DO NOT, UNDER ANY CONDITION, BUY THIS ITEM!!! My rant is no reflection of the quality and usefulness of the product. I bought it a little over a month ago, and have been working to integrate myself into the use and advantages of owning it. My problem is entirely with the META company, which has notified me and the world that they have now inserted a significant ($20 per month) paywall for several very important capabilities of my glasses which were previously purported to be unlimited. In my opinion, this makes classic bait-and-switch unethical business practices look like a harmless wink. By the way, one of the capabilities of which I speak is the conversation enhancement feature that allow hard-of-hearing users to isolate and improve hearing conversational capabilities for hard-of-hear 79 year old seniors like me! It was purported to be a device feature that does not even use AI! This invaluable feature was mine with unlimited use. Now I have THREE HOURS per month, which is quite a reduction from UNLIMITED. I am now sitting here with a $459 pair of transition sunglasses that will now be intentionally crippled unless I pay a $20 monthly ransom, and this will continue into perpetuity. I don’t know if this shoddy practice is illegal, but I certainly consider it unethical. I wish I had my $459 back!

When it came to using the glasses, I loved them. It connected to my phone and played all it's audio from it and it had its own AI (Though it felt not as sophisticated as some of the AI chat bots but that could have been my signal that night) that would answer questions or do commands for me. I think its so sick. My only hiccup with the glasses was the battery life. I took them to Halloween horror nights and it they died within 4 hours. Luckily they charged decently fast and I was able to charge them throughout the lines. That was with basically constant recordings though the quality of the images was fantastic. Personal note though, I have bangs (kinda) and sometimes the camera would be blocked by my hair so be aware of that.

Reviewing after two weeks of use: Overall, my experience with the Ray-Ban Meta glasses has been positive, but I want to start with the negatives because I think it can really help people choose the right lenses. Do not buy the transition lenses if your main use is as sunglasses. Unless most of your use is indoors, I would not recommend them. The only way these lenses seem to reach a truly dark level, close to category 3, is if you are walking around while basically staring directly at the Sun the whole time. If you wear a hat, walk early in the morning or late in the afternoon, or if the sun is still bright but not hitting the lenses directly, they usually only get to something like category 1 or 2, if that. In real daily use, they are just not dark enough to be effective sunglasses. I honestly wish I had chosen a different lens option. Another big downside is that it does not seem possible to buy original Ray-Ban replacement lenses on Amazon. Most of the available replacement lenses are from unknown brands with very low ratings, which makes replacing the lenses more annoying than it should be. The camera quality is very good for both video and photos. Just do not expect to zoom into photos and still have them stay sharp. They are good for casual use, not for replacing a real camera. The biggest surprise for me was actually the speakers. They are very comfortable because nothing goes inside your ears, and the sound quality is surprisingly good. Overall, I would give the glasses themselves an 8/10, because I think the technology is good but the price is still higher than what the product truly offers. For the transition lenses, I would give them 4/10. They are useful in some situations, but if you need real sunglasses, they are not the right choice.

I bought the Meta Ray-Ban (2nd Generation) smart glasses with Transition lenses and ended up pretty disappointed with the overall quality. For the price — around $500 — I honestly expected much more. The only real strong point is the video quality in good lighting. In bright daylight, videos look sharp and clean. Photos also look great when lighting is ideal. However, as soon as the light drops even slightly, the video quality becomes very poor — it feels like something recorded on an old phone from the early 2000s. I did enjoy the built-in speakers — it’s convenient to walk around listening to music or taking calls without earbuds. That’s a nice feature. But the Transition lenses are very weak in real sunlight — the darkening effect is minimal and doesn’t really provide proper sun protection. The build quality is also disappointing. The glossy coating scratches extremely easily. When folded, the arms touch each other, and my glasses started getting scratched within just two weeks of normal use. Battery life is another big downside. When recording video — especially in 3K — the battery drains very fast. I constantly have to put them back into the case to recharge, which is very inconvenient when you spend a lot of time outdoors. The built-in AI feature feels completely useless to me — it doesn’t add any real value to daily use and seems like an unnecessary gimmick. Also, the lack of a pause function when recording video is very frustrating. If you need to stop for a moment, you have to end the recording completely and start a new clip. Later, when the videos sync to the phone, all those small clips have to be found and manually stitched together — and sometimes they don’t even upload in the correct order, which only adds more hassle. Overall, I’d rate these glasses a 3 out of 5. The idea is great, but for such a high price the quality, durability, battery life, lens performance, and software features should be significantly better.
