Placed near and plugged into USB power anywhere in the room, this gives my Android phone universal IR remote capability. Now with my phone nearby, my smart remote is the only remote I need. My phone is now my go-to control for all non-smart TV functions. Once registered into the Smart Life app from Volcano Technologies, the setup works flawlessly, including WiFi sign-in, a rich code library, and learning any buttons from an IR remote. In the Google Home app, I changed the name from Smart IR to The Room. This allows me to ask Google “What's the room temperature?” Google responds “The room is currently ## degrees.“ Fahrenheit/ Celsius is adjusted with a single button push. The user guide gives an overview and promotes IR-controlled appliances and smartphone interaction to achieve automation, thus making voice commands to Google available. The possibility of TV IR voice commands and controlling room temperature with Google Routines, a smart outlet, and a household fan is something I may explore soon. Update, 7 weeks later. Since the Smart Life app is compatible with Google Home and with many smart devices and has useful automations and widgets, it is highly recommended. It makes the Smart IR Remote Temperature Sensor one of my most used automation devices. For TV control the Smart Life widget provides an array of customized button press combinations on my Android home screen and a virtual TV remote within the app. Channel and customized button selections are also controllable with Google Voice commands. For room temperature control the Smart Life app provides Andriod notifications based on temperature threshold automations. These notifications assist me in sending timely Google voice commands to turn the fan on, etc. (Google Home safety precautions do not allow for the automatic triggering of routines).

Setup was quick, usage is reliable. I can now have a routine to turn on my bedroom air conditioner before we go up to bed. Instead of the bedroom being 90 degrees when we go up, it's a comfy 74 degrees. And I can adjust when the routine starts, so we only use as much electricity as we need to.

Likes: Uses the 'Smart Life' app. Already had it on my phone. Works well with Alexa, although you might consider giving it a different name than 'temperature'.😁 Set up is simple. Does not need batteries, has USB plug in with provided cord, although you do need a USB connection. Used the smart life app and alexa serveral times and it worked perfectly even away from home. Dislikes: The size of the screen is small, you'd have to be close to read it. However, that would not affect me personally as I use my phone to retrieve the info, or ask Alexx Addendum 11/5/2021 When connected through Alexa readings are submitted every 30 seconds, which Alexa stores. Major pain to eliminate the readings without eliminating all other device readings. My suggestion is not to connect to Alexa and read through Smart Life app only

The remote function is OK I guess.. Once you figure out how to manually add it. You have to do manual add then pick a listened manufacturer (I picked 3m)..then manually add each button from the remote that came with your device. NOTE, I was using it for a heater. The biggest issue is that the Thermostat part doesn't show up in any of the automated options in the App. This means that you can't set a schedule in the app or geofence etc. I returned it.

Works as it should theres a little button on the back to change it from c to f. Only downfall for me atleast is that the clock reads in 24hrs. Rather than 12hrs. Ir is really good made some integrations for when certain temp is reached to run off or on the fan.

WIFI setup was tricky but got it. IR works great and works great with Alexa. Unit is small and and difficult to see specially when dark.

The concept is great. When is working is cool. But it is keeps disconnecting from Google home and losing connection.
