    • Not just "Google Compatible", actually shows live video in Google Home cameras
I went through a bunch of security bulbs to avoid hooking up power outside, all said "Google Assistant Compatible" and all showed an error message that the feed cannot be viewed in the Google Home live view. This is probably wyze (get it?) from a cybersecurity perspective, to not allow all these random unknown vendors stream through the Google Home app, but Wyze Cam V3 is supported and it works. Installation was easy, I purchased a lamp socket separately, used the correct cable provided with the socket, and presto - installed and mounted the camera with the socket adopted into the Wyze platform. Connect Google Home to Wyze and the camera shows up with your existing Google Nest cameras in a grouped view, and streams all. Pro-tip: if you have a protective covering around the old bulbs, regular size bulbs may not fit, but amazon sells tiny E26 fridge bulbs that should fit into the existing cover along with the Wyze Socket. The media could not be loaded. I was skeptical at first that a $35 camera would be a good choice for me to use year round outside as a security cam, but I can say now that they work flawlessly for that exact use case. I started planning where to install my first Wyze V3, and the obvious choice was under my eaves to monitor my driveway/front yard. The factory mount does allow you to mount upside down and rotate side to side, however it doesn't allow you to level the camera. So while it worked as is, I wanted to look at level footage, so I ended up picking up one of these mounts (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Z7WHDX2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) which allowed me to mount the camera and orient it correctly. Next up was power, these cameras are powered via USB and a USB brick. Luckily the area I wanted to mount under my eaves had attic access. I tapped off existing power and installed a GFCI on a stud in the attic and drilled a small hole in the soffit to run the cable down through. I purchased an SD Card and the Cam Plus subscription and started tinkering. The Wyze V3 gives you the ability to adjust detection settings for both motion and audio, set a sensitivity for both, and allows you to set a detection zone for motion. This was crucial for me since my camera captures our dead end and our neighbors driveway, I didn't really want a bunch of clips of my neighbor coming and going or cars turning around in the dead end. But it's granular enough that I was able to include our mailbox in the detection zone so I could see when the mail was delivered. You can also choose to record on motion, sound, both, or neither. Once I got one working the way I wanted another was inevitable, and this time it got initially used as a crate cam for a puppy we were fostering. The camera worked great in low light to be able to keep tabs on him and ensure he was safely resting in his crate. The audio worked perfectly to know when he was being fussy, and the two way audio and being able to talk to him through the camera was comedy gold for the head tilts of not knowing where the voices were coming from. The crate camera served its purpose and eventually got promoted to a backyard camera to keep tabs on the dogs when they went out. I used the same mount as I did with the one under the eaves, except this one I used a siding clip to create mount points for the base of the cam mount to attach to. Unlike the front yard cam this one would be exposed directly to the elements/sun 24/7. I purchased a longer flat USB cable and ran it through a window and closed the window on it, making sure to leave a drip loop below the camera. I wasn't sure how long it would last but figured it's only $35. More than 6 months later this camera is still functioning perfectly and has had zero issues. Our backyard is probably 100' long or so and the night vision works great for things within 50-75' of the camera. Things on the edges you can see motion but not much definition. Last point is that I chose these for the Google Home function and they do work, albeit with a little lag. I can ask google "show me the backyard camera", it'll take 10-15 seconds to load, but it will show a live view on my Google Home Hub which is really great! I highly recommend these cameras for indoor and outdoor use. The price is right, the cost of the Wyze CamPlus subsciption is even right, I can't fault $20/yr for two cameras in the least bit. ... show more

    • EXCELLENT cameras
We've used them with just the 'free service' for quite awhile. For our needs, the 12sec of video was good enough. We generally just used them to check in on things live, not needing to go back and watch every minute to see when something happened. We have used them as baby monitors, even taken them traveling to use guest wifi, and left them streaming all night without issue. Wyze is constantly upgrading the software and adding features, though admittedly, they occasionally have those behind a pay subscription. BUT... its VERY affordable IMO. And depending on your use, completely unnecessary. The night vision is excellent, even in pitch black, and the picture quality is always very clear! They say these can be used outdoors, and I will be testing that out very soon. ... show more

    • Awesome Camera, Terrible Subscription Model FYI: you have a Trail Subscription
The Camera is awesome, I mean awesome. Night view looks like day time with color. BUT, The goal of this camera "and others like it" is to trap you with a monthly subscription PER CAMERA. When you buy the camera you are given a Free 3 month trail. After the trail a lot of the good feature disappear. The most important feature "Person Detection" disappears. Person Detection filter out all the noise from Shadows, and Car head lights and only alerts for a Person. Without the person detection filter you get Spammed with notification at night unless you turn them off. Motion detection works great during the day, but at night without a subscription the camera generate too many notifications. Simple solution is to turn off notification at night, but set the camera to record continuously. Beside that, the camera is perfect. I might pay for the subscription "$1.25 per camera per month". I have 2 camera so $3.00 a month isn't bad, but I hate subscription when I know the camera could do it without one. If I would have factored in the cost of the per camera subscription, I probably would have went with a more expensive camera with more self hosted features. ... show more

    • Great camera for a great price!
This little camera packs a big punch. The camera quality is great in any lighting level. The motion detection is great as well. I like the A.I. detection but I don’t rely on it solely. You can also use sound as a recording trigger which is nice, but it easily picks up wind noise. That will lead to lots of unnecessary recordings. The customization of almost everything is an amazing feature. The app is very easy to use and navigate. The camera itself was surprisingly easy to setup and connection to my smart home was a breeze. There are only two things I wish were different. #1- the notifications to your phone could be improved. #2- I wish the camera would come in black. You can turn off the recording status light and the IR lights. This would make the camera very inconspicuous…if it was not bright white. Overall this is a GREAT budget camera.
