  • Whyter out door in-cabinet ice maker
Style: Ice Maker
I purchased this unit almost 6 months ago and was extremely happy with its performance, but then it stopped working. Since we were going away for several weeks, I shut it off. When we returned, I turned it back on and checked on it several hours later and it was back making ice again. Just prior to dinner, I opened up the ice maker door and steam poured out. It red hot inside and the ice bucket was filled with water. After a quick call to Amazon, they told me it was a 3rd party sale and would get me over to Whyter technical support. I was all set for a “sorry I can’t help you”. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to speak to very lovely person who politely.asked me to explain the problem and take a few pictures of the front & back of the unit and include the purchase & shipping info. She then asked if I would remove it from the cabinet, plug it in and have it go through one ice making cycle and call her back. I called her back and tol her that it did not get hot or cold. It appeared to be dead. She thanked for the info, asked for my shipping address and said they would ship me out a new one within the next few days. A day later she e-mailed me to tell me the unit was ready for pick up and the next day she told me that it was picked up and gave me the tracking info. You never like having a problem with your purchase, but it’s not often that you can say that getting a resolution was quick, efficient and painless. It was. Thank you, Whyter, ... show more

  • Texas weather... now lots of Ice to cool it down!
Style: Ice Maker
Update 8/1/21: stopped freezing after a little over a year. Still working to get parts or a fix with Whynter. Will report back when I get a response. I changed from 5 stars to 1. Makes me mad to spend so much money and expense to run the water line with its own filter system and it stops cooling. We started seeing black Teflon looking material in the cubes, smelled like burning wires and now not cool. The water is pumping. Family bought the exact same one recently and the wiring and motor are different and not exposed to freeze like my unit. Could it be that there was an issue with last year's model? My new refrigerator has a tiny ice maker and after a while with the counter ice maker, I had to refill and replace every year, I decided to get this one and hook it up to the water line. We put a Brita filter on the line so we will always have clean filtered ice cubes. It's been going a few days and within hours it was full with a huge bucket of ice. It's a little noisy but no more than the refrigerator. I love that it keeps the ice frozen, unlike the counter top ones. We installed it under the counter due to the size and it is perfect. Stainless steel so matches all the other appliances. ... show more

  • Makes Ice - Keeps It Frozen & Ready - Great Value for the Price
Style: Ice Maker
This works exactly as it should. It makes ice cubes and keeps them frozen. It doesn't make them super fast, and it is a little loud when the first ones come out, but that's OK because it keeps them frozen and isn't making ice cubes constantly (the way I am using it). I flipped my door to open the opposite way and I appreciate being able to do that. The top was a little scratched by the door bolts from when the door was originally installed at the factory but I am OK with that, too. My refrigerator columns don't have ice makers and the ice maker in my drawer freezer takes up the entire bottom drawer and so I am not using that. This ice maker allows me to have ice nearby in my garage entry room (next to the kitchen). I had a countertop ice maker but they can't keep the ice frozen so you can't use them all the time and they are very sensitive to country water - I had to use bottled water in mine. This ice maker is exactly what I wanted and the price was lower than I expected. ... show more

  • Great Ice Maker - Power Switch Too Big
Style: Ice Maker
For the last three years, I've owned an almost identical ice-maker that had a different brand name. It served me well until a compressor seal began going bad. Overall, I was satisfied with the product. This unit seems to be the same except for the power switch. The power switch on my first unit had to be manipulated by hand and was kind of tricky. The power switch on this unit is large and is too easily operated. Since I've owned this one, on two occasions, I have found the power was off due to someone accidentally hitting the off switch with their foot. I'm guessing the makers of this unit must have thought they were improving the design - but they really didn't. Don't get me wrong. So far, it is doing a great job of making ice. I hope it lasts at least three years. ... show more

  • Best value ice maker out there and it does not require a drain!
Style: Ice Maker
This is a nice inexpensive compact ice maker that does not require a drain. The unit is an actual freezer with an ice maker similar to top freezer models found in kitchens. It can be installed under counter as it vents out the front. I reversed the door to open the other direction (not in the instructions but easy!). Looks pretty good. Super simple design. Super easy installation (1/4" water line and plug into an outlet). I installed an inline water filter to improve the ice quality. The unit started making ice within an hour and continued to make ice every hour afterwards. Ice shape is a descent sized half moon which doesn't melt as fast as other sizes/shapes. Fingers crossed that this lasts a long time. ... show more
