan tool with a really big screen. - I found a few picky functionality issues that I will send to support. I was able to get everything I tried to work, however. Hopefully the engineers will get some fixes made. ... show more

  • Small but Powerful, Little but fast: Very Informative And Easy To Use
The media could not be loaded. Just shy of 5.5" screen with a rugged outter shell. This product offers a full system scan with relearn capabilities for things such as ABS Bleeding, TPMS reset, Oil maintenance reset, Throttle Body Relearn and many more. Live data reading for up to 4 PIDs simultaneously in one graph. 32gb of storage for data (reports) with a MicroSD slot for added storage. You can share the reports via email. The unit has a quick response time (much faster than my other main obd scanner) and this product comes with lifetime updates. It is easy to use, a lot of functions, works well, and is definitely a great goto product in any toolbox. I definitely recommend. ... show more

  • No CPP Relearn, otherwise a very nice tool.
The XTOOL D6 is a good diagnostic tool. Only thing I wished it had is CPP Relearn (main reason for purchase). It has gearbox adaptation but nothing for clutch pedal sensors. If you’re needing to do a Crank/Cam/or Throttle body position sensor relearn this tool will do it. It has a lot of useful features. ... show more

  • The XTOOL D6 is a mighty cost affective scan tool!
The media could not be loaded. I spent many hours researching which scan tool to purchase that would perform many maintenance tasks that I do on a regular basis. I am by birth a DIYer in many areas of life and that means working on my vehicles too, but with modern cars it is increasingly more difficult to diagnose and repair them. XTOOL has made this task so much easier with a variety of easy to use scan tools to fit your individual needs. The D6 is a very capable tool that provides a variety of functions to diagnose and help in fixing a multitude of vehicle related issues. From quick special functions, auto scan or indepth diagnostics this one has you covered. Not only can this tool be used for diagnostics on your own car but taking it with you when you're shopping for a new used vehicle to pull up potential problems before you buy is a must. Multiple uses that can literally save you thousands of dollars in repairs. I have personally saved thousands in the short time I've owned XTOOL. Clearing codes on my 2018 Toyota Sienna was a breeze, monitoring the transmission temp for maintenance on my 2017 Subaru Outback was so easy and now looking forward to using it on my 2016 Toyota Tundra as well. With the lifetime updates of the D6 I know I will continue to keep money in my pocket. If you're on the fence about buying from XTOOL worry no more they have a great line of tools and great customer service to help you anyway they can. Jerry P ... show more

  • Cheaper than most scanners pro scanner with the same results.
I used this tool to scan 2019 chevy Malibu for EVAP codes. It gives a diagnosis with a clear message. I also scanned a GMC 2025 which was not scanned previously.
