I've let it run for hours on the low setting in the garage and it seems to work. It heated the garage to a comfortable level but there are TWO issues with it that make me want to return or replace it or give it away to someone less sensitive than me and buy a different product from another manufacturer. ONE. It's LOUD. Even in the low setting it was LOUD and seemed to want to run at full speed all the time. It starts off mostly quiet but then gradually gets louder and eventually runs at full speed regardless of what the thermostat is set at or which setting (low/medium/high) you choose. It looks to have a small fan with few blades and spins fast to move air. Better would be to have more blades and a slower moving fan would move the same amount of air QUIETLY. Otherwise it seemed to be made very solid as it feels heavy for being so small. I suspect the safety features (lots of them = great) add significant heft and quality to the parts and that makes it feel solid and heavy. TWO. Maybe because it's BRAND NEW, but it produces a very obvious oder of hydrocarbon/plastic which was disappointing to me. After hours of running does it NOT seem to be burning off. The plastic of the switches and dials feel like inexpensive parts and is probably NOT made with low VOC. It'd be fine if it burned off, but it's has not so far after a week of running many hours in total. Time will tell. Three stars for a LOUD mini heater that has an odor is a generous review and only because it seems to work as advertised. This heater model might be nice for a warehouse were having a smell and making loud noise during operation is not a problem usually. I also have a VORNADO VH110 that works fine still to this day and is very quiet, heats the rooms well and doesn't product an odor. Sometimes VORNADO makes a good product. This is might not be it. Otherwise it seems like it could be a nice heater. Time will tell, but for 4 months of the year it might get use then stored or donated. Summary (5 Stars minus issues = 3 stars) 1. Very good little heater that works exceptionally well heating but might be too loud for some people. For me the sound was significant because the room I use it in is exceptionally and purposefully quiet. -1/2 star 2. Produces a strong "manufactured" smell (like a new car smell but not anywhere as nice) that seems to not go away permanently. A call to Vornado confirmed the smell is normal and part of a protective coating on the heating elements that "should" burn off in the first 45 minutes of use. This was not true in my case but I'm more sensitive to smells than most people so the smell was/is an issue that I hope with time will become less obvious. -1/2 star 3. I purchased this heater because of my past very positive experience with Vornado products. The two problems discussed in this review (smell and sound) were both not problems in a 2012 Vornado heater. I was disappointed. -1 Star. UPDATE--March 2021--The heater is running fine and was purchased Jan 2021. My 3 Stars review (above) is now 4 stars. Here's why. The plastic smell has largely vanished and is becoming less and less an issue (though it's still there, barely) to heat 1 room. This is a very solid, very stable, very strong little heater that is the baby brother to the Vornado Velocity 5. If the smell was the only issue, I'd give this heater 5 stars, however, the smell is still there many months after purchase, but much, MUCH reduced, so 4 stars. I'd give this heater 5 stars if sound was not an issue. What makes this heater nice is that it produces a lot of hot air and heats the room fast if you don't mind a little noise. Noise in a very quiet room is a problem though. The fan is powerful, and it spins fast because the blades are small, and that is why it is loud. If it had a larger fan it could spin slower and still deliver the same air flow and be much quieter as well but that might make the heater overall bigger (less portable) and more expensive. The discontinued VORNADO VH110 model is about the same size, heats the room just as quickly, but is SIGNIFICANTLY quieter. Partial VERDICT--If I could repurchase a VORNADO VH110 heater NEW, I would, in a heartbeat instead of the Vornado Velocity 3 model, specifically because it's two main issues (above) are still issues for me. Is the Vornado Velocity 3 model a good heater? Absolutely. It's a fantastic heater for the price and in most ownership instances it has no issues. A simple solution to the noise it makes would be to use the heater for 30 minutes to heat the room then turn it off for quiet and repeat as needed. This is a mild inconvenience that should earn it a 4-5 star rating for most people. The VORNADO VH110 would run for hours in the background quiet, quiet, quiet. Final score is 4 stars. And I will keep the heater, not return or donate it. It's really a good heater to be clear and in a pinch would be an ideal replacement for a older VORNADO VH110 model that stopped working. UPDATE--January 2022--FINAL VERDICT--3 stars. Here's why. The smell is largely gone but still present enough that I can detect it. It's not overpowering like it was when I bought it new so I can perhaps forgive the smell. However, the reason for the 3 stars is simply that I live in a quiet home. That's by design. Peace and quiet are the hallmarks of a proper home and this Vornado Velocity 3 is simply too loud. It starts off quiet but within a minute get up to MAXIMUM ROAR no matter the setting, not matter the thermostat. As I said before this is a great hear for a noise warehouse but after years of using it, I finally realize the ringing in my ears each winter it because of this CRAP heater. It's it safe? Yes. Is it powerful ? Mostly, is it good, I suppose. Will I keep it. Not a chance. I will be donating this heater to the Good Will. Perhaps they can find a use for it in their warehouse. ... show more

Vornado review 2/10/22 Consumer, not paid, just giving a good product and company it’s due. Well, I can’t make this short, but as informative and helpful as possible. I should be a rep. for these heaters, I love them. No other electric heater I’ve found (and ALOT of research) heats a space faster & easier. But I must first extend my gratitude for a company that still holds extra service, and stands fully behind their product. Their base is in the US, and relating in understandable English is so very helpful. Yes, like all else, the units are pretty much forced to be made in China, and there will be crap- but they take care of anything that isn’t up to standard. Wow. I had started a replacement customer service contact a long time ago with the manager Harold. He’s passed now, but I believe even the young reps know his legacy. Paula, Charles, Blanca & Alison.... all very kind and helpful. The product: Alot of people don’t get how they work at first. It’s a different technology than the usual heaters most are familiar with. Vornado’s have less initial heat that comes out, but the heat is more evenly circulated. It’s a little illusional at first... there’s no “warm pockets” around the heater, leaving the floor cold & the ceiling hot. With the Vornado, the whole room temp. consistently goes up more evenly. The velocity line they offer just amplifies all this. I just received a replacement velocity 5. (Small, digital temp, 3 heat settings and a fan mode-no remote) I set it as normal, forgot about it. But when I walked to the back of my 35’ RV bedroom....there was no temp difference. (It’s usually lower, even with the normal Vornado) Then I just noticed...the whole place was just warm and comfortable. Wow. That said, there’s many models to choose from, with some big trade offs. Its a little confusing (ESPECIALLY the numbers and letters for different models!!! Who’s brainiac model designer wanted to confuse the entire space heater world, and ALL your poor reps that deal with THAT every day!🤪😂) I cannot go into all the details. (Digital temp, dial temp, low high Med heat settings, variable temp speed, size, color (RED?!😃) But I decided on the Velocity 3R. (The round model) This thing BLASTS...and ROARS! I liked the 3 heat choices (1500 watts, 1200 watts, 750 watts) Depending on the circuit loads I have, I can choose, and all circulate well. However, 1500 sounds like a wind tunnel. Hard to fully get used to. The trick & UPSIDE, is to blast it first at 1500, then set it to Med or low, which both of those settings are quieter, but probably as much air as a normal Vornado? I also think the velocity 5 (close to the same as the 3R, but square) was quieter? It still blasted air, but maybe not as much? It also only had 2 heat settings, and it auto adjusted depending on the temp. I personally did not like that, but some will. I’d suggest reading up on them all, and when it gets too much, call them and they can help. Just have your model number!!!! Because even WITH it, you will STILL ALL be confused !!!! (I’m still dreaming #’s VMH 500, 3R, 5.... WXYZ12345 !!)
