  • Works very well! Easy to install Works very well! Easy to install
Size: 16.4ft White Color: Warm White
I like this LED light string product. It works well, very responsive motion detection and light detection. The light is so bright, I don't need to turn on the ceiling light to be able to see my way up/down the stairs. It has sensors at the top of the stairs and at the bottom. The sensor boxes have two settings: M or A. M means Manual mode. With Manual mode, you have to manually press an on/off switch on the sensor box to turn the lights on or off. The lights stay on until you turn them off, no motion or light sensing. This mode runs down the battery faster, so it will need recharging more frequently if you use Manual mode. A means Automatic mode, which is the light and motion sensor mode. The lights turn off automatically after about 30 seconds of no motion detected. This mode is more battery saving. I bought the 16.4 foot long light string, after measuring my stairway. It has two sensor boxes (which sense both motion and light level), which you attach to the wall with magnetic strips. It's easy to unplug the sensor box and pull it off the magnetic strips to recharge it with a standard Android cable. Something that was not clear from the description of the product is that there is (for the 16.4 foot long model) one light string and each end of the string has a sensor box. The one con is that the instructions that come with it are VERY lacking. There are some parts that come with it and the instructions don't explain at all about these parts and what they are for. I had to figure it out on my own. So, I will try my best to explain the parts to you. There are some little circular stickers. These stickers are for covering the light sensor pinhole to convert the sensor box into a motion detector only, so that it only detects motion without regard to light levels. This means it will always trigger from motion no matter what time of day it is and how much light is coming in. There are 2 cable clips to attach the bit of cable that comes from the sensor box to the wall. There are 2 sets of wires that are red and black and have plastic bits at the ends. This one took me a while to figure out. It turns out to be a connector piece. The LED light strip has little black lines at intervals along the strip. These black lines mark where it is safe to cut the strip to make it shorter, without ruining the conductivity of electricity through the strip, so that it will still light up after being cut shorter. You cut exactly on the black line with your scissors. I did not need to cut my light strip, it was left intact, so I did not need to use these connectors. The connectors are for reconnecting the two parts of the light strip if you change your mind and want to reunite the cut sections. The way it works is you pry open the plastic clamps at the ends of the connector wires - this can be difficult to do, but I managed to do it with my fingernail. I suggest using a small flathead screwdriver instead of your fingernail, it's easier that way. Then after you've got it pried open, you lay the cut end of the light strip in it and then close the clamp over the cut end. Do the same for the other side of the connector, and then you've got the LED strips reunited and working as a single piece again. I hope this review helps you make a decision about whether this product is right for your needs. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Must have for dimly lit staircases. Must have for dimly lit staircases.
Size: 16.4ft Black Color: White
Easy to install, simple to use, and adds that extra piece of mind that the parents aren’t going to fall down the steps because they can’t see. I have a dome light above my stairs but it’s not bright enough to see where you are placing your feet. These lights are long enough for 16 steps. Installs in 10 Minutes or less. They turn on when anyone passes by and turn off within 20 seconds or so of no movement. If you don’t want the motion sensor part of it, turn switch to manual mode and you press the button when you want to use it. It saves battery life for me. They do take a while to charge from a dead battery, though. I highly recommend if you have elderly parents that are still very mobile but are stubborn and don’t want to use the built in light and they are in town and need a place to stay for the night (oddly specific right?) ... show more

  • Reviewing 2+ years of use Reviewing 2+ years of use
Size: 2*6.56ft White Color: Warm White
4/30/2025, Update after 2nd purchase: 1) I didn’t replace the light strips previously installed like I’d considered doing. They still work and I didn’t want to go to the extra effort at the time. 2) The new rechargeable units now have USB-C connections. I still use the remaining (working) battery/power unit from the old set plus the new ones, so now there’s always at least one battery unit charged, ready to go. Original/previous updates: I installed both sets of these under our stair rail, literally on the rail, one set going from the bottom toward the top and the other set going from the top toward the bottom about 2 years ago. We have zero electrical outlets available in that area. Ideal solutions would have been to have electrical outlets and/or lighting installed by a professional so I’d never have to worry about it again. But the cost is probably why we all look for these alternative solutions, right? On my 8’7” rail and due to my installation (6.5 feet each way) the light strips meet and overlap side to side. TIP based on my installation experience: (see product instructions for where to cut) Cut both light strips shorter so they just meet in the middle of your rail (as closely as possible given the length of rail and the appropriate cutting spots on the light strips) so that side-to-side overlap won’t exist and there’s not a risk of getting cut from sliding fingers over the edge of a light strip sticking out from under the rail. Thankfully this hasn’t happened to us to date and I’ll likely just replace with the new set I buy this way too. I also recommend installing over the rail attachments to the wall (see photos) because it keeps the light strips away from the edges of the rail. The main problem we’ve experienced is that one power cord RECEPTACLE (for recharging) on the device broke after about 20 or so months and is not repairable unless you’re knowledgeable about trying to solder that piece back on to a green electronics board (chip board?) inside. I cannot just order a replacement or I haven’t found a way. So I’m looking at ordering a full new set just to replace the power pack/motion sensor due to that broken power receptor. The second “problem” is simply that we have to recharge the ends somewhat frequently, but I’ve never considered it a problem so much as just a small task that needs done on a regular basis. BOTTOM LINE: For the overall cost and effectiveness, based on our needs, this product has been worth it for us. Not having to turn on the bright overhead hall light in order to see at night or early in the morning to get down the stairs is pretty nice. SIDE NOTE: I’d consider another similar light for my hallway since it weirdly has no outlets either, the stairs are at the far end, and it takes a moment for the motion sensor on this product to detect me when I enter the hall, probably due to being slightly out of range for the sensor, in case that’s useful for you to consider too. The adhesive has held for the entire time. I did use rubbing alcohol to clean the bottom of the rail before install. I think you’ll find rails are very dirty unless you clean them a lot. ... show more

  • Functional, bright, and easy to setup
Size: 2*6.56ft White Color: White
These do a decent job of lighting up my closet (without needing to add wiring). The strips are nice and bright, though I may need a third strip to cover the top of the closet. Overall this is a good, quick and easy product. In my case, I'm considering it a proof of concept that I may eventually move elsewhere when I have the time/energy to build a custom Arduino-based controller. Pros: - Bright - Magnets make it easy to mount. TIP: Check if your wall is magnetic before bothering with the sticky bits. Ay least in my house, any drywall corner has a ferrous metal under the paint that these can stick to (including in the closets inner doorframe) - Looks good. TIP: For any LED-strip light, the best look is achieved when you can't see the strip. Mount it under a shelf, behind molding, or on the back of a door frame to light the desired area without being visible when off. On my stairs I've mounted similar strips to a piece of L shaped trim so that they point downwards and out of sight. - In a location triggered at least a few times a day, the charge lasted about a month. The second one in a less used location still has a charge. - Motion sensor is sensitive. I only need it to trigger when I'm standing by the closet, but it triggers when walking from across the room. Cons: - While it is a USB-C connector, it is unable to charge from standard USB-C to USB-C charging cables. (aka save the cable it comes with) - The sticky-tape can be hard to peel - Light sensor is unreliable. It won't trigger in the morning when there is just a little sunlight at the wrong angle, but will trigger in the middle of the day when there is plenty of light - In automatic mode, the light turns off a bit too quickly after motion, sometimes leading to the crazy hand wave to reactivate it while looking in the closet. ... show more

  • Basic Motion Activated Stairlights Basic Motion Activated Stairlights
Size: 16.4ft White Color: White
I purchased this solution as my house is old (built in 1905) and the stairs are dark. I've had guests trip going up and down the stairs so I figured why not light the path for safety. I will break down the review into three parts, motion detection, brightness and installation. Motion Detection According to the instructions, the sensor has a range of 7-10 ft. It's sensitivity is appropriate from proximity as when I get by the stairs, it lights up. The operation is instant on with no pattern and after no motion is detected for 25 seconds it shuts off. One thing to note is when turning off the lights in my foyer, the lights automatically turn on. I don't know if it matters to anyone but I find it helpful as I don't have to get near the sensor in the dark for it to activate. One thing to note is since both ends pass power, when both sensors are tripped, the lights get even brighter. I charged the sensors out of the box and it took a long time to complete charging (the instructions state 2-4 hours). I heard some people had issues with the battery packs not holding a charge after a while so I will update my review after a month to give my experience. Brightness The package states it has an output of 220 lumens. As I do not have a means to confirm this, I take it for face value. The strip produces enough light to illuminate the stairs in the dark and in ambient lighting. However, I would prefer it if the strip was a bit brighter for my own personal taste. Further, I feel the LEDs are a bit too spread out and feel it would benefit with a closer set of LEDs or double the LEDs. Note: I chose the 6000k color temperature as I felt it suited my needs. Installation As with any project, one must start with prep work by cleaning the surface for the lights to adhere. As this is my house, I went the extra mile. I swept and steamed the stairs from top to bottom. For the area where I adhered the lights, I hit it with a dry wipe then used lysol wipes and let it dry. As I have a landing, I employed the use of another person to hold the lights so I can stretch it out to see both ends and get an idea of placement. Then I peeled the backing of the iron sheets and placed the sensor on the lower part of the stairs. I plugged it up and started peeling the backing off and affixed the LED strip to the staircase (disconnecting once I got the initial part of the strip adhered). When I got to the landing I had to come around so I cut the strip and tethered it with the included connectors. I secured the cord and continued to the last part at the top of the stairs. Once the entire strip was installed, I mounteded the second sensor and the task was complete. I say the installation was fairly easy that an inexperienced individual could attempt it and be successful and the time it took to complete from start to finish was about 30 minutes where most of the time was dedicated to prep work. Adhering the LEDs was the easiest part while the wire connector part (unnecessary in some cases) took a little time to work with as I had accidentally peeled the backing in the area that was going to be connected. It just made things more difficult because the sticky part kept sticking to my fingers or the connector in the wrong area. Final Thoughts I recommend purchasing these lights as I believe they provide great value for the cost. Unless you're willing to go all out for an illumination solution for your stairs, this simple solution works great! The ability to have the lights powered by battery provides the freedom to mount the solution virtually anywhere. I took as many pictures as I could for an idea of what to expect. ... show more

  • Bright, Convenient Motion Lights — Just Be Careful Where You Install Them
Size: 6.56ft White Color: White
These LED motion-sensor strip lights are very bright and activate quickly when motion is detected in the dark, which makes them extremely useful in low-light areas. The motion sensor works well, especially when your hands are full going up or down stairs, and the daylight color gives off a clean, modern look. When installed, they look really cool and provide practical visibility. I installed these on the underside of my stair handrail, and while the lights themselves work well, that location turned out not to be ideal for me. Because of how I naturally grip the handrail, I ended up knocking the lights loose, and I occasionally caught my hand on the edge of the strip. That’s more about placement than the product itself, but it’s something to consider carefully — especially in areas where hands regularly slide along a surface or where children might be present. Overall, these lights function exactly as advertised and are very handy in the right location. I’d recommend using them on shelves, under cabinets, or along stair edges rather than directly on a handrail. With thoughtful placement, they’re a convenient, bright, and useful motion-light solution. ... show more
