Keeps the air moving in large living room/dining area, so don't need to have the ac on quite as much. Certainly can hear it on the highest setting, but it's a fan (not a jackhammer) sound. Setting it on the floor in the corner and keeping it on the lowest ("gentle breeze") setting throughout the day works for me. I use a fan in my bedroom for two reasons. I like to circulate the air and I need ambient noise to sleep. I was reticent to get such a small fan because I’ve always used large oscillating fans. I’ve had this for most of a month and I am very pleased to say I’ll not be going back. Regarding air movement; unlike my oscillating fan I don’t point this directly at me but pointed upward to circulate the air, which is apparently what these are made for. I’ve tried placing this on the ground and on a chest of drawers and in both cases really enjoyed how well it works. Instead of a constant stream of air blowing directly on me, this creates almost an ambient breeze effect. Pointed at the ceiling, I feel air gently wafting past me, almost like I’m by a lake or ocean and the breeze is blowing. I’ve also noticed this has helped to distribute heated air around my bedroom more evenly. As for the sound effect, it’s really the best of both worlds. The low and medium settings are extremely quiet. This is great for daytime if you need to hear others talking or just don’t want a loud fan going in your room during waking or sleeping hours. At night I put this on high. I get a medium level white noise effect from it. It’s similar to having a small sound machine in the corner. I would say it’s comparable to a window ac unit on medium. If you need extremely loud white or ambient noise to sleep, this isn’t for you. However for most people that want a moderate level, this is perfect and the fan aspect is excellent. I have had this fan for only a few hours. Super easy to assemble and I replaced this with a fan (much larger) that I could barely feel on its highest level. I have this Vornado on 2 and I can feel it in my living room, dining room and kitchen. Yes open concept but not a small area. My house feels so much cooler. A great purchase. I’m very happy I bought this. Level 3 is a bit loud but if needed - well worth it. ... show more

I have used Vornado fans for many years. They have been well made and work as advertised, however, I was disappointed by my latest purchase. It functions as expected but it is made of much cheaper plastic than in the past. I'm concerned that it won't hold up as long as previous fans.

I have been a loyal customer of Vornado for over 25 years and have never had a single complaint. These fans are long lasting, powerful, quiet, and easy to take apart and clean. I don't think I will ever buy a fan from any one else but Vornado. Definitely a great product and worth the money

I had my fan for 2 years now I love it. It works better at cooling rooms at night during the day I suggest keeping it close if you want to stay cool also it's pretty easy to clean you can open the front and wipe it down (I don't I found its easier to spray it down in a bucket using my shower head Mines actually holds up pretty well in water that's how I've been cleaning it for the last 2yrs just make sure it's off first and you don't wet the plug) ... show more

    • Not Quite as Good as the One It's Replacing

25 years ago I bought my first Vornado and I loved it. Well, that little guy finally gave up the ghost and I was in need of another fan, so I opted for another Vornado. The first thing I noticed was that it was lighter than my previous unit even though they were the same size, and I realized right away that the plastic casing wasn't of the same quality. The old one was solid plastic with no give; this one is a softer plastic and gives under pressure (as in when adjusting the angle of the fan). The sound is about the same, maybe a little quieter. But I noticed the BIGGEST difference when I went to adjust the angle of the fan. Right away the blade started rubbing against the casing. With the older unit, I was able to adjust the angle while the fan was still on. This one, obviously, is going to have to be powered off before adjusting the angle, which might prove to be annoying before too long. I don't see this one lasting me another 25 years, but who knows. It might surprise me. But with the cheaper materials being used, I would think twice before buying another Vornado. ... show more
