The hub includes everything needed to get started: one Tapo H500 unit, four screws for mounting, a 4.9 ft 12V DC power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable, and a quick start guide. Built with a clean, compact design, the hub measures 6.31 x 3.89 x 3.28 inches and weighs 1.3 lbs. This Matter hub operates reliably in environments ranging from 32°F to 104°F, with humidity levels of 10% to 90% (non-condensing). The hub also meets key security standards of FCC, CE, RoHS, and WEEE, and features 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS and WPA2-PSK/WPA3-Personal protocols for enhanced data protection. • Good Bye Blink. Hello Tapo.
I had already installed numerous Tapo devices (P125M plugs, C510W and C121 cameras, and D210 doorbells.) These were replacements for Blink devices. I have spent a number of years and a lot of dollars trying to get Blink devices to work. A very frustrating and marginally successful experience. If I had a dollar for every error message I got from Blink, I could have paid for this new system. Tapo equipment and software have been FAR superior to Blink in my experience. Blink sort of worked. Tapo just plain has worked. Your experience may vary from mine. The Tapo app is very smooth, doesn't cost anything if you use local storage, and is almost glitchless. The one thing I haven't liked is having to use a separate microsd card for each camera. The cost of the cards does add up and if someone steals the camera they also steal your record of them stealing the camera. I wanted to have centralized local storage. So that is the main reason I bought and installed this H500. It has worked flawlessly. I installed a Crucial MX500 two terabyte drive and achieved my main goal. The H500 detected all of my existing Tapo equipment without a hitch. Today I installed the excellent DL110 door lock (replacing a Sifely, which was a bit finicky) with no problem and intend to install a few of the Tapo smart bulbs. One important thing to do is enable "wifi backup" on your connected devices. I have had almost no signal problems since enabling -- unlike Blink. This integrates well with Alexa, though image quality through the Tapo app is better than Alexa. I like using Alexa routines for controlling everything, since I have some non Tapo plugs and lighting that Alexa routines handle very well. In summary -- an easy install and a good way to integrate the components of a very user friendly security/home monitoring/lighting system. One other thing I like about the Tapo app is that it works well with either a tablet or phone -- it switches between landscape and portrait mode seamlessly. Wish the H500 had been less costly, but it is worth the price to me. ... show more

  • It’s a work in progress
I have been waiting a very long time for this to be released. The H500 plays nicely with the Tapo line of cameras as well as the sensors such as door open/close and water leak detectors. I installed a 2TB laptop HDD I had laying around to store footage, and it seems to work equally fine as when I was previously storing on SD cards. If anything, it feels slightly more responsive being that it is pulled up from a single device. The ability to add several TB of storage for video footage is an added bonus. I am hoping that in future models they will add a second drive option for allowing RAID storage to ensure redundancy or failover. Where this device falls short is that the setup process has felt buggy. Certain cameras were not pairing with it at first. Factory resets of the cameras having issues seemed to get it back into gear. AI empowerment especially needs work. On paper, it’s great being able to identify who is in what videos the Tapo cameras capture. For the privacy focused, all data is stored on the device which is a plus. I believe the facial recognition tends to have trouble with female subjects as it has flagged several dozen instances of my spouse being a different person. Thankfully you can combine these different faces into a single profile and I’m hoping this will improve over time. When you have strangers enter your home, the Tapo app will notify you and offer to save them as a familiar. You can save up to 50 familiars on this device. It is unclear if it’s only for persons or if they’re trying to allow pets as an option because it also flagged our dog to be marked as a familiar. The speaker on it is also relatively quiet compared to other hubs. Ultimately though I’m choosing to keep this device as it has a very promising feature set and I believe that over time it will only get better. ... show more

  • Excellent Customer Support
I purchased the Tapo H500 Hub to store footage from all my Tapo cameras and doorbell in one place, and it’s been working great for that purpose. The setup was straightforward, and the device integrates seamlessly with the Tapo ecosystem. Initially, I ran into an issue where the app would crash when I tried to share the hub with my wife's TP-Link account. I reached out to customer support, and after a few helpful back-and-forth emails, they escalated the issue to the engineering team. Big thanks to Ryan from the engineer team, who provided early access to a beta version of the app that completely resolved the crash issue. I really appreciate the responsiveness and dedication from both the support team and Ryan and his teammates. Their quick and professional assistance made a huge difference. Overall, I’m satisfied with the H500 and impressed by TP-Link’s customer service. Highly recommended for anyone using multiple Tapo devices! ... show more
