  • So far (1 wk) it seems great.
This is one of those things (like insurance) you should have but hope you never need. I wanted a dashcam that had a rear camera for several things, not least that the rear camera in my Ranger is on the tailgate and is useless as soon as it's down for hauling long items. Also blocked by trailer, etc. Mounted this high on the rear window inside (cobbled bracket and some 2-sided tape) so I could see over box content better than the standard rear-view. This works all the time as a rear-view and rear camera. For some reason it seems like the brightness control is a little off--image is a little dark sometimes. Maybe there's a setting I haven't found to adjust this. Need to read the little manual. (And I mean little--printed instructions are tiny! Fortunately the installation was pretty straightforward for me and I didn't need to consult them. Much.) Haven't tried downloading any vids yet so no comment regarding resolution, etc--described as 4K(F)/1K(R). Images while driving and standing still are usable. (Many online dashcam channels mention that the live view is a lot closer than the video images suggest and I can confirm this, at least.) The GPS seems good--indicating speed same a my speedometer. Assume location is also accurate, but no way to tell. The screen is bright enough for day and night driving without being distracting, and the image displayed is pretty clear. Also a good size--large enough to be usable without being distracting or blocking any of the windshield direct view area. FYI the front camera image is taller than the screen can show, and you can use a slider (in the settings) to position the image up/down. Mounted to the dash tray using the mounting arm kit (sold separately), which works fine. (Had to cobble up a few things out of junk-drawer items to make it work, but that's why you never throw things out!) I also used the Permanent Wiring kit so that is can stay alive while parked, just in case. I unplug the camera (USB-C) when parked at home to avoid draining the battery--not sure this is necessary. So, first impressions--it starts up quick when I start the truck, it looks good without being obtrusive, and it's doing what I expected it to. ... show more

  • Can’t go wrong with Wolfbox!!
Great product, great service!! I posted a review mentioning that the multifunctional hardware kit offered on Amazon (no options available) was to short for installation on vehicles with trunk mounted batteries and they immediately responded. Not only did they point out that longer cable options were available on their website but that they would supply one immediately. Refreshing to say the least, most retailers these days just want to argue or up sell you another product, most of the time they just ignore your requirements… Thank you Wolfbox!!! Now if I could find an OEM look camera/mirror monitor for my 2016 Scat Pack, it has the convenience group with auto Wipers & High beams, the one I order from another company was a good product but will not fit because of the convenience group… ... show more

  • It's a Good Value, But Can Be Improved
It's a Good Value, But Can Be Improved. The forward camera is a good improvement over the 4K camera I have been using, although mounted high on the mirror it does pick up a lot of reflections from the tan and silver/gray interior of the auto. I wished that the mirror had the ability to black out the screen and continue to record from the camera. I found that this is done by the Screen Saver option which keeps the mirror screen on for the configured number of seconds before blanking out. Because the rear camera provides a 1.5 times enlargement of the rearward view, the field of view is smaller than that provided by a normal rear-view mirror. With the rear camera mounted so that I can see my bumper position relative to the ground when backing, I typically could not see very far behind me in traffic. I did improve that by moving the camera out away from an overhang on the liftgate (mea culpa), but that still left the field of view lacking in comparison to the OEM rearview camera that is only for backing up. If that enlargement factor could be adjusted I'd like it better. If the enlargement factor could be adjusted during use like a zoom feature it would be fantastic! As it is, I can't see as much to either side as I'd like, so it is still limited in the field of view provided by the lenses. The installation of this was pretty awful in my SUV, mainly because of big overmolded connection points and no thought having been given to installation in anything other than sedans. My photo shows me having peeled away some of one overmolded connector, but I can only see a large thumbnail of the part Amazon will display. I wasn't offered an opportunity to define the important part. I wanted to include a view of the typical rubber sleeve that SUVs provide to protect wires that pass from the main body into the liftgate; where the rear camera needs to be mounted. The camera comes with about one foot of cable, so the main body wiring must be brought well into the liftgate area to reach the camera. The rubber sleeve that was mentioned before is pretty packed with OEM wiring already, but that overmolded connector there is at least 1.5 inches long and at least 3/8 inch diameter! Maybe my SUV is exceptionally tight, but I really wish that I had peeled the useless blob of plastic away before even trying to snake it through. One thing that influenced that was the red lead that terminates in that blob of plastic, which is used to sense when the auto is in reverse. I peeled the plastic back later because I wanted to cover the connection with heat shrink tubing and shrink tubing won't shrink as far as needed to get over that big blob and tighten around the cable itself. Another really silly thing is that to reach the backup light wiring on an SUV, the red lead has to go from where it is on the camera connector, all the way back to the upper end of the liftgate, and another wire needs to run from there to the backup light on the rearmost pillar. Now, if the camera wire had been long enough to go from about the license plate and around the rear glass to a little past the upper edge of the liftgate, an installation like this would have made much more sense. And get rid of those big overmolded connectors. What are those for? This kind of device needs to be plugged together ONE TIME. After that the connection needs to be protected from moisture and vibration, but fingers will never again handle them. So why make them rigid for an inch or two and cover them in thick plastic that defeats an installer's ability to protect them with the best available methods? Take a look at the actual size of the four pins in the connector vs the big blob of plastic they are covered in. I imagine someone doing an unboxing and saying that the big plastic blobs are somehow "confidence inspiring" in a fake review. Other than the peeling away of blobby plastic, I did use a file to reduce the diameters of both sides of the camera connection and then built up layers of shrink tubing from either side. I could then use a longer length of broader shrink tubing over all of it to protect it the way that one smaller sized piece would have done if the cable ends had been constructed properly, with concern for ease of installation in mind. Functionally, it does a lot of stuff. I talked about wanting to allow the user to adjust the field of view on the rear camera, reducing the 1.5 times magnification. I really think that could be a huge feature advantage, if implemented. Would the circular filter add-on reduce interior reflections? GPS on this creates an indexable "watermark" on the video BTW. You can't use it to find your way while driving, but it will provide an accurate speed and retrieve the correct time. The cheap "action cam" devices that I had been using to log driving would lose date and time settings regularly, so just that will end some frustrations for me. ... show more

  • Great product and customer service
I purchased the wolfbox approximately a year and a half ago. It was an easy install. I mainly use it for the rearview camera but I switch it back and forth all the time. I was redoing some things in my jeep on the 4th of July and accidentally broke the charger. I reached out to the company to find out what replacement cord I should purchase and they sent me a new one at no charge. I told them it was my fault and wasn’t asking for a free one, but they sent it to me anyway. Love the customer service. And they kept me informed every step of the way and also to verify I received it and that it works. I love the product but love their customer service as well. ... show more
