Top Amazon Reviews

  • More than a code reader at an awesome price point
Amazon delivered my new D6 a few days ago and I wanted to start with my first impressions. Out of the box this is a slick little unit! It has fast response and scans all of the modules of my 2021 Kia Telluride. It not only scans all modules for codes and lets you reset them, but it also has more advanced features like live data and graphing on a 5.5 inch touch screen -- all for under $200. Oh, and free lifetime updates! Did I mention the lifetime updates? That is a big differentiator since most scan tools will give you 2 or 3 years free, then want $100 or more per year to get new features and new car coverage. I want to spend some time with this and try it on some other vehicles and give you a better understanding of how it works, what I like, and what I wish were better. I will come back and update this review in a few weeks when I have had time to use this on other vehicles and give my full impression. 2 Week Update ------------------ I've had the chance to use the D6 on my 2021 Kia Telluride and my daughter's 2016 Ford Escape. Pics added showing some of my favorite functions. I scanned my 2021 Kia and there were no DTCs (trouble codes). I like how it has an auto scan option that mostly figures out what vehicle it is talking to. In this mode it will read the VIN and decode most of the vehicle ID, but may ask a few follow up questions like which market the vehicle was made for. The first pic shows the list of scanned modules and a green check mark for each. You can also save these results to a report on the device or email it to yourself (if you are on wifi). Also note the car's voltage is displayed in the upper-left corner of the screen. I went into the live data and selected a few data items (PIDs). The second pic shows the 4 values I selected in a list with numeric values. These values are live and will change in real time. If you tap the expand button it will show that measurement in a live graph (pic 3). If you tap the combine button on the left, it will show all 4 values on one graph (pic 4). This is especially useful if you want to compare more than one value and see how they correspond with time. All of the above stuff was done on the "OEM" side. The D6 also provides generic OBDII access. It is too much to get into here why you want both and when you would use one over the other. Bottom line is the D6 has both. In OBDII mode one of the useful things you can do is check the readiness monitors (pic 5). When buying a used vehicle, someone may try to cheat and clear the codes before you look at it. This check will tell you if any of the monitors have not been run yet, which means a CHECK ENGINE light could be hiding and will appear later after the vehicle is driven a while. I also checked one of the special functions, which are operations to trigger the various computer modules to reset or relearn values. Pic 6 shows the TPMS relearn for the Kia. It was able to retrieve the IDs of the tire pressure sensors and has the option to "relearn" them should you need to swap a sensor. The OBD relearn button on the left would do this, but since I didn't make any sensor changes there is no need. Pic 7 is the scan on the 2016 Ford Escape. It has some codes, so I wanted to be sure to include that example. Any module with a code is listed at the top. If you tap on the module, you then see the code(s) from that module (pic 8). The Escape happened to have a burned out brake light bulb, which was the project I tackled after getting these pics. In pic 9 you can see the progress of a special function on the Escape to reset the steering angle sensor. Some vehicles need this done when the battery is disconnected for too long, or if you make other steering repairs. It wasn't needed, but I ran it anyway to show an example. Normally these are things only available to the Dealer and auto mechanics. Other things I like: - price: It's hard to beat these features for around $200 (sometimes less w/ sale or coupon) - size: it's almost pocket size. I am looking for a scan tool I can keep in the car, but doesn't take up a lot of space - screen: while a bit small, it is very sharp and clear - unit is powered from the OBDII port when connected to car - wifi connection not needed for all basic functions. i.e. you can use it in the middle of no where if your car breaks down. - FREE updates: I almost forgot this one. New vehicles, new features, bug fixes, etc are all free for life Things I wish were better: - No carrying/storage case. The box could be used, but some kind of case to keep the cables and unit together would be nice. - Screen is a bit small, but that is usually a function of price. For $2k you can get a scan tool with a really big screen. - I found a few picky functionality issues that I will send to support. I was able to get everything I tried to work, however. Hopefully the engineers will get some fixes made. ... show more

  • Extremely well built and impressive features
This is a great product. Extremely well built. You can immediately feel the quality. The first feature that I noticed and have found super helpful is that this device allows you to save “My Vehicles”. Very impressive! OBD-2 scanners are now widely available, from auto parts stores to Amazon and beyond. My first scanners were purchased at local Sears and auto parts stores. Wow have we come a long way. Features now vary from super high-end, to very basic. One thing that I have learned is that most do-it-yourselfers do not need a scanner that offers super complex high-end features, such as ECU or key fob programming. However, the very basic scanners may not provide some of the commonly used to advanced functions. Vehicles have become super sophisticated. This D6 offers an excellent balance in that it provides basic functions in conjunction with many advanced capabilities, and for any manufacturer that you can think of, both foreign, domestic, and even some you may not have heard of! This D6 does an excellent job of providing this remarkable balance for an affordable price point. The fact that it provides lifetime updates that are FREE of change is like icing on the cake! The feature-set included is a great combination of the most widely used functions based on my experience of working on and owning many car brands. When I received this order, I immediately put it to the test on a 2008 Honda Accord. The check engine light had come on. The D6 diagnostic scan returned with an emissions related code associated with a vacuum leak. Based on the description that this D6 provided, I was able to easily look-up and identify the problem, which was the gas cap! I then decided to connect it to a Dodge Aspen SUV. The scanner connected and ran perfectly. There were no codes present. This is example of how the D6 can be used to scan a vehicle before a road trip to see if there are any hidden fault codes that need to be addressed. The unit came with about 75 or 80% charge. My background in electronics tells me that this is the optimum charge rate for battery storage. This lets me know that Xtool is paying attention to detail. After a quick and easy setup, I was immediately presented with a firmware update. Ok great, this tells me that Xtool is actively updating this product with the latest features and improvements. In addition, there were also over a hundred vehicle updates. This is a good sign that the product is receiving consistent vehicle updates. The process for updating went very fast in comparison to other scanners that I own. The Wi-Fi connection was excellent, as well, as I was able to run the updates from outside, as the vehicle that I connected to was outside of my garage and at least 90-100 ft from the wifi router. I also like that the D6 is compact enough to place it in most glove boxes, or in the truck for safe storage. An excellent garage and travel companion tool. ... show more

  • Small but Powerful, Little but fast: Very Informative And Easy To Use
The media could not be loaded. Just shy of 5.5" screen with a rugged outter shell. This product offers a full system scan with relearn capabilities for things such as ABS Bleeding, TPMS reset, Oil maintenance reset, Throttle Body Relearn and many more. Live data reading for up to 4 PIDs simultaneously in one graph. 32gb of storage for data (reports) with a MicroSD slot for added storage. You can share the reports via email. The unit has a quick response time (much faster than my other main obd scanner) and this product comes with lifetime updates. It is easy to use, a lot of functions, works well, and is definitely a great goto product in any toolbox. I definitely recommend. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. The XTOOL D6 OBDB2 scanner brings data from your OBD2 port and various ECM modules very fast. Out of the box it's very easy to connect to Wi-Fi and create an account to activate the scanner. Once activated, the automatic updates run very smoothly and quickly. The scanner quality seems very good with ample corner and drop protection. The 4.5-inch screen size is perfect, bright and high quality. Lifetime update is amazing at this price point. ... show more
