I just got through planting 300 bulbs with it. Worked fantastic in very hard clay soil. I sharpened the auger tip so it would cut small roots and the clay better. It did some damage to the big roots also. In normal soil it was just too easy. If I had tried to do this job with a hand tool. I probably would have given up. Speeds up the work by " decades ". If you are a gardener this is a must have tool. I don't know how I got along without it. Welded at every turn of the spiral. Stood up to a tremendous amount of abuse. Still looks like new. I was looking for a tool to dig holes in the ground so that I could install fertilizer sticks. This tool allows me to dig the perfect size hole and not mess up my whole yard. Ease of use: Good. I was able to install it right into my portable drill the same way I woukd for a drill bit. Sturdy: Great. It is made of metal. I moistened the ground a bit before using. Just to be on the safe side. Price: Amazing. It would have cost me three to four times this amount to pay someone to come out and do it for me. I can use it anytime I want. I have been expanding daffodils across my front garden each year. Its a great sunny location for early soil warm-up. Just planted next years batch and it was SO easy! Worked great with my trusty (old) cordless drill. The 3" size is perfect for bulb and refill loose soil around it.

Wanted to love this because the idea is excellent but it didn’t work with the clay soil. The top of the bit couldn’t hold up with the drill/clay combo. I do think it’d work on sandier soils — but then I probably wouldn’t need it.
