    • Did my End-Grain job well
I needed to square a hole in a replacement manure fork handle. I was originally looking for a corner chisel, which was not easy to find, and once found; they are expensive! Decided on this/these. Stuffed a drill bit in reverse into the 12.7mm/ 1/2" sq chisel for alignment and used rubber-bands to hold a line level across the top flat to keep me on track, using a strap of rubber between the driven end collar and vise grips to adjust . Slow go w/ a dead-blow mallet, needing to extract the chisel frequently to clear the shavings packed into the alignment drill until I was significantly deep.. But patience prevailed and it created the hole I needed. A considerable volume batch of 30 minute epoxy mixed w/ saw dust to load the hole and paint the fork end. Let it cure a couple of days. Good to go.... Solid.! Total cost_, I could have bought a new fork. BUT I'd then re-experience the problems I have had with this original one, (fork eventually loosened in the handle, which I extracted and welded a stud onto to lengthen, then epoxied back together w/ the original handle, which a couple of years later rotted w/in the upper region of the metal sleeve). This now will LAST, likely past my life time. Plus I've occasionally wished I had a means of squaring holes; which I now have the tools to do. ... show more

    • Nice set for casual mortising
I made an adapter to use them on my tabletop drill press. They work fine for small jobs. If you have a mortising machine or do commercial work you might want a higher quality set.

    • Easy to use even without a drill press
Purchased these to install square wrought iron stair spindles. Couldn’t use a drill press on the steps so I drilled the hole with these bits and then used the square cutter like a chisel, cut clean and worked perfectly

These are a great set if you're not looking for production grade tools. They cut well in softer wood but will overheat if you're not careful in the hardest of wood. Very economical for most home woodworkers, as long as you understand their limitations they will work well.

    • Awesome tool for countersinking
This makes countersinking in wood super easy. Set the depth and drill. That easy. The bits are sharp and the countersink tool combined with it made is much easier than using two different tools. Definitely 5 stars!!!

    • Needs a compatible tool to use properly
I am new to DIY projects and saw this cool square hole driller. I thought this would be awesome to use for the first project I am doing. Well, it hurts to be a newbie. I didn’t know that you can’t use this for hand tools that I already have. It is on me, my fault for not reading through the description. However, these tools look very solid and sturdy. I would love to be able to use these but I will have to save up for the right machine. I stil rated it 4 stars but honestly, the 1 star deduction was more because I can’t use them for now so it is very hard to judge how well it will stand up to the usage and if the sharpness will last. Will it break easily if the wood is harder than anticipated or if pushed to drill a little harder? I will come back to these comments once I actually start using them. ... show more

    • Make sure you've got the proper tool!
Frankly, I thought these would somehow work in a standard drill press. I've used a version of these years ago, but I never recalled what the machine was in the shop where it existed. Bottom line, you either need a mortising press, or a drill press with a specific attachment. I have neither, so I can't speak to how well these work, but I've used my fair share of drill bits and these look and feel pretty well made, and quite sharp, especially the mortising chisels. The paintwork in the bits isn't great, but at this price, who cares. I suspect if you have the machine to use these, they'd do a respectable job. ... show more
