Silent. Clean look. Plenty of Air. Acceptably bright with LEDs.
I came across this product from a Wirecutter review and decided to purchase. After about two months of use, I am comfortable saying that this fan is pretty great. LOCATION: I installed the fan above my kitchen table on an 8' ceiling in the flush configuration. AIRFLOW: Fits my needs. My family has only used it on low or medium speeds. The high speed setting will alter the location of any loose paper on the table below. LIGHT: Many reviews list this light as too dull for a primary light. I agree that two 40 watt incandescents would be too dull for my space. So I simply put two 60 watt equivalent LEDs (8 watt) in there. LEDs give much more light per watt, so I highly recommend using them on this fan if you need more light. Obviously make sure whatever switch you're using is compatible with LEDs. SOUND: My initial install plan intended to have the light on a dimmer and the fan on a basic switch. However, during the install I ran into an issue where I had to put both the light and fan on the dimmer circuit. I can confirm that a dimmer switch (Leviton) on max makes this fan hum slightly. I promptly switched out the dimmer switch with a basic on/off and the fan is absolutely silent. I plan to jump back into the attic when it gets cooler and hard wire the fan circuit and put the dimmer back in for the light. The fan location is fine for simply using the pull cord for the fan control. I did get lucky with the blades as they did not need any balancing. INSTALL: I knocked one star off here. This fan does have a design that takes ease of install into account, which is greatly appreciated. The internal wire between housings is very long (probably 6') which made wiring a breeze. There is a hook on the fixture to allow you to temporarily hang the motor off the ceiling while you finish wiring, so you dont have to struggle holding a heavy motor in one hand while finishing the electric -- a big plus. The wire is actually a bit too long actually. I found it difficult to coil up inside the housing during the final mounting step. Installation of the blades was also comparatively difficult as you have to fight thru a slot with a screwdriver to access the screw heads. I dropped them several times and had some choice words. However I feel a reasonable amount of struggle is perfectly acceptable for an item that installs once and should not get touched again for years, especially when the design is going for a modern look by hiding screws, seems, etc. I took off one star because the vent holes in the top of the motor compartment are large enough for the ceiling bezel screws to fall thru. I had the fan install nearly completed, but dropped one of those screws in the final steps and it went into the motor compartment. It promptly stuck to the magnet of the motor, so no amount of jostling could recover the screw. I had to take the whole thing down and disassemble the motor to get the screw back. The screw itself was not that important, but running a motor with a stray piece of metal inside is not a good idea. Granted, this was very unlucky, but properly sizing holes, slots, etc. to prevent this occurrence is simply good design practice. All in all i am happy with the fan. I prefer the modern and clean look, although my wife hates it and would prefer something more ornate. But that's a whole different topic...

False advertising
This fan is listed as providing more than 5000 cfm of airflow and an energy efficiency in the 80's. It does not. In actuality it is just under 3600cfm at its highest setting.

I’m amazed at how quickly other reviewers claim to have installed this Westinghouse Comet fan! I ordered & received the fan in short order from Amazon. Then I ordered a retrofit fan bracket. It arrived & I realized the bracket would not work on my I-trusses. So I ordered another bracket & received it a week later. During the fan installation I dropped one of the tiny lock washers. Of course, it fell into one of the small holes into the motor housing. I removed the housing & was finally able to shake the washer out. While installing the housing, I realized I had nowhere to attach the ground wire, as I had already attached the house wire ground to the box. I took it all apart again & attached the ground wire to the box ground, got the housing back up, then came the blades. Whew, what an ordeal! Dropped several bolts & washers; up & down the ladder to locate them, & finally got the blades mounted. All in all, I’d say I’ve got maybe 8 hours into it. One review said 10 minutes. Anyway, finally got it up & running. Very nice! Well balanced, nice air flow, dim, but adequate lighting, very quiet operation, nice look. Only change I’d make, were I to do it again, would be to hire the dude that got it up in 10 minutes!

Ridiculously difficult install, Beware fire hazard!!
I will preface this review by stating that I have some professional electrical experience, and consider myself very handy around the average house. That being said, this fan was THE MOST DIFFICULT THING I HAVE EVER PUT TOGETHER. It was like an engineer actually sat down and thought about how to make each step more difficult to both comprehend and accomplish. The instructions should probably list "contortionist" as a required tool for assembly given the way I had to bend my arms, hands, and head around the housing and fan blade assembly during some of the steps. Update: Also, after just a few months in use, both of the LED lamps included with the fan had completely vibrated apart, causing flickering and eventually a total failure of both lamps. I'm just glad I noticed it and they didn't burn my house down. I will never buy a Westinghouse fan again. I will stick with Hunter brand, they've always been reliable and easy to install. This was a discount price, but as the saying goes, you always get what you pay for. Do not buy. Do not waste your time. Do not install this ridiculous fire hazard in your home. If you already own this fan, I suggest you check the lamps immediately and replace them with a known solid brand replacement.

Less airflow than expected. Otherwise, almost perfect.
I have been looking for a simple, black matte fan for a while that doesn't look outdated or bulky. I impulse bought this fan one night and was pleasantly surprised. Delivery was extremely fast and even arrived a day before I expected. Instalation was pretty standard. I used the flush mount directions. Personally feel like the marble side of the fan blades look cheap however the solid side looks great, nice idea to give options. Fan looks great up, and doesn't wobble at all!! Before I had it fully set up I thought it was going to because I could wiggle the base no matter how tight I drilled the screws. The light is also more powerful than expected after reading reviews. Works well for a bedroom at least. The only reason I'm giving this fan 4 out of 5 starts is the airflow is not as powerful as I expected. However it's just enough to give a nice breeze. If you want a very strong wind this is not the fan for you. I will definitely consider buying 2 more for the other bedrooms when the time comes.
