We have a large sandwich grill, but it's too much if all you want to make is a sandwich or two. I was intrigued when I came across this grill for the microwave. I've never seen one in stores. It wasn't expensive so I thought, why not? First thing we made were grilled cheese sandwiches. We weren't sure how many minutes to put them in for so the first one was overcooked and the second better. Then we decided to try frozen hash brown patties - delicious! We are going to try hot dogs next. Being able to use the microwave oven means the house doesn't heat up - very important in Florida in the summertime. Clean up was easy and it can be stored in or next to the microwave. These would make great gifts for co-workers at the office, college kids living in dorms, busy teachers.

I used to have a Microhearth grill for the microwave. I grilled everything in it and loved it! However, after a number of years when I decided it was time to buy a new one, I realized that the quality had seriously deteriorated. Sure enough, one day I looked over at the microwave to see flames shooting out! Yes, the grill burst into flames! I went to read 1-star reviews and saw that it happened to too many other people as well. And yet, Amazon continues to sell it. Anyway, I had really become addicted to the ease of grilling in the microwave and the search began for a replacement. There aren't exactly a lot of choices. I decided to try this grill. Because it isn't a covered grill like the Microhearth, it isn't as versatile. It is mainly good for sandwiches. I have tried a number of things including french fries and hotdogs. What I've learned... if you are trying to fry something like french fries, they need to be evenly cut or they won't brown evenly. If you hook the latches on the grill, items at the ends of the grill will brown faster than items in the middle and if the items in the middle aren't big enough, they won't brown at all. Even the middle of hotdogs didn't brown as well. I need to experiment more with this to see what works best. Maybe, depending on what you are cooking it may be better not to latch the ends. I am still happy I bought this. I will definitely see how it works with burgers and fish and who doesn't love a good grilled cheese sandwich? Even the silicone ends get very hot so be sure to use potholders when taking it out of the oven. Thankfully, the nonstick surface and being able to pop off the silicone ends makes cleaning this a breeze. One thing to note... one review says the instructions make it clear to use 800w max. However, while the cooking times given in the instructions are for 800w, it actually says you can go up to 1000w.

Limited instructions on how to cook food items. Timing is pretty much trial and error. I suggest using a digital cooking thermometer. I was very good cooking a tilapia filet, which did require surgery to fit the pan. (I got the timing correct quickly) It didn't work as well on a store ready to cook burger patty, but i over-cooked it, and the patty wasn't great to start with. The searing quality wasn't great, but it was OK for me. I'll keep it and use it.

Havnt used it yet but it’s odd that it has no directions at all or even people giving reviews on TV he box, I seen one guys review about steak and how long to cook it on one side, I guess he had a thin steak but anyway he is the only help I’m going to use so thank you for the info, I wrote down the minutes. 4 1/2 on one side and 3 on the other. Thanks for the tip. Update, 9-11-23, I used this last night and cooked two small steaks at once for 4 minutes and they turned out perfect, medium rare, I cooked pork chops the night before and over cooked them but they were still moist. I think I’m going to love this, I just cook for my Dad and myself so it’s perfect. There’s not a lot of directions to follow so you just have to play with it. If the meat doesn’t touch both the top and bottom grill you’re going to need to turn it over and cook the other side but be careful there will be grease running out so do it over your trash can or into a can or something. I definitely recommend this.

Not as good as using a griddle, but great for older kids to use If they want to make a grilled cheese or other similar sandwich. Also good if you’re cooking for 1 or 2 people and don’t want to make much mess. With our microwave, it takes between 3-4 minutes for both sides to brown.
