  • Need good ventilation
This works better than my old stovetop smoker and doesn't take anywhere near as long to smoke things. However, it does still need good ventilation. You should use it under an oven hood and possibly open a window. The first time I used it, I added too many wood chips, and it seriously leaked tons of smoke inside my house to the point where I had to carry it outside onto the deck. I now have figured out about the right amount of wood chips, and I'm able to use it indoors. Leads to a great smokey flavor, and I have to say, things like smoked salmon skin can then be turned into chips in the microwave wrapped in parchment paper (2m) and eaten with fruits like watermelon--and the smoky meat+fresh fruit combo is freaking delicious. ... show more

This product is amazing! I have been living in a condo for 7 years and have missed the ability to smoke food. This product gives you the same flavors you get from a smoker. I would note it’s best to under cook the food slightly and finish it in the oven. If not the food seems more steamed. The lid and seal could be better as some smoke does leak out, but not enough to deduct and entire star. I draped a kitchen towel over the top and it seemed to absorb most of the smoke. As for people who say it makes your house smell like smoke…that is 100% true. It is not different than slow cooking a tomato sauce all day and your house will smell like tomatoes. I do recommend taking the advice of others and cooking under your stove hood. My vents through the microwave and it seemed to do the trick. House may have smelt of smoke because of the food being smoked but there was no actual smoke in the house. If you are not able to use an outside smoker 100% buy this! ... show more

I got this because i live in a studio. however, i do not have any ventilation! so i put it next to a window. smoke still leaks out, and it was enough for me to worry about a fire alarm or for smoke to go into above residents' air conditioner (my a/c was blowing smoke right back into my apartment). otherwise, my advice is to only use a few wood chips. do not fill up. too much smoke can get raunchy, considering it is concentrated. ... show more

The smoked chicken is so good! I really like that I can smoke without having a large smoker taking up porch space. One thing to note is you really need to use it outdoors our your whole house will smell like smoked meats (not a bad thing though eh?)

I bought this smoker so I could smoke in the house I have one that works on the stove that I was not to happy with. this smoker is fantastic I have smoked fish in it twice and it only took 30 mins and it turned out so good I also did hamburgers and the smoke flavor was great I have just bought a brisket and ribs to give those a try for the people who complain about the little bit of smoke that escapes take a piece of tin foil and put on top before you put the lid on that stops it. The only suggestion I have is I would of liked more recipes with it when I bought it. I highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • Smoke Well, Does Not Seal Well
The media could not be loaded. It's compact and smokes well. The metal used in the main unit construction is so thin that it is almost as weak as an aluminum can. This allows the container to warp easily and makes it very hard to get a tight seal. They need to make the container out of thicker gage steel. Controls are not intuitive. It does however work well for smoking, I'd suggest using it outside or by a window with a fan blowing the smoke outside. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. If this thing was easier to clean I would use it every single day. Love the flavor, speed, and convenience. My only complaint is how hard it is to clean.

  • Yup, it gives food a smokey flavor...
My first impression is that it definitely works. As others have described, the controls are pretty complicated. It really could benefit from some additional buttons or a better UI. Other than that, I added an elastic strap to hold down the lid a bit better. I live in a 6 unit apartment and my stove vent inexplicably vents into a back stairwell where smoke alarms are located. I'm constantly setting them off when I'm searing roasts or frying stuff. My neighbors "love" me! LOL Without a little weight or a strap on the lid, the smoke does escape and I really want to be able to use it in my kitchen. My first test was to smoke fresh ground turkey patties on hot. They came out a bit too smokey but that's probably more related to the quantity/type of wood chips and needing to play with the settings. Overall, I'm very happy with it and am looking forward to using it often in my Chicago apartment year round. UPDATE after 3rd use: No regrets because I mostly needed a slow cooker but the smoking will definitely take practice and an understanding of the capabilities and limitations. Does it smoke stuff? Yes. Will it behave like a pellet grill/smoker? Absolutely not. You're going to need to accept these limitations and adjust accordingly. Use it to add a great smoke flavor to meats but you'll need to incorporate a cast iron grill pan or a broiler to get your meats to not have a steamed/boiled texture. ... show more
