This thing makes a great addition to our permanent campsite, especially when the splitting maul always seems to be getting misplaced. It's so easy to put together and use, plus it splits the wood into the perfect size. I even got the the larger size as well.

    • Well made, Good for Kindling or splitting small, dry, soft wood.

These Wood Splitters (all of them) require a fair bit of hammering to split wood. They are best for small diameter wood, making kindling or dry, soft wood (i.e. Pine). It's difficult to split longer pieces also as they'll hit the surface this is on. I have mostly Oak around here and it's a lot of hammering to even get kindling from this. I think the blade could be much sharper and it would work better (like an Axe blade). Still, this device is very well made. The pieces bolt-through one another, so they have held together through all the pieces I have split. You'll need a mini sledge hammer or for splitting smaller pieces I have used the back of my small axe. I recommend you stick with the smaller diameter model as you won't be splitting large pieces of wood. Any serious wood splitting you'll still need a traditional Axe or Log Splitter machine. ... show more

I'm reviewing the CEED4U XL Kindling Splitter with Dual Blades, it is a very heavy duty metal wood splitter. Easy to assemble, and once we had it assembled you can see that it can withstand a lot of use. The stand is strong and study and doesn't wobble. This is going to help chop wood quicker. Easy to put together, but my husband has to keep hitting the wood over and over to make a little dent in it, 4 times to maybe get 1/4" deep, said he's rather just spilt it without this,since that only takes one hit. Not worth the money

Bottom line - would order again, though I should have gotten the XL size Been using a wedge with my kindling for years and just dealing with the shortcomings of that (gets stuck in wood that doesn't want to split all the way, angling sideways, etc). Saw this and thought it would be very useful. Used it a few times and can say it is very sturdy and easy to use. Tried to use the cross blade on multiple pieces of wood, but for some reason it didn't work for me. Flipped it over to the single blade and split most pieces with a few hits. Photos show the last piece I split, which which the larger size would have worked much better with. Even so, still split the log in 4 in under 20 seconds. For large pieces, this definitely won't replace a maul, but is great on the smaller pieces. ... show more

Splitting wood is a chore made easier with this apparatus. It doesn’t take much effort to get the wood to split. Softer woods are, of course, easier, and we haven’t yet tried it with any super large logs. It’s excellent for splitting off kindling.
