  • Well made cross between a true ceramic Kamado style grill and a classic Weber Kettle grill.
I bought the Weber Summit S6 Kamado grilling center after agonizing over the various Kamado style grills out there (Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe, Primo, Vision). In the end, I bought the Weber because it has a large 24" cooking area, yet weighs far less than the ceramic grills with a similar cooking area (125 lbs versus over 300 lbs in some cases), is convenient and easy to light, and seemed like it would be a good compromise. The snap-start propane system for lighting charcoal especially appealed to me, and I have had good experiences with Weber quality and support in the past. The "cooking" part of the grill is well made and looks like it will last a very long time. The kettle itself is really solid heavy gauge steel and the heavy duty stainless grilling racks are similarly robust. They cut costs in a few areas: hard plastic rear wheels, funky, hard to slide metal basket, etc. Assembly was NOT easy, mainly because the instructions were terrible, incorrect in a few places, and gave absolutely no guidance on things like when to fully tighten screws versus leave a little room for adjustment in subsequent steps. Overall, I am very pleased after a few forays into using it. The hinge is great, and "air" insulation in top half works well - you can touch it even when interior heat is at max. However, it will not get quite as hot (over 700 degrees) as a true Kamado, and it does not seal as tightly as a true Kamado either. There is no latch to hold it closed and the air adjustment hardware at the bottom is leaky and imprecise. You can get a steady temperature for low and slow smoking...but it is hard to hit, and mark on the bottom air input. The charcoal does not last quite as long as a true Kamado with precise airflow control. Adding charcoal once in use is also a little tricky. The earlier model had a hinging diffuser plate, but the newer model does not (see photo) . So adding fuel if you realize it is petering out on a long smoke is a little hard. In summary - this grill is a GREAT all around compromise if you like using charcoal and want to be able to indirect and direct grill, smoke, and sear at high temps. It has a huge cooking area and you can even get a second rack, all at generally high quality, with many accessories, and with good support. It is slightly overpriced, but for me it is proving to be a great "one grill does it all" choice. ... show more

  • The best charcoal grill ever
This grill is awesome. It was delivered on time and on a pallet made for the box. I was able to assemble it in just under 2 hours. It arrived mostly assembled, just had to mount wheels, kettle, hinge and lid. After I coated grate with vegetable oil and burned at 300° for about 4 hours to season, I cooked hamburgers to get a feel. It can hold a bunch of charcoal and the temp control was very good. The burgers turned out perfectly (medium well) The construction materials are very good and overall very decently built. Everything stainless steel and porcelain coated steel. Plastic rear wheels were a bit of a let down, but they are thick and will hold up fine. I will only move it 2x a year for winter storage anyway. It looks great, can burn at low temp for many hours, and the flavor is unmatched. If your questioning if this is the right grill like I was, don't hesitate. This thing delivers performance and will last many years. Go with the more expensive S6. I almost bought the much cheaper E6 and already the stainless table and wheel set and on board storage are well worth the extra money. It's very fuel efficient, has a huge cooking area and the air tight dome and precise temperature control allows you to smoke unattended for many hours. This grill will not disappoint! ... show more

  • Loving this product so far
I am not a veteran smoker. I love to grill, but it has always stopped there. For this purchase, man, did I go back and forth over what to do. I looked at pellet grills, BGE and other ceramics, etc. Ultimately I chose this grill because of my brand experience with Weber and the design of the product. I especially loved the Charcoal lighting assist and the integration into the shelving. I am early in, but, so far - I feel like I am getting the best of all worlds. My single favorite feature is the Charcoal Lighter assist. It makes my gas grill obsolete. I can have charcoal going in less than 10 minutes and the grill up to temp in similar time to my Weber Gas Grill. And I get that charcoal flavor! I have smoked several types of chicken, a couple sets of ribs, and a pork butt on the smoker. No brisket yet... I find that the temperature maintains control well, and I am really getting a feel for the air settings and how I manage my charcoal. Love it! This unit is certainly not cheap, but I am very happy with my purchase. I am one of those, "Why would I pay $50 for a steak at a restaurant when I can cook my own so much better and less expensive" type of people. I find this an investment in another way to avoid eating out. ... show more

  • Worth it
I have had several grills and cookers and still have 10 or so floating around. I am not a Weber fanboy as I havent been the biggest fan of their kettles for many reasons...I have had kamado's in the past and thought i would give the new Weber Summit Kamado a whirl...this one works, and works well. It is solid and you can feel the quality of the parts when you are putting it together. It is much sturdier and more heavy duty than a Weber kettle or a Weber Performer (which I have both of). It heats up very quickly as the shape moves a lot of air when going for searing temps. When you overshoot your temps, it is easy to bring back down...much easier than trying the same thing on a ceramic kamado....Temp control is easy too...as is ash cleanup. I dont use it for smoking (just grilling), so I cant comment on low and slow, but this is a good cooker and is easily my favorite charcoal grill that I have had... ... show more

  • Very impressed
The grill can be controlled like an oven with the dampers and keeps temperature for HOURS. I smoked a pork shoulder for 9 hours and when I lifted the diffuser plate there was still 35% of the coals unlit! The propane starter I will never use but may be helpful for those that will. Solid grill that I will use for YEARS! ... show more
