Skeptic turned believer in this heater - it's the best of the lot

I got a TAVH10 (functionally equivalent but with an unnecessary remote control) for free as part of the Vine program. Candidly, I intended to debunk the silly overpriced device's claims and to save everyone else a lot of money. Their claim of some mysterious "vortex action" to circulate heat in some magical way throughout the room sounded like a bunch of marketing BS to this engineer's ears. Hot air is hot air and you move it with a fan and that's why all the space heaters I've ever had are 1/3 of the price of this thing, make a lot of noise, and blow a zone of hot air at you when you're close to the heater. So we plug it in in a couple hundred square foot office, ready to write my review on how you should stick with a $40 model instead... but then the damn thing works as advertised! It's very quiet (I thought it was defective at first) and then I start to notice the room is just nicely heating up. It made no sense. We've tested it now for a couple weeks and now I'm going to have to buy some more of these. I did a little more research and found this youtube video that explains a little better than their product posting what they mean by "vortex action" -- I guess I'd roughly translate it to using a long, quiet, but powerful oar stroke in the water vs. a frantic doggie paddle. The latter makes a lot more noise and causes a lot of action right at the point of contact, but the former quietly moves a lot more water a longer distance. Beyond that, the safety features are good, it looks better than your average heater, and stays cool to the touch. I bought a couple AVH10's for other rooms. The only difference appears to be the lack of a remote control and a $20 savings. The remote for the TAVH10 isn't very good (buttons get stuck and seriously, who needs a remote for a space heater anyway). So save the $20 and you're paying just 2.5x a typical space heater instead of 3x, but it's well worth it. ... show more

A good choice !

First let me say that I wanted a heater for my small bathroom...so my thoughts are based on that. Secondly, I did some research on Consumer Reports before coming to read Amazon reviews. CR recommended this model. Thirdly, I am laughably noise sensitive...so that too shades my comments. Last, I have had good luck with Vornado fans and we have about three of them that we use in the summer months. * I am happy with this heater! It a bit bigger than I had hoped to find, but it works well in the space anyway * It is quiet....not as quiet as I wish...but nothing really is and I think that this heater is about the quietest I have used. I am content with the minimal noise level. * it is relatively attractive. * it is very easy to use. It has a setting for low, high and fan. The thermostat seems to work quite well. I set it for 70, and 70 is what my analog, old school, thermometer, confirms. Whats more the heat level seems to remain very consistent. When I was researching small space heaters the information seemed a bit overwhelming, the reviews all over the place and very inconsistent in terms of star ratings and comments. Lets not even talk about the kinds of heaters too numerous to really compare. I was happy to have CR reports to refer to. The Amazon reviews of this heater might have deterred me, but l took a chance and went by CR’s choice (even their heater reviews were not very consistent or high). Thus far I am very happy with my choice. Time will tell. Vornado’s “in box” paperwork says they “will make things right” if an issue comes up. We’ll see about that too. Hopefully my luck with Vornado products will hold. Right now I am happy to walk into a consistently warm bathroom! It is far better than the last two very compact heaters we have gotten from Ace Hardware. They were so much noisier and the thermostats went “wonky” after a time. Sometimes the temperature would be right on, and then sometimes, without changing a thing, the thermostat went into overdrive and the room would be 10 degrees warmer. VERY EFFICIENT

This is 100% without a doubt the best space heater I've ever used and I will only buy this heater for as long as they make it. I've been searching for years to find a reliable heater that would heat my drafty 2 car garage during the winter and it works! The last heater I had was Duraflame brand and it sucked. It randomly malfunctioned this year and won't turn on so I bought this one after reading reviews online. The temperature of my garage can ben 40° F and it reaches my set temperature of 69° F within 10-20 minutes every single time. It's a very simple yet powerful design, not a lot to go wrong with this model. The interface is simple and not over-engineered and this thing is compact enough to fit on a shelf. The tip safety works without fail and it regulates the temperature intelligently. It heats up to 1-2 degrees warmer than what you set the temp. at and then turns itself to Low and eventually turns off after a few minutes. If the temperature drops 2 degrees below your set point, she's right back to High. You can feel the warm air hitting you at up to 10 feet away, so unlike every other complete waste of money I've tried, THIS HEATER ACTUALLY BLOWS HOT AIR AND IT BLOWS IT FAR. It's sad that it's a surprise when a company actually makes a product that operated as advertised but Vornado did an excellent job with this unit and I'll be a customer for life. Decent heater that failed. [Updated 2023]

[Updated information/Review] So i worked with Vornado on a return and they were relatively prompt in responding to me. It did take them a few days longer than I would have liked, but once the correspondence was going it was clear and straight forward. They have honored the 5 year warranty, which I am thrilled with and are shipping me a new replacement unit without any problems. I do want to say this definitely improved my opinion of them once the correspondence with the replacement was underway. I think their instructions were clear and their service dept was good. Based on this experience, I'd happily recommend them to others to consider. If the unit fails within the 5 year window, they are standing behind their products and you really can't ask much more than that. I'm changing the rating to a 4/5 as I think this accurately reflects the value I received. I would recommend them due to this experience in the future. ----------------------------- So we purchased this heater for a guest bedroom and it appeared to work for the first year or so without issue. It appears as of end of 2022, the unit has a failed fan on it now. It doesn't seem to heat any longer, which is good if the fan is no longer working properly, so the safety aspect is well implemented. However the fact I have 2 lasko heaters that have survived over 10 years without issues makes this heater seem very very cheap indeed. The Fan specifically appears to have failed and the unit does come with a 5-yr warranty according to Amazon's PDF details. I'm reaching out to the [email protected] team for assistance and we'll see how the RMA (or RA process as they say) works with them. I'm hopeful vornado will stand behind their product and provide a replacement/refurb unit if possible. Otherwise, I may look back to Lasko for something more robust. Its unfortunate too as this product comes highly recommended on many review sites, and it has really dinged my willingness to believe wirecutter or other sites. I think maybe Reddit is starting to look like a much more realistic review site where honest details are posted. Would be curious to know how others here on Amazon have found this purchase as it does rate quite highly and maybe I'm just the one who got a bad unit? ... show more

Excellent fans - I have 6 Vornado heaters

I bought into Vornado when my kids were babies. Probably about 4-5 years ago I bought two of the child proof ones and for our kids’ rooms, and we still use them in our their rooms today (they are 5 and 8 now). As gas prices have surged here in California, I bought 4 additional fans of this model with the thermostat for the other areas of our house - our master bedroom, living room, playroom, and front room. The fans are super quiet and pump out a lot of heat. We usually set them to 71 on high to keep our house cozy, and it’s still hundreds of dollars cheaper than gas. I saw some poor reviews so I wanted to share my experience. I haven’t had any issues with any of my 6 Vornado fans. Our power buttons work great. We run them all the time. The fire protection feature is solid. And if you have little ones, check out the childproof version - they work well (ours don’t have a thermostat - you just set the heat on a scale of 1-6 or something like that). My only complaint is they aren’t WiFi enabled, but I don’t see a lot of heaters with that feature (at least in this price range), I’m guessing for safety reasons. Overall great value for the price. The perfect heater for small room

I live in a small apartment and bought this for my bedroom as we have a central heating system and my two roommates love to sleep in the cold. I did A LOT of research and wanted a small/compact heater as my bedroom is tiny and does not have much space. As a college student I thought this was actually pricey (although many in the reviews say it is cheap). I LOVE THIS because it is not dangerous - I know others that have space heaters that if you accidentally touch, you may burn yourself. But this heater does not feel extremely hot which is nice! I have received a utility bill after starting to use this and the bill was actually lower than what it was before I started to use it which was shocking! (It was about $20 lower). I typically set it to 75 degrees and it will warm up the entire room in about 30 minutes. It is also VERY quiet - I do not even hear it when sleeping. I have mine on the floor in front of my TV and have never had any issues with it suddenly turning off if I accidentally walked into it. However if you do lift the heater, it will automatically shut off. It is only about 1 feet in height (very small) and also very lightweight. I would definitely recommend to anyone. The only downside is that sometimes I will set the temperature to 70 and will notice that the heater reads 75. Not sure why it heats the room to higher than what I put - but when it does, I will just slightly lower the temp. Also wish this came with a remote (but can’t have everything, right!) All in all - would DEFINITELY recommend. ... show more

Terrific small heater, keeps you toasty warm!

It’s hard to believe that such a small heater can do such a great job of heating a larger room but it does! I read the reviews online and on Amazon and they were very positive. The reviews are accurate. It is small but mighty. It is light enough to easily carry it to another room and it can be set to the temperature that you want to have. I have found that it maintains that set temperature without any issues. One caveat, a safety measure built in to the heater is that if you lift it or carry it and set it back down, it has an automatic shutoff and must be turned back on again. I believe that if you have animals or small children it is a great addition and it is so simple to press a button and turn it back on again. I think that it is terrific and very worth the cost. I have not seen my electric bill increase, even using it every day. I have not turned on my whole-house heating since I bought this small but mighty heater! ... show more

Working great so far - not bad for Amazon Warehouse

It's reasonably quiet especially on the low speed setting. Heat output is good. The case doesn't get hot. I'm using it in a finished (insulated) basement room of 280 sq ft that has a pair of crappy single-pane aluminum framed egress windows. On high-speed setting the Vornado will get the room up to temp (72) within 30 minutes. I turn it to low speed to keep it at temp. When it arrived I ran it in the garage for a day to outgas, but even before that I didn't detect any obnoxious "toxic plastic" odors. Perhaps the first owner did the outgassing for me. I like the feature where when I shut it off it runs on fan-only mode for 8 seconds to cool down the heating element. Very smart, Vornado. The only feature I wish it had was the ability to run when plugged into a timer. As it is, when the power is interrupted it doesn't turn back on to it's previous setting. It's really a minor nit for me. Happy camper at this point. - - - - - - - - - - - - Update 22-Dec-2022 - - - - - - - - - - - - The Vornado died this morning. The display and buttons still worked, but the fan wouldn't run and, obviously, it wouldn't heat up. I tried the usual "reset" stuff. Still no-go. Thinking it was in some kind of thermal-overload condition, I parked it in front of a fan and cooled it for 20 minutes. Nada. Zip. Nil. The empty set. At this point I'm thinking "doornail", as in "dead as a....". A couple hours later I started the Amazon "return" process on it and, on a whim, plugged it in. Lo and behold , It's!!! Alive !!!! (insert Gene Wilder wearing goggles pic) So. Either it takes a couple hrs to recover from a thermal overload ..... or (queue scary music) it's surreptitiously connected to Amazon and, when I initiated the "return" process, it got a "reawaken" packet from the mothership. Bottom line: still running. Still happy. Except for the 10 below weather and frozen water pipe, neither of which I can blame on Vornado or Amazon. ... show more
